TMI Tuesday 2/21

Re: TMI Tuesday 2/21

  • My vag area is so swollen it looks like I pumped a liter of fluid into it.
Second this. Along with a rearing libido, this is getting rough.
  • Though I have been feeling this way ALL pregnancy, I haven't posted it into TMI Tuesday because I just never got the chance and the thread always got long and whatever.

Anyhow, here is my TMI from all pregnancy -- I have a TON of discharge. And it smells. Not like infection smells, just kinda gross smells. I have THINX underwear which I had thought might be good for this but that makes it smell SO much worse, even if it does contain the liquid. The grossest part is that because I don't shave down there, sometimes it gets crusted up with my hair.

I find myself wishing I had a bidet at home and at work (I have neither--do we ever in America?) because really the only thing that works is to wash myself off. I don't want to constantly take showers, though, because it dries my skin out and I don't have time. The midwife said no to deodorized pads/pantiliners (I hadn't tried them yet but was curious if that was a good idea.)

Anyone else with this issue? Any solutions you like?

By the way now that I typed it out I feel like I maybe did ask this once before so forgive me...I still need help, haha.

  • No TMI for me so far. :) Thankfully everything is normal except for swollen ankles that just won't go away and greasy 2nd day hair that my dry shampoo won't tame.
  • @kat81 What about using wipes? Like these or these. The discharge is real, for sure. I find Always Dailies are a lifesaver.

@kat81 I feel your pain! Sorry, I haven't found a solution. I feel like every where I go people can smell me too. Super self conscious

@jayandaplus I will try that thanks!

I should bring some to work; thanks for the suggestion. I do use wipes at home; we have them ostensibly for the kids when they poop. It's still a bit much for the wipes to tame. Washing is the only thing that REALLY does the trick.

  • @kat81 count me in the discharge club!! And I've never been a daily shower taker unless I get sweaty etc because I have the worlds driest skin! I'm actually on the verge of asking my doc to test me for BV but I've had that 100 times and I'm pretty confident this is just normal (?) discharge. Except it's kinda snot-colored sometimes! Ew that grossed even me out.
  • I am in the same boat @kat81 Showering is the only real cure, but frequently changed panty liners and wipes are my go to. I generally just feel gross down there.

My TMI is that I had/have (wishful thinking) a cold with a violent cough and peed (small amount, but too much for my liner to contain) through so many pair of underwear and pants over the weekend that I finally gave up changing them because I was nearly out of underwear after 1.5 days. I now am carrying spare underwear in my purse.
Yes this happened to me as well when I had a cold. When I'm about to sneeze or cough I brace myself and tighten my kegels as much as possible before doing it. It helps for sure, but when you're sick sometimes the coughs and sneezes come without any warning.

  • I highly recommend asking your OB about BV or a yeast infection.  I just finished medication for several bouts of both and things are soooooo much better down south.

  • I'm loving not being constipated for the first time in months. I feel like humming when im on the toilet
  • +1 to swollen vag. I used a mirror and clippers to tame the wildness and I was shocked to see just how swollen it is. Yet, my libido is still going strong.

  • I have been so sweaty the past couple weeks. It doesn't seem to matter what I wear, I sweat and I'm warm and my face looks flushed. Is this the pregnancy "glow" they talk about?
  • Gas and swollen vag here along with discharge. I use preparation h for women wipes occasionally during the day for comfort
  • Add me to the gassy wishing they could poop group! Also my nipples have been so itchy, I'm praying no one walks into my office and sees me with my hand down my shirt itching like crazy!

  • Add me to the list of swollen lady business. It's odd to me. And the smelly discharge. also today I'm having so many Braxton hicks and cramping. I moved my appt from Thursday to tomorrow because I'm just so paranoid. I'm so scared of him coming early.

  • Add me to the gas list and peeing when sneezing.
I peed myself twice at work Thursday morning which was quite unpleasant.
My gas isn't smelly just like straight air, super uncomfortable if I don't let it out though.
  • I'm definitely in the gassy group, too. Sometimes just walking it squeaks out, which is awesome. My boobs are absolutely killing me, and poor DH is in the lonely hearts club because my libido is non existent. I feel like I should take one for the team....burn  really don't want to.

