I JUST SCROLLED THROUGH ALL THE STUFF THAT'S BEEN PURCHASED OFF MY BABY REGISTRY FOR THE SHOWER NEXT SATURDAY
I'm weak! I resisted temptation for so long and then just GAVE IN *runs away to go to bed*
I caved the night before and saw that my boss bought the Britax stroller and car seat that I put on there just for kicks. I was so shocked! It's just wayyyyy too hard to resist.
do you think it is too early to start a labor thread? I know we have a lot of multiple moms and some ladies on bed rest and some feb moms. thoughts?
No preference. We have had a few times already ppl could be posting there. Also: I know the February group's thread, for instance, included labor related questions. So it could be used that way too until baby time. Worst case you start it and it doesn't get used and needs to be bumped up a few times.
For over a week H has been freaking out bc his company is doing mass layoffs, and today was black Tuesday... They were going to find out who made the cut. He has only been with the company for 5 months, and the other 6 managers had mostly been there for 10+ years. Today, they announced that they were cutting 3 of the 7 managers and H survived!! I feel horrible for the 3 people who were let go, but I could NOT think of a worse time for H to lose his job (especially bc I just asked to go part-time when I return to work in June), so I'm mostly insanely relieved!
Just had a growth scan today - baby is measuring 5 lbs 12 ozs and I'm not even 33 weeks yet! Yikes! I know these scans can be off... but still this is a big baby. DD was only 7 lbs 1 oz at birth (born 39 + 5 days), was hoping for a similar situation
@CanadianintheSouth Eek! My doctor won't even do a weight estimate until 38 weeks, so I have no idea what to expect. DH and I were both in the 6-pound range so I would be quite content for our baby boy to end up similarly.
A lovely and tall acquaintance of mine, with an even taller husband, just announced her son's birth stats... 11 pounds, 8 ounces, and 24 inches long. Holy cow!!! And she birthed him without a c-section! Wonder Woman.
I'm glad to hear that others have peeked at their registry too. I like the explanation that it's to make sure the registries are equal and to shift things to where the purchases are happening. That's my excuse now too!
*TW* - BFP & MC in March 2016. BFP in June 2016; EDD March 2017. Samuel born February 2017!
@EnglishTeacherMama she scheduled me for the growth scan because my fundal measurement increased so much between my last two appointments. Turns out she was right that the baby is big! I now feel better about my weight gain, so there's that?
I peeked at my registry but it was only 1 thing reserved. My parents bought the crib. No one else got anything yet. But the shower is next weekend so I guess they still have time.
Forgot to add this baby likes to press against my bladder like it's a game. She does it over and over again all day. Every time I get this painful twinge. I also can't sit forward although this has been for a few weeks now. So whenever I'm on my laptop I have to lean back in my chair to do my work because as soon as I lean forward she kicks like I'm in her way.
So they told me that based on my due date I am not eligible at all!! That means that a co-worker whose baby is born after June 1st and just starting her leave will get her entire 12 weeks paid (I was mistaken, it's 12 weeks not 10) while on June 1st I am still on my leave and receiving no pay at all. If I start my leave 3/28, that means the short term disability I am allowed for 8 weeks will be expiring right at that time (65% of pay). I have worked for this company for 6 years and I feel so slighted. I understand when policies change some people miss a cut off, but this goes into effect DURING my leave. It's totally unfair for them to cut me out of those 4 weeks paid. That's an entire month's salary difference. Not ok. The new policy also offers an additional 2 weeks to take anytime during the first year of baby's life. Apparently I am not eligible for this either, Again, policy takes effect June 1st. My baby is due 3/28.
I do understand having any benefit at all is a privilege that many do not have at all, and believe me I am fully aware that I am lucky to have a job that offers this benefit in the first place, however I just think they are not rolling this out in a way that is reasonable.
Waiting to hear when I can go up and talk to them in person. At least my boss is backing me up.
@jenny0228 oh my gosh! That's so so infuriating! Just because your baby comes a few weeks earlier. Grr. I hate crap like this. I really hope they can find some wiggle room for you to get at least a portion of these benefits too.
@jenny0228 good luck!!! I had something kind of similar happen last pregnancy. Our policy was a full 8 weeks paid, then the day after the baby was born I got an email from my boss saying that the policy had changed and they just hadn't sent out the new policy which was 4 weeks full pay and 4 weeks half pay - still good but irritating. I fought it but did not win. I hope you do!!!!
