Is everyone in the storm's path taking the necessary precautions?
We're staying put and were able get some dry food, batteries and fill our cars up with gas. Almost everything is closed today.

The dumb thing is DH'S cousin is still getting married an hour away tonight at 6. Seriously, there is a hurricane. We are all supposed to drive an hour one way, sit for an hour, and drive an hour back? Not sure if DH will even be off in time to fight the traffic to get there.

Seriously though, best thoughts for all you ladies in the hot (wet?) zone. May your water, freak-out food and stockpiles of ice cream* be plentiful.
*if the power goes out that shizz is just gonna melt, so now's your excuse to eat all of it... and your neighbors'... and any they have in the store...

DH is still stuck working, because one stupid grocery store warehouse needs someone to help with not their backup generators, but their backup, backup generators. They decided to start this testing at 2:30 today. They didn't tell DH about this additional test they needed (which is extremely complex, requires multiple techs, etc) until 6 PM. So I guess he is just stuck there (and had to call in another guy too) until the weather gets too dicey, and they have to stop in the middle.
To top it off, the utility company decided it's a great idea to preemptively cut off the water at 8 PM tonight. So DH is going to get home at some point, and not even be able to shower, unless we drive across town to his parent's house who have a well.
It is barely even raining, and the wind isn't even above 35 yet... but we'll have no water, just because? Really? I'm sure it's to preserve the lines in case of bad issues or whatever, but it is still dumb.

Also since last update, we had to leave our house and hurriedly pack up and get to my family's house, because two more giant trees fell within sight of our front door, one took a power pole with it, live in the road. The other one blocked off another exit from our house. So we only had one open exit street left, and we decided to take it. As we were shoving things in the car, the neighbor's tree also came down in the front yard and barely missed the lines between our houses. It was an extremely stressful half hour. This was right after I posted the last round of pictures. Technically we could have stayed sans power, we had plenty of supplies, but I was too worried about getting trapped in the house by a live power line.
So now I'm wide awake on the couch and freaked about DH driving across town in the madness. I'm hoping you guys did some funny stuff to keep my mind off of it until I can sleep or he texts that he got there in one piece.
ETA: I fully realize that i'm being a big baby, and that we are in fact very blessed that no one in either of our families has been hurt so far by the storm. It has just been a long scary day, so please excuse me "dear diary" posting at you.
So far the tally is a tree on one brother's house/messing up roof, but nobody hurt thankfully. BIL's house has a tree down which tore up the sidewalk and is blocking a road in front of his house, and a second one touching his roof with a power pole in it at the back (not sure if any damage - they were in the house when that one came down and just left). As of the moment, we are not sure if we can get back to our house or if anything else fell - they are estimating Tuesday afternoon the earliest we'll have power back.
We we don't have any trees down but apparently no one here can drive in heavy rain. There has already been one vehicular death, an interstate accident that caused the power to go out in the town H works in, and I drove past two other accident scenes all since yesterday. Granted, it wasn't supposed to start raining/flooding until today and it started yesterday, but if you can't drive in rain then stay home!
As far as the house/family, we are all very blessed no one was injured. There are a ton of downed trees in our neighborhood, but thankfully thus far of 8 giant trees, only 1 hit a garage, and as far as we know no neighbors were injured either! As of last night we can actually get to our house again... previously 3 of 4 routes were blocked by downed trees or hanging power lines, and they had a police barrier across the last to stop people driving into said hanging live wires.
Our power is still out (this is day 3-ish?), and there are over 5 blown transformers and by my count 4+ lines down on our road alone, so it may be a bit yet (we are charging phones in the car as we can). We do have water running, so we can shower and flush and all that.
Thankfully, the hurricane left a cool snap in its wake so we are very comfortable with the windows open at night to sleep without the heat.
My brother's house did not fare so well, as he had a large tree fall and scrape the entire back - took out a fence, and scraped a huge amount of shingles off the roof, and caved in one of the eaves. So far it is not leaking into the house, but he can't get into the attic to tell if their is damage up there because it's unsafe while the tree is still raking the top of the house.
Thanks again for all of the well wishes and prayers, hopefully all will be back to somewhat normal soon!
