Pregnant after IF

Velamentous Cord Insertion

Hello ladies,

Just had my anatomy scan done and was told that I have VCI but do not have vasa previa. Just wondering if anyone else has been told they had VCI and if so, what is the protocol for monitoring and ensuring a healthy delivery. I have not spoken to my OB about this yet since I just saw her last week and my next appt isnt until Dec 23rd.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hey @Steff_99! Both of my girls have VCI. I'm not sure what the standard monitoring for it is, but my MFM checks it every two weeks when I go in to make sure they're doing okay. He said that generally the only problem it causes is when your water breaks. I think for singletons who have it they'll probably schedule a c-section, or have a very closely monitored natural delivery ready for a c-section if it starts to cause distress to your baby.

Thanks @AandDM2014 for the info. I guess VCI is more common for singletons that were conceived through IVF. My mind is spinning with questions to ask my O.B. but from what Ive read as long as Vasa Previa isnt detected all should be fine.
  • Yes, I was told it is more common with IVF babies. I'd definitely ask your OB all the questions you want, but I was told to not worry about it too much. You may get extra ultrasounds to make sure your babe is growing properly in the third tri.
