Gemma

I've already made a post here asking for help with girl names of Greek origin which is what DH and I had been discussing this entire pregnancy. Your feedback was so helpful! A few days ago, out of nowhere, DH mentioned the name Gemma and I cannot get it out of my head. I think I've fallen in love with the name. The only thing that is holding me back is that my FIL is called Jim and we see him very frequently. He could either see it as we are choosing to honor him, or it could just become confusing, or both! Would you use the name you love anyway or choose another name?

I adore Gemma, and I would probably use it anyway.

I love love love Gemma. I wouldn't question it with a Jim in the family nor would I think it was honoring really. If you would be totally against that thought to some I would avoid but otherwise no reason not to use such an awesome name

It wouldn't bother me at all if people thought we were honoring him. I think he's a great man. I even suggested we tell him it's a nod to him so that he'd be less likely to be annoyed if there is confusion regarding if someone is talking to him or the baby. He has a little trouble hearing and the names are so similar sounding.

i don't think they are too close. plus, I'm sure the conversations aimed at Jim will be much different than the context of baby gemma's interactions so it shouldn't be too confusing

Love  this name! My husband won't let us use it because it reminds him of the character on Sons of Anarchy ha ha. We were big fans of that show. But otherwise it is a gorgeous name and I would go for it !

Love Gemma! I don't think it sounds similar to Jim at all, plus it's two syllables while Jim is just one. Unless you call her "Gem", you are probably good.

I love it so much. I wouldn't worry about grandpa Jim, unless you were to despise him, and it does not appear to be that kind of conversation. Gemma is beautiful.

Gemma is on our list right now.  We brought up the idea of Sons of anarchy as well but to be honest not too worried about it.
