@kat81, I couldn't agree more about the screens in cars. I do plan to limit screen time, so having it in the car goes against everything I want to do. I'm not going to be totally anti-sceen - it just doesn't need to be in the car. I don't really like tablets for kids either, but that's because I know too many people that will let a tablet babysit for hours. There's a time and a place for them, but some people abuse it.
@SWE2, I love mint chocolate chip ice cream! It was even my favorite as a kid, which seems like a weird kid choice. Coffee ice cream ties it for favorite now.

This may be totally opposite of my "anti screen time in the car" comment above, but I have no shame in pulling the iPad out if we are at a restaurant. We have dinner with our kids every night at home but sometimes I just need 10 minutes to have a conversation over dinner with my husband.

UO: This is not a jab at anyone here, but a reflection on my pre-kid self. I was a perfect parent before I had kids. And, as it turns out, I can perfectly parent kids that are older than mine. For instance, I remember judging my niece and nephews' screen time. I still do because they all watch waaayyy to much tv. But I've come to learn that every time I make an internal judgment on that, or any other topic, it becomes a different story when I hit that age. DD didn't have a ton of pre-2yo screen time. She gets more now but we still limit it. But she still has the theme songs to her favorite shows memorized, she watches a small amount of tv every day, and, so long as she eats her dinner w/o zoning out, she gets some screen time occasionally at non-fast casual restaurant and on any road trip lasting more than an hour. Oh, and she owns her own tablet. She rarely plays with it around the house and it's mostly reserved for time on trips or restaurants.
I was also a perfect parent when it came to food. And as it turns out, my kid loves hot dogs and doughnuts like everyone else. Also, see sleep. She didn't sleep well for the first 2 1/2 yrs of her life and it wasn't for a lack of trying on our part.

So much this. This morning DD woke up earlier than acceptable and I handed her the iPad and laid back down. Judge away.
Also it's so hard to know what else is going on in people's lives. My DH was deployed when DD was 3months - 16 months. There were times I handed her my phone/iPad whatever just to get through a grocery shopping trip. Because it was just us, and there were days I was totally losing the parenting battle. DD has been across the country over 8 times at 2.5 and she has her own iPad, which has saved my sanity during some of those trips.
I respect whatever your boundaries are for your children, but be careful to judge others. At the end we are all just trying to make it out alive with happy healthy kids.
@hp_momma@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot@bacorrea I know what you mean. Sometimes you just need a few minutes to keep them distracted and the screens can do that! Plus in fairness there are a ton of educational apps that can help them learn. Nothing get a me going faster than a stranger putting on their Judgey Pants though. We have a Kindle for DS. He gets it occasionally but it's by no means an every day thing. Once, he and I both got strep and DH was out of town. I went to Walgreens to pick up our RXand a couple of other essentials. Since he was flipping misrerable I brought the Kindle with us. Some complete stranger stopped me in my tracks to tell me how DS was too young for the Kindle and shouldn't have it. My response was less than lady like.
