Hi ladies. I'm in desperate need of some iron supplement help. I'm am 33 weeks and anemic. Dr. Put me on ferrous sulfate and then ferrous gluconate, I'm supposed to be taking two a day but even with the obscene amount of stool softeners and fiber I am taking I haven't used the bathroom in days with just one tablet. Which isn't raising my levels at all. I'm absolutely miserable. Is anyone taking an iron supplement that is non constipating and is raising their levels? I'm scheduled for c section November 21st and need my levels up by then. Please help!!
I'm anemic and they put me on just pure iron. I've been doing ok for the most part (I find if I eat something dairy it works magic on me). However, my doctor originally told me if I found constipation to be really bad to take Slow Fe (its a slow release iron). I tried regular iron first since this is pricey but if you're this miserable, it may be worth it!
I'm on ferruous sulfate and my doctor gave me a prescription for docusate sodium (100 my), a stool softener, at the same time. I took it for the first few weeks and it helped. Then my IBS flared up and I haven't needed it since.
If you want to stick to the natural stuff, try prune juice (cut with water otherwise it's sickly) or pear juice. Or you can always try a soft serve ice cream. That always clears me out.
I am not anemic, but my doctor told me my iron levels were low and recommended I take Feramax (https://www.feramax.com/). I took it without any stool softeners for a week and had to stop because I was so miserable. I told my doctor and she recommended taking the Feramax with a PEG stool softener and that stuff works wonders for me. The only thing is you can't take the iron and PEG within two hours of each other, so I take the iron with supper and the PEG I have to take at least two hours later in order to clear myself out effectively the next morning. And I just go once a day, it doesn't make me sick all day. Might be worth asking your doctor about?
