Trouble TTC

New Intro

I was active on this board for awhile but fell off for about a year so I thought I would reintroduce myself.

My husband (28) and I (27) have been TTC for over 3 years. We tried for a year on our own and nothing. I had many months where I for sure thought I was pregnant but nothing. I started my testing all levels normal,  HSG normal. We tried to moved forward with an SA however ran into trouble with the fertility clinic that my doctor outsourced to. The office that set up new patients was basically unreachable. Would not return phone calls, emails, etc.

About a year and a half/ two years into everything we found out we were moving for DH job. We decided to take a break mainly for my sanity. I was also starting a new job and if I did get pregnant I would not yet qualify for paid leave.

I started seeing a new doctor who is fantastic. At my first appointment she basically said I respect that you want to take a break but when you give me the green light I don't stop until you have a baby. So refreshing based on what I experienced in the past. I basically got, oh you're young you have time.

We recently started our "retesting". My levels once again came back normal. Unfortunately my DH's SA came back with issues. Count of only 5 million. Motility is ok. The most concerning part in my doc's opinion is his 0% morphology. Plan is to retest in one month just to rule out a bad sample.

My my doctor suggested we just talk about sperm donors. See if it's something we would be interested in. It would be the easiest (in her medical opinion). Anyone have experience with this? Used a donor or decided against? I've been going back and forth on it as has my DH.

Re: New Intro

  • Hello, I am sorry you have to be here but glad you joined us.  I am sorry for your troubles but am glad that you like your new doctor.

I have no experience with sperm donation, but I can understand what a hard decision that would be to have to make.

  • I have no personal experience with that. A friend of mine, her husband had problems - they ended up choosing ICSI and had a baby (but only after 2 failed FETs). I don't know if that's an option for you. You may find some people with donor experience on the Infertility board.

Good luck to you, and so sorry for your troubles.

  • @J1006 so sorry you find yourself here and that DHs SA results weren't what you were hoping for. I don't have any experience with donor sperm but want to wish you the very best of luck.

  • @J1006 Welcome back! I'm sorry you have to be here. It sounds like you have a great new doctor. I have no donor sperm experience, but we are also dealing with MFI (low motility here), and I understand how frustrating that is. I do hope this was just a fluke for you. Keep us updated on the retest.

FWIW our RE has suggested ICSI if we go the IVF route, which requires significantly less sperm. I don't know how it would work with 0% morphology. Is your H seeing a urologist who specializes in Infertility? I'd definitely suggest it as they may be able to help increase count and morphology if the next test confirms an issue.
  • Hello! I don't have any experience with sperm donation. But when I was researching vasectomy reversal doctors I found Dr Sherman Silber. The only reason we didn't go with him was because he's more expensive (but not crazy expensive) and located in Missouri. He is a pioneer in the field. I would definitely recommend checking him out!

  • Welcome back. Congratulations on finding the nice doctor, it makes such a difference. We are now starting to think about IVF and that is precisely my concern, finding the good doctor to help us through the process.

egg donors? No idea but I also have thought of it. DH has low motility and morphology is not good either. Bottom line we may have to consider like you are, the donor situation. I haven't talk to DH about it, how is your DH dealing with it? I would be all in for it but I fear his ego may be hurt(?)
