Here's how it works - One person posts a GTKY question and then the next person answers their question and posts their own GTKY, which is in turn answered by another person who posts yet another GTKY and on and on.  The questions can be an simple or complex as you want.

I'll start. What would your younger self be most surprised to learn about your "grown up" self?

What would your younger self be most surprised to learn about your "grown up" self?  
That I was able to become more laid back and learn how to go with the flow instead of having every little detail planned out.

@swanbrooner My younger self would be surprised that I would have waited to being married to DH for 3 years before we started TTC. My younger self thought we would have started much sooner!

2 weeks...after 2 long term relationships, I pretty much knew what I wanted and didn't want in a partner. We got married after 8 months of dating.

If you could go back in time and do 1 thing different, what would it be?

I would go back and not push all my high school friends away my senior year. I was an angry teen and had been around the same people since preschool. I just wanted a change, but in that I lost a few great friends. 

If you could change one thing about your dh/so what would you change?

I would love to see my DH with stronger professional skills.  He sucks at walking that line between friend and professional.  He sucks at interviewing probably because he just can't read people and is too blunt (he just doesn't get the marketing spin to business).  He gets so down on himself as result of slower career growth and opportunity despite doing great at his job. 

If you could splurge on one item with cost being no issue, what would it be?

Ultimate dream career: large animal veterinarian. I started undergrad as pre vet and couldn't get past all the chemistry with good enough grades to get into vet school. I would love to do a dairy cattle only practice but I would also have to live somewhere else 

What "group" were you in in high school (nerd, jock, popular, etc)?

I was a band geek in high school.  I played French horn in concert band and mellophone in marching band.

I love my honesty. I have a heart so I am mindful of when to curb the honesty. But I think a lot of people trust me because they know exactly what they will get with me.


What is/was your cardinal rule as a parent that you swear/swore you'd never break?

I think a cardinal rule I would want to have as a parent that I would swear to never break is to not put my daughter down. I think even doing it over small things can really hurt a kid's self-esteem over time and I hope to not be guilty of this.

What was your greatest failure and how did you overcome it?

My greatest failure to date has been not loving and accepting myself for who I am... I have focused way too much over the years on wanting to be in a different state (e.g., weight, looks, relationships) and looking to the future versus allowing myself to be present and happy in the moment.  I don't want to count that as a failure though as I hope I continue to get better with this vs. it always being an issue/failure.

What is the biggest thing you rushed into or didn't 100% think through and wished you would've/could've handled differently? (not necessarily regret though)

My wedding. Not our marriage but the actual wedding. We had a plan to get married a year after we actually did. Unfortunately the army had other plans. So I planned our wedding in 3 months while he was in Iraq. He landed 36 hours before our ceremony. So many things we went super cheap on and most of our families were against the wedding so we had no help paying for it or really planning it. I was 19 and had no idea what I was doing. But I wouldn't ask for help either, I had too much pride. 

What is your go to wardrobe item that you can't live without?

i rushed into redoing our house. As soon as I moved in, I began the process. I wish I would've taken my time and actually spent more time getting ideas. I had "get it done!" on the brain.

Sorry @awoodruff27 I will answer yours.. mine would be my leggings. Right now and really anytime, I love them!!!! I know they aren't everyone's favorite, but I go to them all the time.

Most embarrassing moment: I was a junior in high school and was at a job interview that was going really, really well. It was at a horse farm that gives lessons to disabled adults and children and ran a summer camp. They were going to offer me the job and asked for my ID, social security card, and insurance card to be scanned. I had changed purses for the interview becuase my mom told me to take a different one. In the process of changing purses, all I put in it were my keys and cell phone. No wallet. I explained what I did and they mentioned that it was illegal to drive without my ID! I didn't get the job.

Are you and your Dh/so opposites attract or the same as each other? Explain 
I think we are a combo.  DH is the kind of person people are just drawn too.  He's naturally charismatic and it makes you want to tell him all your secrets.  People just love him.  I am always quieter around people and need to warm up to them.  DH used to knock over mailboxes and hit the fuse box before his mom woke up so he wouldn't have to go to school and sneak out.  I was the kid that never had the urge to step out of line.  I hid my progress report once (and got caught).  That was the worst thing I did.  DH likes jam bands and jazz (elevator music).  I like the beach boys, billy joel, etc.  But sports and being outdoors are really important to both of us.  We love traveling and experiences new places.  We love to have in-depth discussions on political policies and current events.  We love a good fart joke.  We both prefer to spend the night inside watching movies instead of partying.