@jenny0228 that is BS. You've been there for 6 years. They may not be required to honor it, but it's called employee appreciation...It just doesn't exist anymore. When I was 7 months pregnant with DD, my company did AWAY with the maternity policy they had in place and tried telling me they wouldn't honor it for me. I had to go to the VP (a lawyer) and argue that it was BS and they can't change the policy in the middle of my pregnancy. He agreed and they honored it. And THEN some. Employers generally just suck. I'm sorry.
Do we have a thread about plans for birth control after baby? I think we did and I think I even commented on it lol. But just wondering if anyone is planning a tubal litigation? My mom brought it up to me last night as this is our last and I can get it done during my csection. I am unsure about it - will be talking to the dr when I see her next week

I had a growth scan this morning too! I'm 32 weeks and at 5.5 lbs. I have another growth scan next month (because of GD), and I'll most likely have to start an insulin pill 1 time a day (my numbers after bfast and lunch are fine, but dinner and fasting are too high )
I had about an hour of insane ugly cry over this. I felt like I was a failure because I couldn't manage it through diet/exercise. But then my best friend (who had her first baby 3 years ago when she was 26 weeks pregnant) brought me back to reality.
It feels like just yesterday I took a humpday bump pic. This pregnancy is a strange mix of both dragging on and going by quickly. Also, im far too lazy to get up and take a picture... mostly because that would also require putting pants on. Baha.
@kjd291 i agree with the flying by/ slow pregnancy.. every friday i'm like wow another week already. and every other day i'm thinking oooommmmmgggggg it's so far away! i have something going on this weekend and DH is gone next weekend so if I can just keep cramming activities into my schedule maybe it'll help time pass..
@jenny0228 may i ask how big your office is? It is time to make a BIG DEAL out of this. I understand why there are rules and cutoffs, but this is a huge example of when rules are meant to have exceptions. Hopefully talking to them in person will help. I would be as firm as possible. It's good that your boss has your back. At my office, I often find I am quoted one (strict, crazy, restrictive) policy by one person, and then talk to someone else and get a voice of reason and everything works out.
I understand that they would not want to make exceptions for people who already took their leave and are back (although it seems like people within the 1- year period should get that two week part), but that is not your situation. There should, at a minimum, be a compromise that you all could reach.
I have like 25 belly pics for my time lapse video so far, and I decided I'm going to keep snapping one photo per week holding the baby after he/she is born! For however long I can keep up with it. They grow so fast it'll be neat to see.
@Cbeanz love it!! I really wanted to do a time lapse this time around, and asked for DHs help a dozen times, but never got around to it but continuing through baby growing up is a great idea!
@anonellis the company I work for is big. It's a brand everyone knows. Which makes it all the more shocking that is was rolled out in such a sloppy way. I am not going down without a fight, I find this SO unreasonable. Now I'm hearing from a few other women that they are considering a "transition period" for which I would miss the cut off by four days. AREYOUKIDDINGMERIGHTNOW?? four days? so if baby is late I'm good, if he's early I'm screwed? It's turning into a big deal for sure. I pity the HR rep who is dealing with all these angry pregnant women right now. She didn't make the call about this policy, but she has us all knocking on her door while the people that did decide are probably hiding in their office on lockdown trying to figure out what to do.
The couple who were on last night with the son with Downs.
When the husband answered the question about the viral video & relayed how he had seen it etc I lost it horribly & then basically cried on & off the remainder of the episode. It was AMAZING for good feels.
@jenny0228 Keep at it girl! What they're proposing is crap and I hope you can raise hell and get what you want. I guarantee it was a man who's behind this decision.
@jenny0228 It is just so WEIRD. Why have a firm date like that at all? Why not something like, "Everyone who has already reported their leave/pregnancy to HR is under the old policy and everyone who has not yet contacted HR or a supervisor is under the new?"
@jenny0228 I really hope you're able to convince them to let you & any other women there currently in the same position to expand the dates or at least make exceptions for you all...esp. since you've been there so long & drive so much for it too it clearly shows you're dedicated to your job! It's great that your boss is supportive of you, I hope your HR will realize how unfair it is & will fix it.
I had my final ultrasound this morning to check position and growth and....baby is no longer breech! She has lots of hair, long legs, is measuring in the 55th percentile, and I'm already dilated to a 1. I know the dilation is NBD, but I didn't dilate before my induction with my last. They had to crank up the pitocin to get me to start dilating. Because these two are less than a year apart, I'm at risk for pre-term labor and the OB told me to pack my bags.
I am very relieved to hear that I am not the only one who shame-checks my registry.
I wish I could say I only check it on rare occasions... Nope, I totally check it All. The. Time.
I shamelessly check mine almost every day "because there are some items on both registries and I need to mark it as bought on the other one or we will end up with 2"
