Since I'm bored and nauseous tonight, I thought we'd have a little GTKY fun. So tell me, how did you and your SO meet? How long have you been together/married?

We met when we were both in (different) college. He lived in the same apartment building that I did and we, quite literally, ran into each other in the hallway. We'll have been together for ten years this November, married for five.

How fun! Hubby and I met in college, too. One of my roommates was dating a resident advisor in an all boys dorm, and she was always nervous to go over there by herself, so our other roommate and I would tag along. The other roommate and I ended up falling for two roommates on RA boyfriend's hallway, and we both married them 4 years later! The original couple didn't make it past freshman year lol. We've been together for 7 and married for 5.

Great question!!

We met on New Year's Eve. MH is my best friends cousin and he wanted to meet some of her nurse friends so she invited him to her party. We were all having fun, playing a drinking game and hanging out. We chatted but I thought he was into my friend so I was willing to let it go. After all I barely knew the guy. Well we went to a bar to watch the ball drop and when midnight came around all of our friends were at the bar, and we'd been talking a while. He kissed me at midnight and surprised the hell out of me! There were quite a few after that and then we may or may not have spent the night together at her house! That will be 4 years ago this NYE and we've been married just over 2.

MH and I met at the country bar that he works at. I know, typical "I met MH at a bar story." We were friends for 6 months before we started dating. We've been together for 5 years and married for 3.

DH and I are HS sweethearts! We met when I was the new girl in school junior year and he was asking around about me. He eventually asked for my number in the hallway and called me that night after I had had a bad day. We talked for hours but actually didn't start dating until the beginning of senior year a few mo. later since I had just gotten out of a relationship. We even got married 9 years later on our same dating anniversary! So our grand total is three years married but together for 12!

H and I formally met at a mall arcade; we were set up by mutual friends who were also a couple. We've been married for 10 years, and together almost 15.

We met in high school.  Had a little thing going, went on to make our own mistakes and sow wild oats.  Lo and behold we have been married 2 and a half months now : )

MH and I were introduced through my cousin, who was a friend of his. She set us up one night at a bar and we totally hit it off! We have been together for almost 3 and a half years and got married in May of this year (roughly 5 months ago).

My husband and I met on eHarmony. We met in person in October 2012, got engaged the following May and got married in October 2013. He was only the second date I went on from the site, and I joke that I was hoping to get a few more free meals out of the deal. Then my husband says I'm STILL getting the free meals.

DH and my BFF met in a random AOL chat room. I was a senior in HS, she was in college. After a few months, she introduced me to him in a private message because she really liked him and wanted my "approval". My first impression was that he was pretty cocky but I gave him a shot for her sake. Before I knew it, I was looking forward to talking to him and our conversations became more frequent and longer. My BFF picked up on the obvious chemistry in a three way chat. When I graduated HS, I flew out to visit her. He decided to fly out to us too (from another state). I resisted letting anything happen but she pushed me to just go for it. If it was meant to be, she didn't want to be the reason it didn't happen. Our dating anniversary is the day we met, over 11 years ago, and we have been married for nearly 4 years now. BFF was the maid of honor of our wedding

We met in student government at our community college. After a while of working on student government projects together we started hanging out outside of school, ordering pizza/doing homework, etc. At one point his roommate was moving out, and I was looking to move out of my parents' place. I became his new roommate for about about 2 months- then we started dating. We've been together and living together for 6 years now. We aren't married.

We actually met on MySpace hahaha. We had one mutual friend and he happened to come across my profile. He messaged me, and the rest is history. We've been together for 10 years, married for 8 and a half.

He sat behind me in a public speaking class Freshmen year of college.  I wasn't 100% sure of his name when we went on our first date, and accidentally introduced him to a friend by the wrong name.  It worked out.  We've been together 15 and married 10 years.

My husband and I met in middle school. We always hung out with the same group of friends but it wasn't until I graduated high school a semester early and we didn't get to see each other anymore that he finally asked me out on a date. We've now been together for almost 8 years and married for 3.

My husband and I met at a mutual friend's house and she was having a football kickoff party. We played catch and corn hole and hit it off. He waited a whole day to add me on Facebook, we went on a date a week later. We grew up in the same small town of 1400 people, but he is 7 years older than me so we had never crossed paths. After high school I became friends with some great people a bit older than me through where I worked, those are the friend's that went to school with DH and introduced us (finally)!
We dated for 9 months, then engaged for 11 months, and now we have been married for 1.5 years!

We met while working together at Applebee's. I was a junior in college and he was just got into OCS (Army). We started dating in January, we were engaged by March, and married in December. We will be married 5 years in December, but between training and deployment we haven't lived together that long. Haha.

