Monday B*fest

Re: Monday B*fest

  • @Rachelbd I'm sorry you are facing this issue where neither wants to compromise; it sounds very stressful!
    :(
We do have guns in our house, in a locked gun safe with amnunition stored separately. I have no interest in it, but grew up in a family that hunts and so did my husband. I have felt fine having them in the house, but like you've said, I don't feel safer in my home because of the unrealistic time it would take to have one ready to use. My 4 year old at this point has no knowledge of guns or that we even have a gun safe (hidden in the back of a packed closet).

I read a (fictional) book recently though, 19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult that had made me think more about it. The young boy in the book had lots of problems, but ultimately knew where the key was to their gun safe, knew where the ammunition was stored and had access to his father's hunting rifles without the parents realizing it.

The compromise of your husband storing the guns at a friend's house might be a good one, if he just wants one for recreational use and a friend already owns a gun safe.

Otherwise maybe calm discussions about how a gun in your home is quite unlikely to help in an emergency, since you'd need to store it unloaded and locked up with kids in the house?