Maybe odd but this is a fun one in my memory: One year when I was like 7 or 8, on my birthday my dad took me to Toys 'R Us on a spending spree and spent like $500. I remember walking through those huge aisles and feeling like the world was my oyster. One item that stands out in particular was getting the Cabbage Patch doll of my choice. That was not a normal birthday for me!

The most annoying thing about being pregnant is getting enough to eat! I'm not a big eater in general and sometimes struggle with having much of an appetite even when not pregnant, so being hungry every two hours is driving me crazy. I dont know what to eat and we don't really keep snack foods on hand. 

What is your favorite thing to do on weekends?

@jaginmi I loved my cabbage patch doll so much.  In fact I even bought this baby one after Christmas on clearance that's in a sparkly red dress.  I searched through all of them looking for one closest to my daughters due date on her "birth certificate". 

I love to do a few things on the weekend.  I'm not gonna lie I'm a crazy dog parent, I take both of my dogs through the Starbucks drive through on Saturdays so they can get a cup of whipped cream and I can get some coffee.  There are also a couple of local places I love to go to brunch at on the weekends.  During the summer I usually follow up brunch with a trip to my favorite plant nursery to check out plants and especially the rose bushes.  I'm a crazy rose bush lady.  The more exotic the bush... the more I need to have it.  I have probably 25 bushes at home and I spend a lot of time pruning and caring for them.  My profile picture on here is one of my favorite bushes at home. 

What is your biggest regret as an adult that you wished you done in your younger years?

Answering @Wearmi1 my biggest regret as a teen/young adult was not taking high school/college seriously. I changed my major a few times and dropped out. Now I'm 32 and still working towards my bachelor degree in business administration. Stay in school kids.

Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
This is a really tough one. I was inspired by science teachers who really cared about their students and planned fun experiments to go in to a science profession. I have also been really inspired by local photographers to teach myself photography. For life in general, I don't think I have one big inspiration. 

What's your favorite holiday and why?

What is your favorite holiday and why?  - So, I have a "trifecta" of favorite holidays...Halloween through Christmas.  I just love the entire series of holidays because they're full of fun, food, and get togethers with friends and families.   If I only had to pick ONE though, it would be Christmas, mainly because of the traditions I have with DH.

What is the #1 thing you want to do FOR your child in their lifetime?

I would love to be able to give them experiences and memories. Presence over presents.

My husband and I both grew up very active in 4H, FFA, and both showed horses. We also both has dads that took us hunting and fishing a lot. I would love to be able to do all of these things with our kids. We have big dreams of being a 4H family and having our kids show animals and I would love for my kids to have a pony early on and ride with them. I think these things really shaped my future as well as my husbands and instilled in us a love for animals, agriculture, and hard work.

I'll do both personality and appearance. I hope she has his eyes. I hope she gets his silly sense of humor. Sometimes it's annoying but overall I love how much I laugh everyday.

My DH has the most gorgeous blue eyes, so I hope my son inherits those (all of my girls have them) and my H's temperament. Nothing phases him, he doesn't stress, he doesn't raise his voice, he's just a chill dude.  


What is your five year goal? New house, less debt, finish school, etc.?

"Classic" fast food, probably Chick-fil-A.  I'm a sucker for their lemonade.  Higher end fast food it's a toss up between Chipotle and Cava.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live? As lame as it sounds I would totally love to move back to Ann Abor, MI.  We lived there when DH was in law school and it's such a great place.  Great food, so much to do, and obviously FOOTBALL.

I go back and forth between focusing on knitting and focusing on running. I'm definitely not running now, so I'm knitting some, but my "spare time" is actually focused on grad classes.

Very much so.  So much so I'm fearful of when the show will drop.  I'm a fairly optimistic person generally, but I feel like I've been so lucky, at some point something is going to falter!

I'd like to learn to sew. I keep meaning to do it. I can hand sew some basic things. And I know some embroidery basics. But I'd love to be able to sit down and make a dress or whatever if I wanted. I love the idea of being able to make whatever I want to make.
