So relating to the dog stuff, if you have ever done any official dog training, you might be surprised to find some aspects of dog training to work on your kids. I found us using a lot of "leave it" and then similar potty training techniques when we were potty training the kids. :-)

I lived with my aunt for a wile in my twenties (my mums baby sister closer to my age than my mums) & she has this 3 legged cat who she referred to as my sister every now and again. I told her how insulting this was to my actual sister and that it would not make me like the cat any better but she still persisted in doing it.
Hmmm, well, I am already calling the baby my dog's brother so I may have a little more crazy pet lady in me than I thought. I'm just going to own it though. No regrets.
@Xstatic3333 same here. while i've only referred to having dogs as training wheels for babies, I've had both my dogs for 11years since they were puppies.
While they are not children and I am yet to be a mother, they are def part of our family and my son's, brothers. at least for now. call me crazy dog lady too.

Haha I do this exact same thing! My mom also LOVES that she is called my dog's grandma (she kind of insists on it). So I'm going to own it too
ETA clarification - while I may be a crazy dog mom I fully understand that a dog is in no way on the level of raising a child.
I guess I'm a crazy pet person. I call my hamsters my babies and we refer to them as the big brothers now that we're having a human baby. I've always joked and called my parents their grandparents and they call them their grandhamsters. I hope people don't honestly think that I think they are as difficult as having a child, I'll be the first to say they are the easiest to take care of. I mean I usually have someone check on them if I'll be away for more than a day or 2 but besides that they are self sufficient which isn't the case with even a dog let alone a human child. They do have little personalities though and are definitely a part of the family.
As long as people aren't trying to top stories of people with children by saying how much harder their pet is or how they went through the same thing with their pet I don't think it's that weird for people to share pet stories when other people are talking about their children. I've always worked with people older than me so they'd always talk about their spouses and children and for a while I was single and didn't have kids and I couldn't really contribute so sometimes I'd talk about what my hamster and I did that night. It wasn't like oh I get being up all night with a crying infant but more like I bought him a car and race track and it's hilarious! Check out this video I took of it! I mean it was that or not really having anything at all to contribute and I don't think anyone minded.

Late to the party but I hate being called Mama and IDK why but I hate reading things in Facebook groups where people are responding to things and calling random people Mama.
UO: parents whining about DST make no sense. Unless you intentionally stayed up an hour later on Saturday bc you were banking on that extra hour, your body got just as much sleep whether your clock says 7a or 6a when your baby woke you up.

Except when my kid went to bed at his normal time and now it's actually 5am instead of 6am, the imbalance goes forth the entire day for him and for a few days after.
It's not about banking on that extra hour of sleep, it's the extra hour that messes with sleep schedules. And a cranky kid = cranky parent.

Even though I was lucky and my kid woke up at her normal 7am adjusted, so really slept an extra hour, the whole day just felt off for us. It was weird. Eta: I'm prepared for my throat punch.

But he still got his normal X hours of sleep, right? And so did you? I can see it making naps and meals wonky for a day or two but everyone complains about what time the clock said when they got up. The clock said 5 but it FELT LIKE 6. For both of you. Am I missing something here? It just sucks to see 5:00?
@MommaBean I'm shooting you with my laser eyes. My kid went to bed last night at 830 like normal and woke up at 5 this morning. Which is 1 hour and 45 minutes before his regular wake up time at 645. We all slept less.
+1 to being a crazy pet lady. We refer to both of our moms as our dog's grandmas (our moms do too), we talk to the dog about his baby brother, and when we are talking to the dog about each other (yes, having conversations with the dog), I refer to H as "papa" and H calls me "mama". The dog knows us by those names.
I'll admit to being a crazy pet person, but all the mom/dad/grandkitten/etc stuff is said in jest. I truly don't feel having a pet is comparable to having a human child, nor do I feel *most* people think that way so I'm more apt to give them the benefit of the doubt.
My UO: I absolutely love Christmas time and compile gifts and stocking stuffers pretty much year round. But one thing I will always despise are the commercials advertising "doorbusters" because that word is nails on chalkboard to me.
UO: Since we're on the topic of Christmas, I LOVE going actual gift shopping. Not online but in stores, with crowds and holiday music. It's part of the festive nature.
BUT, I draw the line on Black Friday. I don't step foot in a store on that horrid day.
