Re: PAIF Check-in Week of 2/20

  • 1. How far along are you? 25 weeks, 2 days

    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? Carpal tunnel that is keeping me awake at night. I honestly haven't been able to sleep much in the last week and it is getting old. My OB said there isn't much I can do about it, unfortunately :(

    3. When is your next appointment? Not until March 16 when I do the GCT. Hoping it won't be as bad as people say and I pass with flying colors.

    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: Is anyone else experiencing painful carpal tunnel at night? I know there isn't much that can be done, but I have yet to find a sleeping position that doesn't completely aggravate it :(

QOTW: Will you be having a baby shower? If so, what are the plans? Our shower is in less than 3 weeks, and I'm getting pretty excited! It's a co-ed shower and we aren't doing traditional shower games. It's going to be a dinner/cocktail party with our friends/family and then we'll open gifts. Sort of like Christmas/Hanukah but with baby gifts, lol. Our moms are hosting the shower but we are helping with the design/decor, so over the weekend we ordered a 2 tier cake for the event. It's so cute!

  • 1. How far along are you?  23 weeks

    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? swelling in my feet at night and some sciatic pain. DH and I have been walking a lot lately (due to this strangely warm northeast weather) and I've only gained 2lbs the last 2 weeks but I'm nervous that the swelling is so noticeable so early.

    3. When is your next appointment?  March 6th for a regular OB

    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: my mom and sister has been bugging me to name the baby already and it's driving me nuts!!  My mom doesn't want to print shower invitations without a baby name and I keep reminding her it is not necessary to have that decided before the baby arrives. DH and I semi-agreed on naming him as a junior but with DHs name being Justin, that leaves little room for distinction between the two. DH and stepson have taken to calling him "JJ" (for Justin jr.) but something about that just strikes my ear wrong and really irritates me so I'm hesitant to go with it. And other alternatives (like changing the middle name) I feel defeat the purpose of having a junior. Idk...we will figure it out eventually but those two need to calm down. Rant over.

QOTW: Will you be having a baby shower? If so, what are the plans? my mom and sister are planning a shower for the last weekend in April which also falls by my 30th birthday on May 1st. So the plan is shower in the afternoon, birthday party at night. It will be a busy day but I think it'll be nice to have all of our friends and family in one place. I didn't want to be surprised (because I'd show up in sweatpants and no make up) but other than knowing the date and place I've been hands off with planning.
  • 1. How far along are you?  - Expecting mother is 23+6.  Tomorrow is viability!
    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? - She's said there's been a lot more movement lately and she's gaining weight.
    3. When is your next appointment? - Appointment on Wednesday!
    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: - None, really

QOTW: Will you be having a baby shower? If so, what are the plans? - Two good friends asked to throw me a shower, and asked for a list of attendees and dates.  Haven't heard anything beyond that.  If it happens, it'll be pretty low key...more like food, drinks, and hanging out...no games or anything.  I was initially weary of having a shower, since I'm not actually pregnant, but they seemed so eager.  I'm excited about it and hope it happens, but if it doesn't, that's ok too.

  • 1. How far along are you?
    23 weeks
    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week?
Same hip pain at night, a little minor carpal tunnel during the day, indigestion.
    3. When is your next appointment?
    Friday, OB consult for VBAC
    4. Rants/Raves/Questions:
I'm so sick of winter here in the northeast.  I want spring!
QOTW: Will you be having a baby shower? If so, what are the plans?
No.  I'm a STM so I'm not expecting anything.  Honestly I think my mom didn't even want to host the one she threw me for DD.

  • 1. How far along are you? 22 Weeks
    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? I got large like over night. I also am uncomfortable. Just feeling pressure and lack of room in my stomach. Tons of movement from both babies. I also have started swelling. My feet look like sausages after walking around yesterday. .
    3. When is your next appointment? Thursday. At my 20 week scan they couldn't get all the measurements because one baby was covering the other.
    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: All i need is one good night sleep. I have been so uncomfortable all night rolling around.

QOTW: Will you be having a baby shower? If so, what are the plans? Yes my mom is throwing us a big shower on March 25th. Its over 150 people. She is insane plus we have a very large family and friend circle. Its a twinkle twinkle little star theme.
  • @kmd0501 You are absolutely right, you do NOT need to name your baby before the baby is born! So many people want to actually see and hold their baby before deciding on a name, and since this is your baby, you have every right to do it any way you see fit. Good luck with dealing with your mom and sister!

@krex I'm so glad you'll be having a shower! I don't think it matters one bit that you aren't the one who is pregnant. You are still having a baby so you should get the same treatment! (And I'm glad your friends see it that way)! Also I hope the EM makes her appointment this time!

