DS has started throwing toys. I just got hit in the face with a toy car and damn that hurt. I have been saying no, ouch, stop etc. and he is still doing it. I have been taking away whatever he is throwing and he just grabs and throws something else. Help! Anyone else dealing with this? What should I do. I don't I think he is ready for time out but I don't know what else to try.

Re: Throwing toys

  • Can you walk away from him when he does it? Maybe removing yourself from the situation will make him realize that people don't like to play with kids who throw toys.

  • When emery throws something I look at her sternly and say we don't throw. If you are frustrated talk. She will sometimes stop and sometimes throw again. If she does it again I take stuff away or we leave the situation and I try to distract her with something else. There is a tantrum involve in there 95% of the time.

  • I second the time outs. With mine I take her hand and say "no throw, Brooke", very sternly. Then I say "time out Brooke" and she knows she needs to sit in time out. This almost always causes a crying fit but she understands. We hug it out and reiterate that we don't throw toys/hit sister/pick stickers off her Disney dream castle/etc. it works well for us
  • If Ava throws something we make her pick it up and place it nicely back on the table, floor, etc, or give it to us. Usually she does, at least when my H asks her she does. It's hit or miss when I ask.
