Re: Randoms - Week of October 31st

  • So does anyone else primarily use the website and had trouble with the new way they've decided to do posts? Why on earth did the bump think 100 posts per page was a good idea! The threads with pictures take forever to load, so I dread clicking on them, and usually wait until there is several new posts before doing so. Ugh!

  • @dragonfaerie good luck on your glucose test
  • Ladies I have been having a I don't know if I would call it a pain or stretching feeling every time I stand down by my vagina anyone else get that feeling I was debating on calling the dr?
  • The glucose test went well enough. I didn't mind the fruit punch juice, it was basically a sugary gatorade, but I did get a little headache/dizziness after drinking it. My tummy got measured and I'm measuring at 28.5 weeks, so a little ahead. I also did get my Tdap, so my arm hurts a bit, but not terribly so. We'll get results in a few days! I did have a pumpkin chocolate chip cookie and two mini Twix bars when I got home, so I'm happy. Hehe.

  • Okay, weird body question of the day: has anyone else gotten dark moles/skin tags around their nipples? They look like moles or freckles, but the are slightly raised, and will actually end up peeled up and sometimes coming off completely if I scratch them (I don't pick, just if I accidentally scratch them.)

  • So I have a small vent and need help deciding what to do...
DH and I told all of our family this past weekend that we are expecting. A huge majority was overwhelmingly happy and supportive. For the family we saw, we told in person, and those that were not in town we sent a text message. The message was a pumpkin carved to look like a baby and the text said "Happy Halloween from all 3 of us!"
My MIL and BIL happen to be 2 of the people that received this text. Everyone else that got it had great responses and were congratulatory. We heard nothing from either MIL or BIL. The next day, MIL calls DH and starts complaining that we told her that way, and that she was last to know (she wasn't).  She never congratulated us, only complained. DH eventually told her he was sorry she couldn't be happy and hung up on her. We still haven't heard from BIL.

I'm so frustrated with how his family is responding. Mostly because I see how it upsets DH. I want to say something to both of them, especially MIL but just don't know what to say or how. I think they are being incredibly selfish.

Were we really that wrong to announce the way we did? Should I just let it go or say something?

  • @WishingforLuck Gotta love the super random pregnancy side effects! I think most skin things (aside from stretch marks) go away after pregnancy, so hopefully these will too!

@halips I guess I can kind of see a little bit of both sides. Your MIL probably would have preferred a separate call or visit (not sure if she's in town with you,) rather than a text message. Some people think that texts are very impersonal (whether it is true or not.) But it definitely is upsetting to not have even a little congratulations and only negativity. Maybe you could reach out to her and say something like "I'm sorry that you feel slighted. We weren't able to see you but wanted to tell you, and we thought this was a cute way to do so. it was not our intention to make you feel bad, and I hope that you can be happy for us." That way you are taking responsibility for what you can, while calling her out on her negativity. I've definitely learned with my MIL that sometimes you just have to suck it up and apologize for something you disagree with in order to make peace. You want this to be a happy time so if you can have a conversation to avoid resentment building, everyone will be happier. Best of luck!

  • @halips I would ignore it. Your MIL will get over it eventually. We told DHs mother over the phone and my parents were surprised with an ultrasound photo. My MIL lives in Florida which is way to far for a car ride. Not sure if your MIL lives in the same state but I would move on from this and at the next ultrasound get an extra copy of the ultrasound photo and give it to her. Hopefully that will make her feel special.  You shouldn't stress over it. It's not good for the baby. Good luck

ladies when did you alll get your whooping cough vaccine? I will be 30 weeks tomorrow

  • @halips I totally agree with @dragonfaerie. I think the suggested response is perfect for your MIL. I do think she might have though she deserved a more personal announcement so the above suggested response will be your acknowledgement of that and also a way to make peace. As for your BIL, I think I would leave it up to DH to call him and sort of say the same. Is it possible he didn't get the text? (Even though I know there's little chance of that happening these days) but still. I think a follow up call would be good. That way your husband can hear it himself if his brother is upset and they can hopefully put this behind them.

