Hi everyone! I've been lurking around here since TTC and have read a lot but not posted too much yet. I'm due in June and we are having a little girl. We're definitely set on her first name being Hadley, and now we are trying to pick a middle: Jane or Rae.
I think both sound nice, if it matters our last name starts with S and is 3 syllables. I'm leaning more towards Jane and my husband prefers Rae. What do y'all think? I did a google search just to see and apparently both combinations are the names of boutique clothing stores- which doesn't bother us.
I agree that Rae has a very southern sound - but I don't see that as a bad thing. If you don't live there though, people may side-eye it. Jane is beautiful and classic.
I'll also throw Faye out there for consideration. Good luck!

Yeah; my Texan husband picked it I'm okay with southern sounding names because his entire family is in the south and one day we will probably move too, but something in my gut told me Jane just goes better and it seems like y'all agree.
Also one more question to ease my fears: her monogram will be hSj which is fine, but her initials normally are HJS.
My husband's only hesitation on the name is that he seems to think HJ could provoke teasing in middle and high school. I think it's a stretch. BJ? Sure. But HJ isn't really a thing- right? I feel like in middle/highschool most of my peers didn't ask/know/care about my middle name. Sure if her initials were STD or ASS I'd reconsider, but I think he's just grasping at straws here.
What would HJ be referring to for teasing? I seriously cannot think of anything?
Hand job?
Huh I didn't even think of that and I tend to have the mind of a 12 year old most of the time. I think that's a big stretch OP especially with a first and middle combo.

Perfect. That's exactly what I said. I felt like he made that abbreviation up, I've never heard anyone shorten it to HJ and I never went there until he said something. Then I racked my brain to my childhood and I don't remember anyone being that mean or digging for an insult, but I thought maybe it was my experience.
Our LO will be Henry Joseph. We thought about HJ and the association to hand job. My husband felt that it was not a problem and he was a teenage boy. No one we have told his name to mentioned any issues.
Re: Need help choosing a middle
Rae always makes names sound very country to me which is ok just not my style
It's hard to pair Rae with a name that when said together isn’t country bumpkin. Hadley isn't it.

Also, I think I was in college before anyone would have thought to associate HJ with Hand Job.