@LOTON01 Wow, that is certainly a huge shower! That's amazing. You should get so many amazing things! Are you registering? With that many people attending I think I would be extremely careful with the registry to make sure I ended up with stuff I really needed!

  • @wifeinraleigh28  It is huge but it is about the same as our wedding shower. We did register at buybuybaby and pottery barn kids. To make things even more complicated we live out of state so we will have to get everything back. We are extremely lucky that we have very generous friends and family. Our registries aren't to big in fact everyone keeps telling me to add more stuff but I would be okay with giftcards or other things. The sex isn't a secret but also isnt common knowledge.

@LOTON01 PBK is one of my absolute favorite baby stores! We bought an elephant rocker, area rug, and chandelier from there for our baby's room. I would've bought all our bedding from there too but they were seriously low on stock a few weeks ago when we went to check them out. I think they have since gotten in more inventory but alas, we found stuff elsewhere. Also, you mentioned that the sex isn't a secret... does that mean you know what you're having?? ;)

  • @wifeinraleigh28 Yes we are having two girls. We didn't hide that fact on the registry but also didn't tell everyone its two girls. If people figure it out great and if not we will tell them at the shower.
  • @LOTON01 That's amazing!! Congrats!!!

    1. How far along are you?  23w5d
    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? Holy heartburn!
    3. When is your next appointment?  I just had 2 last week (IUGR check and prenatal) and now won't have another for a month.  The update is that my cyst is gone, the baby is doing great and no signs of IUGR at this point.
    4. Rants/Raves/Questions:  So excited to be nearing viability!  This LO was already 1lb 6oz a week ago at the IUGR scan so I'm starting to feel a touch more relaxed.  Hopefully this kiddo will flip around soon and continue growing.

QOTW: Will you be having a baby shower? If so, what are the plans?  No as this is my 3rd.  With my 1st my folks threw a surprise co-ed shower which was amazing!  I was actually just looking back at those pics the other night.  What wonderful memories!
  • @Elyse1384 Glad everything looks good with the baby and that your cyst is gone! Must be such a relief. At 1lb 6oz last week you are already at viability anyway :)

  • Has anyone else started with crazy swelling in their feet?  I noticed how insanely large my left ankle was over my right last night at work and when I measured there was a 1.5cm difference!!  I'm heading to the doctor tomorrow to check on it but wondering if anyone else is starting with swelling this early. I'll update tomorrow.
  • @kmd0501 I started having swelling on Sunday :( I am planning on asking my doc about it tomorrow.
  • @kmd0501 I'm sorry about the swelling, but I've heard this is very common. Hopefully your doc can reassure you of that! I haven't noticed any swelling yet, but I'm sure it's just around the corner for me. I tend to experience every single pregnancy symptom at one point or another! Let us know about your appointment tomorrow.

  • I have some swelling but I usually wear compression socks all day which keeps it to a minimum.  Last pregnancy I was sooooo swollen so I knew I would be prone to it this time as well.  I ordered these and they are really great:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00S1VBULS/ref=twister_B00PUYETTY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I don't know if it was a fluke or not but they sent me 6 pairs!  So that's less than $2 a pair.

  • Thanks ladies. The doctor said it was totally normal, although the size my ankle got to was extremely impressive for only 23 weeks. She recommender compression stockings for work and lots of fluids, walking and elevation. Sounds good to me!  BP and weight were both fine.  She also said that it will only get worse and she (sarcastically) cant wait to see what I look like in the 3rd trimester humidity. Sooo.....looks like I better get used to kankles and compression stockings.
  • @kmd0501 I think we're all in for it when we get to 3rd trimester... I'm already feeling very big, stretched out, tight, and uncomfortable. I know it will only get worse!

    Bring it! :)

  • 1. How far along are you? 24w 3d
    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? Sinus infection
    3. When is your next appointment?  in two weeks
    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: I gained too much weight, have swelling, and dropped sugar in my urine plus there's a big likelihood I'll have gestational diabetes but at least I have a chance to make changes and get things back on track.

QOTW: Will you be having a baby shower? If so, what are the plans? My mom and sister are hosting mine. It will be Noah's Ark themed (my mom's pick). I am purchasing my invites this weekend but that's all the involvement I have (flame away because I really don't care).
  • @beckij34 LOL, I literally laughed out loud at your "flame away" comment. Not sure where the girls on this forum got the idea that it's okay to flame people for helping out with the planning of a baby shower (or for any reason, really).
