Crib Mattress

My husband will be starting the crib build this weekend and we are trying to decide on what kind of mattress to purchase. Anyone have suggestions on the best, most reasonable crib mattress? The dual sided ones seem like a good idea since they are firm for infants and softer for toddlers but is it practical?

Dual sides are very practical.

We got a 2 sided mattress- it is called Sealy Signature Brilliant Nights 2 stage Crib and Toddler mattress. We figured it was worth it since our crib is convertible to a toddler bed as well that we just keep the same mattress.

We didn't do the dual-sided mattress, but DS never seemed to care that it was firmer. We've moved him to a twin bed now and that mattress is firm too. It's all he's known so it hasn't been a problem! But I definitely see the perks to a dual-sided one.

I just got the cheapest one at the store. We co-slept with a bassinet until around 6mo and DD could fully roll over and support her own head by the time we used the crib so I wasn't worried about mattress firmness. she's only used it for a year because we're already transitioning to a twin bed so this LO can eventually get the crib.

I just wanted to add that it's important to read the reviews...some mattresses have a strong smell that takes a long time to wear off.

@kjd291 baby will be in the bassinet section of the pack n' play for a while but eventually he'll move into the crib. I'm not sure how soon that will be though! The master bedroom is the only one on the bottom floor so i'll have to go up and down the stairs to get to him, which is why we're starting out in the pack n' play next to my bed!

We got Colgate Evertrue Grand.  It's dual sided and greenguard certified so shouldn't have the stink from chemicals.

We didn't go with the dual sides mattress, but once DD was a little over a year old we added a mattress pad/protector to make it a little softer. Honestly, when we have had to take the pad off to wash it and it didn't have time to dry it before bed, she didn't really seem to be bothered by not having the pad.

ETA: We bought a Serta mattress that ran about $100, and almost 2.5 years in, we are still happy with it.

We didn't do a dual sided mattress.. but did go with one that was organic, American-made and didn't have fumes. I'm really not too "crunchy" but it just seemed like the right choice for only a little bit more.

I got the Lullaby Earth mattress