  • @halips Imma be kinda the opposite of the other responses. I personally made sure I called all of our parents with the news, and when we told them about the triplets we waited to do it in person. Then we also told my bro and SIL in person about the triplets. With the other big news (sexes) I also made sure I called each of our parents (well, didn't call FIL because I called MIL and FIL was in the car with her when I told her). Sure they aren't acting the best way, but I feel like this is news you don't share over a text.

  • @halips I think that your MIL has the right to feel the way she feels obviously . A lot of people do see texts as impersonal . I personally don't see them that way. even if she was disappointed in the way you chose to share the news she should have gotten over it to congratulate you . I think she is seriously overreacting . You don't owe her an apology in my opinion but it would help make peace . Whatever you do , don't stress too much about it . She sounds like someone who is hard to please in general . Just my opinion though !

  • @halips I agree with ultratomato, but it also just depends on the dynamic of DH family. I think that the easiest way to get past it is to suck it up and apologize that you did not tell her in a way that she appreciated. Something like this is not worth extracting drama out of, esp when you need to be in a good head space with supportive people around you. If she tends toward the dramatics though, the best response may just be to ignor it!

  • @dragonfaerie What time was your glucose test/ did you eat normally during the day? I have mine in a few weeks and Unfortunately mine is at 3pm! I am so scared. Anyone else that has done the glucose test have any advice for what i should eat that day?

@halips I am sorry you didn't get the reaction you were hoping for. I agree with the other ladies that she probably was disappointed you told her over text. It sounds like she is somewhat of a difficult person, but it is a big deal and to find out over text isn't ideal. I would tell her your baby's sex in person or at least via FaceTime or something. :) I hope it gets better with your in laws, don't stress over it too much.

  • @chicandbubbly my glucose test was first thing in the morning and I was told to fast from the night before. Did they tell you if you'll need to fast or not? Although I'm pretty sure my doc told me I wouldn't need to fast for the 1 hour one, but the lab said to fast when I scheduled it. So I just fasted. My doctor told me not to go crazy with eating or not eating certain things because then you might get a false result. Just eat normally and don't binge on carbs or sweets. Good luck!

  • Thank you everyone, for the feedback. We also told my mom via text, and she was just so overjoyed, it didn't matter. There's always been strife and tension with DH and his mom anyway, so not sure what else I expected. I've decided to just ignore her and keep being happy for us. After all we have went through, whether she regarded this as a slight or not, her reaction has been wholly selfish and inappropriate. I'm resolved to move past it and just kill her with kindness as everything progresses. Unfortunately telling her anything in person isn't an option, as she lives in another state , but we will be sure to send pics like suggested and call her for the future. Thank you all again!

@chicandbubbly good luck with your glucose test! I have mine at 5pm Monday and have been worried about the same thing. Dr. only told me to not eat for 4-5 hours beforehand.

  • @chicandbubbly My test was at 3pm as well. I was not told to fast, but only to not go crazy with the sugar at lunch time. I had a chicken salad for lunch and basically avoided carbs for the day. At the end of the day, there's not much you can do, because it's just how your body processes glucose. But if you go crazy with sugar, your blood sugar will already be high and then you might look worse than you actually are. Best of luck! I'm still waiting on my results from Monday.

  • @halips - I'm sorry you are having to deal with the added stress from family. It sounds like you and DH are on the same page which is really the most important. This is about you guys and if some of your family can't be happy for you then that's their problem. Hopefully she will get on board

@chicandbubbly - my OB told me specifically not to fast for the 1 hour.  You don't want to skew the results. The whole point of the test is to make sure your body is processing glucose the way it should. If you eat totally differently than you normally do, you wouldn't be getting an accurate test to begin with.  She just told me to not eat anything too sugary and no eating or drinking for the hour after you drink the drink.

  • @AandDM2014 Look up some yoga and/or exercises for pregnancy hip pain. I found one that really seems to help when I do it everyday: you lie on your back with your knees bent and put a firm pillow/ball between your knees and then squeeze. I squeeze for about 5 seconds 5-10 times and it definitely has helped.
