2+ moms and double stroller vs skateboard!

DD will be three by the time this baby is born so we are planning to forego the double stroller all together. (Except to rent as needed for like theme parks etc.) So my question is: are any of you currently using one of those skateboard attachments or plan to with the older one? I've only seen them used every now and again but never actually for sale in a store. So I'm looking for advice/tips on brand names and where to buy if anyone has experience with these!  Thanks!

Re: 2+ moms and double stroller vs skateboard!

  • I have an uppababy vista and they call theirs a piggyback board. I'm not sure how compatible it is with other strollers though.

  • Oh thanks @WombThereItIs ! Maybe I should've added our stroller is one of the Britax systems - if anyone knows where to go from there.
  • DD is three and still uses her umbrella stroller all the time. We tend to go alot of places (mall, zoo, vacation) that require a stroller and since we live in AZ, we use it year round. I'm hoping she'll continue to use a stroller for quite awhile.  That said, I don't want to drop a fortune on a cool double stroller.  I've been looking at the Graco sit n stand.  Prior to switching to the umbrella stroller, we used a Graco single stroller and really liked it.

  • @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot We are in CA and also use the umbrella stroller a ton. It sounds like it might be wishful thinking that she'll be rid of the stroller entirely by three but I'm hoping the stand and ride along part will work out since half the time she wants to walk alongside the stroller now anyways. Otherwise we'll probly have to bite the bullet and look into other spendier options.  :|
  • I am planning to get one of these type things, my twins will be 2.5 when this one gets here so we are in the position of avoid buying a close to $1000 triple stroller.   We are just on the fence if I just want to get the Baby Jogger board but those don't have a seat (we have both the City Mini Double Gt and the City's Select) already.

  • We are planning to get the Uppababy Vista with the piggyback board. DD will also be three when this babe arrives and hopefully won't use the stroller a ton, but we plan to have one more so will hopefully get some use out of it.

My oldest DD is 4 and still rides in the double stroller! We have the Joovy Caboose Too which can be used as a regular double stroller or the back seat comes un-snapped and it's a sit-n-stand! @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot My stroller has braved the hills of the Phoenix Zoo quite often! Lol

I love that I still have the option for my 4 year old to sit because sometimes if we are out she gets tired or if I'm shopping I can occupy them both in the stroller with their coloring or an iPad. That would be hard to do with just a skateboard attachment

Also, the Joovy Caboose Too with the seat attachment is pretty afordabale (in my opinion) for a double stroller. I think it was around $250?

  • I'm in this predicament too. My daughter HATES the stroller, she will turn 3 two weeks or so before the baby is born. She always wants to walk, but a 2.5 doesn't walk fast enough. I go back and forth about buying a double.
  • I'm still deciding what we are going to do. DS is already 3 and he does use his stroller if we are in crowded places or walking a lot or even when he falls asleep in the car and he doesn't want to wake up. At first, I was going to bite the bullet and just get a double one like the city mini select. However, DS is tall for his age and weighs 40lbs. So it seems that most strollers aren't a good fit. Currently, we use a Britax B-ready and it fits him perfectly but I do not like how it's double version is side by side. Now I'm on the fence about just buying a single stroller and adding the kick board option. I'm sure he'll love it because he loves holding on to the grocery basket and being pushed. If he's asleep, we could always put him in the stroller and I'll wear baby, or maybe just buy a cheap snap-n-go for the car seat.

  • Oh wow my almost 4 year old is in the stroller all the time. Daily walks/mall trips, zoo,Disneyland, etc. I have no idea what to do when baby comes. We were lucky enough to be given the city select as a gift and the double BOB as a gift. So we may just buy the attachments for him when baby comes. Until then I'll be babywearing and the stroller arrangements will stay the same. We are going to look like a traveling circus.

  • My 4 1/2 year old is always in the stroller too for walks, musuem and aquarium visits, trips, etc. Going through the airport is also a lot easier with a double stroller because it frees up hands and there's less to keep track of. A couple of weeks ago I was traveling and saw this poor mom baby wearing a kid, then with one in a stroller and one walking who looked to be about 4-5. I felt bad for her. Too much to keep track of and not enough hands.

If anything,  I  am sad that DS is getting kicked off the stroller.  I  do think that 5 might be to old to be getting a triple but I wonder if the skateboard attachment would work for a double stroller. Maybe something to look into.

  • @vrj0522 airports are the #1 reason I am leaning towards a double. I will be flying (possibly by myself) with my 3 year old and this baby in June. I'm already dreading it, but my brother is getting married.
  • What britax do you have?  The bagile or bready.  The Bready has a jump seat for a toddler.  If its the bagile there is an option for a board but with the small size of the stroller it may be difficult.  What about getting a double city mini or bagile.  You may be surprised and if you are somewhere all day your 3 year old may want to grab a seat.  You can also do the joovy which offers a sit and stand with the option of a second seat as well.  This way they can stand and sit if they want.

I traveled with a 2 year old and 6 week old by myself and I found it much easier to wrap the baby in my carrier and use an umbrella stroller for the 2 year old. I ONLY brought my diaper bag as a carry on and checked everything else. So the only thing I had to worry about was folding the easy umbrella stroller right before we got on the plane. It was nice to have the baby wrapped in the carrier and two hands free! Plus it kept strangers from wanting to touch her at such a young age when I was trying to avoid germs.

  • We use an umbrella stroller for my 2 year old now, but it's usually only used a few times on the weekend because he's at daycare during the week. He'll be a few months shy of 3 when this one is born. I'm leaning towards mostly baby wearing plus the stroller for a while. If it looks like a double makes more sense, I'll probably just buy one when we need it. Or just get a second umbrella stroller since there are very few occasions that we aren't all out as a family on the weekend.

  • @schnitz9 it's the b-agile so I will have to look into their attachment board option.
@RissaAnnmaria562 @h&pmomma I forgot about baby wearing! That might be a good solution for awhile since DD1 may still need to sit while on the go. For some reason I was thinking once I put the infant seat back in the stroller she would be kicked out for good but obviously I could leave the car seat in the car during outings. #pregnancybrain
  • @Kipperoo Did you know they make a connector thing to connect 2 umbrella strollers to make a side-by-side double? I love our Summer Infant umbrella so much that if there was anyway to put an infant in one, I'd probably just do that.

  • NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot ...WHA?? I had no idea these magical things existed but you just totally made my day. We saved our car seat compatible infant stroller from the last go around, although I hated it. But I hated it BECAUSE it was bulky, which makes me think I would hate a double stroller. I love umbrella strollers. We have the Uppababy G-Luxe and I love it.

  • NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot, thanks for passing along! I'm totally picking one of these up. I can always order a double stroller if it turns out that we need it but it would be so much easier (and cheaper) to get by with one of these!

  • I was just looking into this too! I have the britax b-agile as well and found the standing attachment at target (online) for around $70. I definitely plan to go that route because I feel she is getting too big for her umbrella but she doesn't like walking long distances...and carrying her won't be an option anymore! ;)
  • I have one and love it. It's the one that's attached to my bugaboo but they do make generic ones that attach to many different strollers.
