Pesticide experience?

We bought our townhome 2 years ago and we love it. However we recently discovered cockroaches in our kitchen coming from the shared wall. Uuggghhhh. We have literally done everything. Closed any possible openings, pulled out fridge, and stove and cleaned and DH did lots of boric acid stuff. But it didn't work. The people are coming to spray tomorrow and after I told them I'm pregnant they recommend that me and the kids are gone for 24 hours as opposed to the usual 3-4 that DH will be gone.
We have literally emptied the entire kitchen and put everything in the garage. So my question is if anyone has done this while pregnant? I'm just paranoid.

  • We also had a bug problem recently. Did they advise you to move everything into the garage? When we sprayed? We were only told to remove food, dishes and utensils. When you move things like appliances into another room, you may be moving the roaches into the other room. You may not see them in your appliances, because they will hide while moving stuff and then come out once things have settled. We were told to leave everything but the stuff mentioned because when they spray, it doesn't act immediately. They carry it back to their nest and touch the others and then it kills them. Instectisides that kill on contact are pointless because the problem are the bugs you can't see and can't spray. I did have a spraying done while pregnant, I stayed out for most of the day and had SO open the windows once they were done so  that it would air out before I came in.

Oh good! Glad you did the same. That makes me feel better!! We left the appliances in the kitchen. We pulled them out to clean behind them a few weeks ago but everything is where it should be. We emptied all plates cups utensils pots pans and pantry. Every single cabinet is empty and appliances are in their place still. I should mention that in emptying everything we never saw a single one. It's pretty mild but when I was using my dishwasher I noticed a few a day. Now that I don't use it and handwash all my dishes we see maybe 2 a week. But still too much for me so I hope the spray knocks them out for good.

Oh awesome! I hope it works for you. I know just how hard it is to get rid of them. I often told SO, "can we just blow up the house and start over?" He would laugh, but I wasn't fully joking lmao. When our neighbors moved, they fumigated and i guess they had a serious problem because it moved over to our house within a day or so.

I said "I'm moving" like 100x and DH got mad cause I was serious. Being a homeowner sucks sometimes. So embarrassing and I feel so dirty but in reality my house has never been cleaner. I went to the neighbor who shares the wall and she said they don't have a problem. But I supposed she could be lying ...

  • My husband is a pest control technician and he keeps our house up to date on things of that nature. The things they can legally spray aren't as dangerous as they once were, unless you're a bird or fish. He has to be careful around bird baths and fish ponds. To people and other mammals, the risk is very very low.
