CJ for a boy - does it mean Junior?

I mentioned to my sister that we were considering a name, but would probably call the kid "CJ." She told me that Initial+J usually means "Junior" and it would be weird just as a nickname.
DH's name does start with C, but I was definitely not into a Junior!
Is this a fact??

Re: CJ for a boy - does it mean Junior?

  • No, my friend is Thomas James and goes by tj, I know a few girls that's go by dj aj and kj. I don't automatically think that j is for junior. Now I do know some that the j is junior like a friend's older brother is pj and his is a junior but not always lol

  • Most of the CJs, AJs, DJs..... I know are juniors, but I know a couple who aren't.

  • Any "letter" j person I know it's due to their first name middle name initials nothing to do with junior. Off the top of my head I know a Clinton James CJ, a Jonathon James JJ and a Adam Joseph AJ. Tell your sister she is weird

  • Plus Donna Jo on Full house = DJ

  • It would never even occur to me that the J might be for Junior. I would assume that it was the first initial of his middle name.
  • I only know a couple people who go by initial nns and they all have a middle name starting with J. I can see how it could work for a Jr too but that wouldn't be my automatic assumption.

  • I have known both, so I definitely wouldn't assume that he was a junior

  • My DH had a nickname from his mom that was CJ, based off initials. He was not a junior. Our LO will have an middle initial J. Someone may call him HJ, but only because of initials (since he won't be a junior).

perhaps I've heard the J as a representation of junior before, but I assume initials.
  • My brother is CJ based off his initials, nothing to do with Jr. You could do it either way if you wanted, it is just a nickname.
  • My sister is actually CJ... short for first name Candice last name J. I would not assume jr!
  • I would also assume it was an initial (middle or last) and wouldn't jump to junior. I don't think I know anyone who is a junior that uses the nickname that way.

  • Same as pp, I have known people who were juniors using this formula, but I have known more who were using their first and middle initial. I haven't known anyone using their first and last initial, but I'm sure it is done and it wouldn't seem weird to me at all.
  • My son is Aaron James and goes by AJ...no need for the J to indicate "junior"
  • Thanks everyone! My sister acted like I was stupid for not knowing it means Junior! She is a teacher so I figured she knew a lot more about names than me!
