Weird cravings

I've been craving dirt and ice all the time! My husband works in construction so he'll come home with dirt in his pockets sometimes. I have to taste it when I check his pockets when I'm about to do laundry even though I know it's bad and unhealthy. I've had a conversation with him about is so he can go out side and dump it if he feels like he has some in his pockets and it has helped a little. 
Any advice/tips on how I can stop this?
and what are your weird craving and what have u done to stop craving it?

You are not alone! This is my second pregnancy and with both of them I crave dirt almost the whole time! A little dirt here and there never hurt. My parents used to say "God made dirt and dirt don't hurt." I really took that one to heart

I have this strong craving to post rude pictures and gifs right now........ but I'm mobile and just too lazy! Ugh someone please help fulfil my craving.

I need clarification. What do you mean by dirt? Do you mean soil? If so, soil is made up of distinct horizontal layers called horizons. They range from rich, organic upper layers (humus and topsoil) to underlying rocky layers (subsoil, regolith and bedrock). Saprolite looks like rock but when you touch it, you find it's more like mud... making it soil.

So which part are you craving? How much are you eating? You just didn't provide enough information is all...

Sounds like pica.  My sister craved ice through both her pregnancies.  Talk to your doctor because it could be a sign of mineral deficiencies in your diet... Or so I'm told.

I crave ice at times. Slushies normally help satisfy that or the odd ice cube here and there. I checked with my doctor regarding possible iron deficiency etc. But everything is normal. But dirt? That's new....

Several things:

1. Who are you? We have established a very tight knit community here, and you just barge in and start asking questions without any attempt to get to know us? Can you say RUDE?

2. Any type of craving that isn't food - i.e. Something you would cook for a guest- is a deficiency and needs to be addressed with a doctor, NOT internet strangers (see #1).

3. We are not your google. I just did a mobile search of 'dirt craving while pregnant' and found 2 pages of great, science backed, results. Try it.

4. Ladies (slarty, sourlemon, Fauxpa, Dumbledoor, kbduke, dmontgo, anyone I missed) I knew I loved you, but Now I have proof as to why.

I have an actual something to add to this random stupid. This is the first pregnancy I've ever craved the smell of things. I was watching something where someone was writing with a sharpie and I was DYING to smell it. Talking about it makes me really want to smell one now lol. Yesterday I walked out in the garage and my husband was
using some kind of automotive spray paint and the smell of that was also glorious. So weird!

Just make sure you are eating a good balance of topsoil and clay. Topsoil has all those friendly parasites and bacteria but too much clay gives you constipation. Unless you need a binder. Then it's certainly cheaper than kaopectate.  Hopefully you find some earthworms in his pockets too. They give the dirt a nice nutty flavor.

@whitneyp26 I had that happen in 2nd trimester with lavender. I wanted to smell it, bath in it, roll around in it, whatever I could get. I went to Whole Foods and bought lavender bath salts and lavender soap, which did the trick. But not before I stood there weirdly sniffing a scoop of the loose lavender they sell in bulk. I'm sure DH wanted to pretend he didn't know me.

@whitneyp26 It's been happening to me too - I usually only want unscented soaps and bath stuff, and since the moment I got pregnant I want to smell good things all the time. It's really out of character for me. Pregnancy is so weird...
