I absolutely HATE the generalizations and blame that our generation gets. Don't like that we are needy and need praise all the time? Well you guys are the ones that introduced participation trophies. You don't like that we have to live at home after college? Well your generation is the one that told us we all had to go and then jacked up the price of tuition 15 fold and then also crashed the economy right as we got into the work-force. Don't like how we don't know how to do basic house-hold tasks? Well, did you teach us?
Yeah, I didn't mean it to be belittling of millennialsat all. I am a millennial as well by some definitions, but the official definition is all over the place. I totally agree with @kiwi2628 about the generation is the way it is because of the generation before. I also have been working since 14 and have parents who didn't finish high school, so I wish I had more guidance in some areas. I think the financial part of it is great and wish I had more of that, but things like how to change a smoke detector class or fold a shirt correctly? I guess I just feel like Google it. One interesting thing I have seen between my sister and I is that she will call me and ask me how to do something, when my reaction is always, well did you google it (I'm 28 and she is 20 for reference) and she goes oh yeah I guess I could have done that. She is smarter than I am on many a level so it's just interesting to see the different way we go about problem solving.
bagowater Just wanted to note, that while I am a millennial (only in age, not really in habits), my parents are actually Gen X-ers, not baby boomers They were both young and had me at 18 and 19.
@dragonfly87 yeah it does span a wide range. It's the generation that grew up with the tech boom, *generally* the children of the baby boomers. I think it said born in early 80s all the way to early 00s. Technically, a millennial could have their own millennial children also.

*I'm gonna throw a TW on this rant because I'm just heated and am going to sound insensitive* So H was all mad last night because his sister was asking when we are having kids (which she does constantly) and told him we are getting older, so we better hurry. I am so. pissed. I'm sorry that I didn't have 3 children with 2 fathers that were all unplanned, before the age of 25. I guess according to her, that was the right way to go in life?! She does not know about our loss or that we are trying or anything, but I have alluded to her in the past not to ask him about it because it bothers him. He has told her multiple times to stop asking. And yet,she doesn't keep her mouth shut. I want so badly just to be like, "oh we should just have a baby? Oh well guess what, we had one but we lost it. And now we're both facing infertility and have no idea what it's going to take to get you your niece or nephew, but sure, please keep pestering us and insulting us and calling us old. That's very helpful."
@hartmich I'm sorry your SIL is being so insensitive! My sister also has 3 kids with 2 different fathers, all unplanned. And she just got off assistance for the first time in like 10+ years a few months ago. Some people just don't understand how difficult this process really is and I'm so sorry for everything that you're going through right now and that you have to deal with people like that on top of it!

As a millennial and a high school teacher, I really feel like those adulting problems will probably only get much worse as time progresses. My mom talked to me about the importance of building credit as an older high schooler and reminded us constantly that "you shouldn't buy what you can't pay for" in regards to credit cards -- I'm grateful for the lesson, but it wasn't always so easy to avoid using credit when there were emergencies (like new tires, car repairs) and I was in college, so I did have some debt that took too long to pay off (but we'll be all done in April - WOOT!)
Most of the kids I teach are 15-16 and while most of them are lovely human beings, their parents go to bat for them to a point that I think it's detrimental. Parents email or call me when their kids are stuck on a homework question or feel a grade is unfair -- kids are not learning to advocate for themselves and parents create such a sense of entitlement sometimes. I worry about how many of them will fare in college and beyond, because even though I am lucky that mother prepared me fairly well in the life-isn't-always-fair and financial literacy aspects of being a grown-up, I still struggle sometimes. Adulting really IS difficult sometimes, especially when life gets heavy and the responsibilities increase as grandparents and parents age.
Just my two-cents.I hope this next generation proves me wrong but I really do worry!

I finally finished the original Gilmore Girls last night (still haven't watched the new episodes yet). I'm going to put my thoughts in a spoiler box in case anyone is watching and I don't want to spoil it for them!
I really really enjoyed the show overall. I was (of course) annoyed by the obvious fertility of nearly every character on the show. That is one of the reasons that everyone thinks it's so easy to get KU because the media portrays it like that! And, quite honestly, Sookie kind of annoyed me at times too. And of course, I got all teary-eyed at the very end of the finale when Lorelai and Rory drive up and see everyone waiting for them. And then again when Richard is telling Lorelai how proud of her he is. I'm glad I finally decided to watch it and will have to block off time to watch the 4 new episodes now.