I just want to second this! It's not BV or a yeast infection, but the amount of discharge is making everything SO itchy! I don't remember it being this bad last time! Plus it's summer here so the added sweat only makes things 10x worse, the only solution I have found is multiple showers and even then everything gets so dry and itchy from being dry! I tried an antiseptic diaper rash cream to combat the dryness after the shower but that just added to the discharge later!

@kat81 I don't have a crazy amount of discharge but I was thinking about how you said washing is the only way to help and wish you had a bidet...what if you hooked up one of those sprayers that people use for cloth diapering to your toilet? It would be like a make shift bidet! Just a thought :)

Boobs and nipples are sore and I don't have much of a libido...poor H...except not poor H when he messes with them and pinches! Not really hard but it's unexpected so I say "ouch" then I get the response on the line sir I'm. It sure you'll be able to breastfeed...not exactly like that but it's there and I got mad the other night about it. I know it's going to hurt but pretty sure I'll be expecting it and no I don't need a constant reminder that my nipples are sensitive and not sure how it's going to go breastfeeding lol Sorry that's probably more of a rant thread or something mixed in with TMI!

What is BV? I'm sure it's not a yeast infection. I've had those before and this is completely different. Doesn't smell like that, and more importantly doesn't feel bad in terms of being itchy or uncomfortable. Also I do remember discharge like this with the other pregnancies, but it does seem like more this time.

You might have seen this since you have THINX, but did you know they make a bidet that attaches to any existing toilet? Might be worth it!
  • @BabyMC517 count me in for sensitive nipples. I have to constantly wear a bra or tank top otherwise they hurt so bad. DH has been warned they are off limits.

I also have woken up with a stuffy nose the last few mornings and each time I blow my nose I get a nose bleed.
  • @kat81 I'm assuming BV is bacterial vaginosis. I had my OB check for this last time I was in.
  • @kat81 it is bacterial vaginosis. The main indicators you could tell at home are white milky discharge and a fishy odor. Your doc can look at some of your discharge under a microscope and get a more definitive diagnosis. It's essentially an imbalance of the natural bacteria in your vagina. If it's positive it's a short course of antibiotics and preventative is probiotics/yogurt with live culture, keeping the area clean and dry (hah! To that right now) and avoiding soaps down there. The best way to clean is water only - it's a self cleaning oven down there. Any kind of antibacterial soap or anything that might irritate your skin (fragrance etc) can throw your bacteria and/or pH off and cause BV.
Not saying you have it - I'm not convinced I do either. But worth checking with your doc the next time you're there!

Thanks. I will have them check. I just read about it as well as regular vaginal mucus during pregnancy (called leukorrhea I guess) and I think it's probably just leukorrhea. But I'll have them check.

Well said @ShadeofGreen816. Say, are you a nurse? ;-)
  • edited February 2017
Yes to what @ShadeofGreen816 said. I had two bouts of BV this pregnancy. Things were smelly and dischargy. And if I skipped a shower one day? Oy. The meds from the 2nd round of BV created an imbalance that then caused a yeast infection. So that was fun. Now that everything is cleared up, I hardly have any discharge and no smell. It's freakin' fantastic.

That's great that you got it all figured out. But yeah, I do NOT like taking antibiotics unless I KNOW I need them because they do have real side effects, namely things like yeast infections. I'll still have them check out BV but my best guess is that this is just the normal pregnancy increase. We'll see.

  • I hear ya on antibiotics. And, honestly, the yeast might have been there before. The itchiness started with BV but didn't go away until the yeast was cleared up. Also, BV can lead to preterm labor. So fx it's not that or that it's at least easily treatable.

  • Swollen vag club here! Nice to know I'm not the only one... I even asked the hubs the other day and he acted like it was nothing so who knows. Scratchy boobs here too!! I'm always so paranoid someone will see me with my hand down my shirt!! And I'm pretty sure my pelvis/vag bones are trying to escape my body because it's been killing me lately!! Oh, and I have to cross my legs when I sneeze or for sure will wet my pants.
  • @emilyalso I'm glad it's not just me...I seriously try to have the clearest pee every time because it gives me some sort of weird satisfaction lol
