feeding baby

Does anyone else ever give baby what you're eating? I will puree it if it can't be mashed, but he has had just about everything we have. Roast, potatoes, chicken noodle soup, Mac N chz, broccoli, eggs, onions,  I make all my own food. Of course I have sweet pots, butternut squash, and all fruits always cooked up and froze. My latest which is his new favorite is apples and walnuts puree, sometimes I mix chicken that I've pureed in too. His other favorite is squash, sweet pots and pears with cinnamon, and nutmeg. Just curious if your LO eat what you eat or are you sticking to baby food? I will say I've changed from using salt and pepper to morenof the other spices which has made us all eat better... low sodium. It's been a fun experience.

Re: feeding baby

  • We have been in the past couple weeks been feeding Caleb what we eat. We have just been cutting it up into small pieces that he can mash up himself. We usually have to give him baby food with the meal to make sure he is filled up as he eventually gets distracted and just plays with the food we cut up for him. He has been getting better everyday at eating our table food.

  • I luckily have the time to home cook all our meals, Owen is 41 weeks today and eats whatever we do, just cut up in small pieces, and I have also cut out adding salt and pepper to my cooking, but we use lots of other spices.

I can't remember how long we have been feeding him like this, I think I last puréed food when he was 7 months. When the doctor asked what he was eating at his 9 month appointment my only answer was "everything!".

Well I still puree everything we eat, but I'm going to start just cutting it up now. What about meat? Do you feed them meat that's not pureed? My DS is also 41 weeks today.
  • Yes! We cut up cooked chicken, turkey, and fish. Beef and Pork are trickier, since he can't chew it easily. He gets red meat when we have stew, or meatballs or burgers etc. where it's either really soft or ground. As long as I can easily squish it between my fingers he is fine with it, we haven't had any choking episodes!
  • Thanks @jprior85. I'm going to start offering g foods chopped up I stead of pureed now too!
@SarahChristine12 my DH says "don't let him do that" when I let him feed himself, but that's half the fun is getting messy and playing with it. He will just have to get used to the mess (it will get cleaned as soon as he's done eating anyways).
  • My LO loves feeding himself, so I tend to give him small pieces of fruits/veggies and bread/crackers that he can handle on his own. I do spoon feed some things that just aren't practical without one: soup, oatmeal, pasta sauce, yogurt, etc., but his clear preference is for "real" solids that he can feed himself. If I'm spoon feeding, I try to also offer something he can hold himself or else he gets annoyed.

We haven't really explored meat yet. He has had a tiny bit of chicken in a quesedilla, but we don't eat that much meat and I honestly haven't considered it a priority yet. We're doing our Thanksgiving meal tomorrow, so he will get to try turkey!