@lulu1180 I just finished GG, too! Except I did watch the new season as well... which in all honesty, I did not really like at all. It was just weird. I did spoil it for myself so maybe that's why, but I just didn't think it was very well done. I like the original seasons so much more! Although, I hate hate HATE Rory Gilmore. She might be the most annoying person (character) on the freaking planet.
@hartmichI followed GG when it came out in my middle school/high school years and at the time loved Rory (though I only watched the first four seasons at that time). I was in the journalism track at my school and young and thought she was great. When I rewatched the series as an adult I couldn't stand her. She acts so entitled throughout the later half of the show and is a terrible friend to boot. Everyone's in the show treats her like a SS that can do no wrong. I think the character flaws make the show more relatable but still I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in that feeling. Also I'm sorry about your SIL being such a TW.
@lulu1180 I'm glad you liked the series! The banter makes it a really easy show for me to go back and re-watch when bored. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the reunion when you get to seeing it.
@Tennis11785 i'm in about the same spot w/GG. @lulu1180 i appreciate the spoiler box as well...even though I opened and read it anyway...
@hartmich ugh. your SIL sounds like the worst. If it's a one off thing ok, but to constantly ask... I love how people think they can just say whatever they want. would you ask when my next AF is? no, so why do people think it is okay to ask when you're having kids

Ok, I need some suggest ladies. My $50 boots from Payless aren't cutting it anymore. They have lasted about two years and I love the style, but they are falling apart.
I think I am ready to finally upgrade and buy a good quality pair of boots. Normally I am a cheapskate on clothing, but I need comfortable shoes (foot issues) and I am tired of things that don't last.
Does anyone have suggestion for a good brand/or specific type of boots to purchase? Kind of like riding boots style:
@hartmich, in so sorry you're SIL is being so insensitive. It's risky not her place (or anyone's) to say those things to you.
@dragonfly87, I'll preface my suggestion by saying I have extremely narrow calves, but I have found some decently priced, real leather boots by Nine West, Bandolino, and Franco Sarto. I also love the riding boot style!
Me: 30 | DH: 31 Met: August 2006 Married: July 2012 TTC #1 since June 2016
@dragonfly87 I personally like Aldo. I also like going to stores like Marshalls or TJ Maxx or Century 21 to look for designer boots on discount. Riding boots are a life saver during fall/winter for work.

@hartmich The ones who get pregnant easily will never understand the struggle. They don't see anything wrong with asking about other peoples' plans to have kids because they can't fathom it would be a sensitive subject. To them, the only reason you aren't pregnant yet is because you haven't started trying yet. Hopefully she'll stop on her own, but in the meantime your inner strength will keep you from throat punching her when she opens her stupid mouth. Hugs.

@dragonfly87 I agree with heatherdubrow about Frye boots. In terms of quality they are absolutely the best but they are very expensive and I typically like a boot that's a tad bit more soft and feminine looking then the style Frye has. My friends who own them are obsessed though. I would also highly recommend looking at stores like Nordstrom Rack or Saks off 5th because you can find amazing deals!
@dragonfly87 I really Frye boots. they're amazing and soo comfortable. But if you have wider calves, consider White Mountain boots too. I have them and they are super cute!
@hartmich WTF to your SIL. So sorry you had to deal with that, how absurd. @lulu1180 I LOVE Gilmore Girls, it's one of my favorite shows and I wanted to be Rory Gilmore for a long time.
But, I agree with @hartmich that the 4 new episodes were disappointing - excited to hear your thoughts on them! I also totally agree with Rory being the worst towards the end of the show and then in the revival I just couldn't stand her. Like, grow up, what are you even doing.
ETA: @dragonfly87 I got Ralph Lauren riding boots that I love from DSW. I tend to spend between $100-$150 on riding boots. I wear them all the time and with that price point they tend to last three or so years. I literally wear them into the ground. Like my last pair had to be thrown out because I realized my socks were touching the actual ground under me.
@dragonfly87 I have a pair of brown riding boots that I need to replace as well! I absolutely loved them, and you can certainly tell. I wore them when we walked over 13 miles one day in Barcelona. Anyway, I think they are Nine West and the black pair I have are Ralph Lauren.
Me: 31 DH: 32 Dating since: 11/17/2001 Married: 9/26/2009 TTC: June 2016
@dragonfly87 - Another vote for Ralph Lauren. They are the most comfortable riding boots I've tried so far, so they are worth the increased price point to me. I wear them all the time and so the cost per wear has got to be less than a penny. I've also heard of people getting the soles replaced when you wear through them, so that was my plan when I bought them. Then I spilled salad dressing on them and got a huge grease slick down the front. I was devastated. I jumped on DSW last week and bought the very last pair in my size.

@dragonfly87 Two of my favorite shoe brands are Sam Edelman and Steve Madden. I do love my pair of Frye boots, but my mom bought them for me back before I had to buy things for myself, so I wouldn't be able to spend that much now. I recently ordered a pair of Born boots that were 40% off and they were SO COMFY but my normal size was too small and the size up was too big (and no half sizes). If you can find some Born riding boots on sale, I'd totally recommend them! @DuchessOfCambridge That Tweet is perfection. @JJMNO1616 Hahaha, that's amazing!
