Recently I heard about a short BBC series called Bringing Up Baby, and all 4 parts can be found on YouTube, about 3 very different types of parenting styles and it was an interesting watch so I'd definitely recommend to check it out. It's a bit dated but interesting nonetheless!
I also found a BBC series called The Midwives, focusing a bit on the staff of multiple British hospitals and random women who go into labour and that show has 2 seasons. Also, One Born Every Minute is another 'birth story' type show, also on YouTube, which I am currently devouring....I'm currently unemployed so I have a lot of free time to watch these shows as I'm sure you can tell!
I LOVE call the midwife. I hate how short the seasons are!
ETA-also would highly recommend "The business of being born" on Netflix. Some complain it guilts mom's if they don't have natural medfree birth, but I found it very informational and encouraging about what our bodies can do on their own, and reminder to stick up for yourself and your desires for how to have your baby!
I keep feeling kicks but I have to push a little hard to actually feel them from the outside. I keep trying to get DH to feel but he won't press down on my tummy. He doesn't want to squish baby. I tried telling him that it's ok to push a little and told him how hard they push with the ultrasound wand to get a good view but he's not having any of it.
@MrsFlemingo - thanks for the recommendation on the BBC documentary. I binge watched it... it was fascinating but also kind of scary! I'm not sure yet what I'm taking away from all of that, but it was food for thought for sure.
I want to check out those series! I feel so unprepared for everything & am already feeling nervous about how not ready I am for this baby. I haven't changed a diaper in 15+ years and wish I could get some practice before baby comes. I signed up for 3 classes offered through our hospital in January - a "prepared childbirth" class, a "welcoming baby" class, and a breastfeeding class. DH will come to the first two with me, I hope after going through them all and watching things like the series mentioned above that I'll start feeling more confident.
I have a not-Friday confession: every time I go to the mall with my kid I pretend to shop at pottery barn kids so I can use their bathroom. Clean, roomy, single person room with free baby wipes.
I received a jury duty summons... For when I'm 34 weeks pregnant! I'm only 30 and this is the 4th time I've been called. This is causing me more irritation than it should.
4 weeks until my semester ends! DH goes back to work today, I have to impatiently wait until December 2nd to go see Fantastic Beasts now, because I promised I wouldn't go see it without him. I must really really love him.
@serenity13 I'm sure the classes will help you! We just took a baby care class through our hospital. We were early compared to the other moms, but it definitely helped us feel more like we're learning what we're getting ourselves into... not to mention, two of the moms were due THIS MONTH and the instructor kept asking if one was having contractions... she'd had a Coke and her baby was doing gymnastics At the class we also got a book that's basically a baby how-to, definitely keeping that around. Even though I worked at a nursery for awhile (years ago) I still learned something new - apparently you're not supposed to swaddle kids for nighttime sleeping anymore, which is why all those sleepsacks and wearable blankets where baby's arms stick out are a thing now. So it's impacted our registering too.
Are people registering for all types of nursing stuff? I know I'll need the pads and nipple balms and things, but is it typical to go ahead and put that on your registry that your dad and relatives and friends see, or not? Maybe I'm conservative but some of the stuff I'm seeing on registry lists just seems a little private to be putting out there... but I do want that discount LOL
@sunshine507 I registered for a lot of breastfeeding things...milk bags, extra parts, sanitizer etc. Basically only thing I didn't put on there were nursing bras....I can get those myself. Most of my friends who BF put breastfeeding items on their registry too.
@sunshine507 I put all that stuff on my registry, the creams/soothers/pads - they will probably just scroll past it and look for what they've had in mind.
I've already bought most of the nursing pads, creams, bags, but I wouldn't hesitate to put them on my registry. I've seen people get those as gifts at pretty much every shower I've been to. But I'm also not in a circle that does co-ed showers.
@sunshine507 with my past registries I would put anything that you can think of also the breast feeding supplies. Like @lindsey2017 stated there maybe some that will just scroll down and look for what they want and not give too much thought to what you have on the registry, plus at the end you'll get the discount. If you want to be sort of private about it maybe just add the stuff after your shower and it will be minimal to none of who will see it and you'll still get the discount.
my in laws had a legit argument with us yesterday regarding us speaking their native tongue to our kids. DH and i always communicated in English to each other. The in laws don't want us to speak English to them.
we have not even decided which language to speak to them yet lol. I was thinking a combination of all of them.. i already knows his family's parenting style will be dramatically different from DH and I....
One of my coworkers is being particularly heinous right now. She keeps commenting on why I'm not doing full days of walkthroughs. And that "I'm not that pregnant" about everything in general.
I told her that I'm having a complication which means that I'm not supposed to be on my feet all day. She demanded to know what it was! I ended up having to say "it's my personal medical information and I don't have to tell you" to get her to stop. Then she says "I'm a nurse, we don't care about that stuff" meaning sharing personal info.
Thats only one example. Today she was picking on me because I had my feet up. Apparently I'm not pregnant enough for my back to hurt.
Hi girls! I've been off the grid for about a week on vacation. It felt really nice to be on a technology break. Vacation wasn't too bad either, but road tripping with a tiny toddler who hates sleeping is exhausting!
Went to my doctor today - gained a whopping 9 lbs this month. Told myself at the office I would do better, and then I went straight to Panera and ate a chocolate chip cookie Completely lacking any self restraint right now.
It is currently 80 degrees on our side of the building at work. We've reached out the facilities guy to have him adjust, but seems like that's not going to happen. Time to break out the summer clothes I've put away already! This pregnant lady can't sit in an 80 degree office. P.S. it's only 60 degrees outside so we don't really need the heat at all.
I received a jury duty summons... For when I'm 34 weeks pregnant! I'm only 30 and this is the 4th time I've been called. This is causing me more irritation than it should.

Are you kidding me?! What a miserable bish! I'm so sorry you're having to deal with that, and at work of all places!
But in all seriousness-weight gain in pregnancy sucks. It's hard as a woman in this age of body image issues to see that number rise-even if you keep telling yourself the number doesn't matter. All I know is i can eat like a health freak all day and exercise like a crazy lady but I still keep gaining weight faster than average--so enjoy that cookie!

I put all that stuff on my registry and people made fun of me. One member of my husband's family said that no one wanted to buy stuff for me, the registry was supposed to be for stuff for the baby. Others made boon jokes at my bridal shower. Jokes on them though: I got all the nursing supplies I registered for. (I also did not register for bras.)
I just rolled my eyes. Apparently it's okay to register for rubber nipples and nipples brushes but lanolin crosses the line. Feeing a baby is feeding a baby. Both take supplies, lol.
@runboorun sorry about your coworker she sounds like a b*tch who should just mind her business. I don't get where people think that its okay to say anything they want.
My random is the toilet at work sucks because its too low. Everytime I have to pee I feel like Im going to fall since my balance is so off, either that or everytime I walk or think of fast walking I envision myself falling flat on my belly.
@Gators&BoSox I had issues like that the other day! I had to close out & re-open both the app & my browser then it worked like normal for both. On a positive, I haven't been getting all the popops in the bottom right anymore on the website so it's not quite as slow!
Re: Randoms! 11/14
The struggle is real.