We met Zumiez! Haha! We each worked at a different store and I was asked to go help out at his location. So I was his manager for the day! We became Facebook friends and would chat every now and again but didn't start dating until about a year later. We have been together 7 years now and married for 4!

DH and I shared mutual friends in high school (different schools). I performed at his high school during multicultural day my junior year (Tahitian dancing) and apparently I stood out to him. We would cross paths at parties the next couple of years and once me and a friend rode with him to a party out of town and I ended up driving us all home because he got too wasted, lol. Anyways, I went off to college and he moved out of town. We both ended up back in our hometown at the same time and saw each other at a party.  (We aren't party animals anymore... Just got it out of our systems early on, lol.) We started hanging out and have now been together for 13 years and married for 4 with a son that just turned 14 months. He's my best friend!

DH and I met on a dating website. We had the most awkward first date ever, and I didn't think I'd ever hear from him again. He called me a week later for a second date and the rest is history! Together for seven years, married for almost 2.

@bacorrea Isn't it crazy when you calculate out all the schooling/training/deployments how much time you've been together but not actually LIVED together?! People always think I'm crazy when I tell them the first year of marriage we only lived together 1 month (thanks deployment)!

DH and I grew up in the same town, but he is 4 years older than me. I was friends with his youngest sister and she introduced us when I was in college. We hit it off right away! He moved across the country a month after we started dating so we had to do the long distance thing right away. We've been married for 7 years now but between the endless amount of trainings and deployments (thank you military) the actual amount of time we've lived together is probably half!

I met my SO the week I moved into my last apartment. His cousin was my neighbor. He was on his way out of a bad relationship and asked him to come hang out one night to try and get him to move on... Didn't know any of that until about a week later lol. He was quiet when I first met him and didn't think anything of it until he kept going back to his cousins place. After about 3 weeks, he told me he wanted to just be friends. I found out through his cousin that he was actually trying to work things out with his ex!

About 3 months later I sent him a random text which resulted in him asking me out on a date the next night. He only told me recently that he never got back together with his ex, he was actually really nervous about liking me so quickly and got scared and backed away. He made up the story about his ex so his cousin would stop bothering him lol

October 11th will be our official 2 years!

I absolutely love everyone's stories!!  I'm a sucker for a good meeting story!  Mine's not super exciting, though. We met in college at church. We've been together 10years, married almost 5! I feel so old writing that!!

We met at a local bar in my hometown when I was home from college (I was actually underage with a fake ID and he is 6 years older than me! lol)  My husband's step-brother and I had mutual friends and one night MH came to the bar with his step-brother.  I saw him at the bar, asked friends who he was, and decided to just go on up and introduce myself!  The rest is history - together for 13 years and married for 8 years this November with one 3 year old daughter.

Fun! I met my husband sophomore year of high school. We were both on the high school debate team and had a weirdly teasing, brother/sister relationship at first. I had a boyfriend and I found my now husband to be immature and annoying. About half way through the year, the debate team took a trip to San Francisco for a tournament and we hung out/got to know each other better. Left the trip deciding to break up with my boyfriend and give this thing a shot. We lived the next few years of our lives graduating high school, going to different colleges (hoping it would work, but not forcing it to), and eventually got married! We've been together 17 years, married for 10.

SO and I met in a freshman history class in high school. I wasn't allowed to date so we stayed friends until April 1st of 11th grade. We have been married for 6 years. 

We should do proposal stories next.

I met DH a month or two after I graduated from college when I was still living on campus. He was my friend's roommate, a townie, and one night we all went out to the bars together where I met him the first time, and the night wound up just the two of us at breakfast at like 4 AM, we could not stop talking. We continued to hang out in that group setting for a while but would always end up talking together. Eventually a few months later we started dating. That was summer of 2000, and we got married Sept 2005.

My DH and I met from a super nerdy iPhone game! It was a war game with guilds who battle each other.  He was actually in a rival guild and mine was winning so our leaders decided to let some of his guild in.  I messaged him one day asking a question about something and we never stopped talking!  We met in person after having a text/phone call/skype relationship for about six months.  I moved to be with him about six months after that and a year later we were married!  We have been married about a year and a half.  When we first started talking I was just getting out of a very bad relationship and romance was the last thing on my mind!  Now he's my best friend and I sometimes forget how crazy it was that we ever even met the way we did!

DH and I met through his sister.  I was coaching tumbling at a cheerleading gym at the time with his sister, and she invited me to a Halloween party with her.  He showed up, I asked if I could talk to him, and she said yes.  We were "officially dating" two weeks later.  We've been together about six years and married for about a year and a half.

I also must say thank you to the wives/girlfriends/family members of members of the military! Thank you for supporting them & doing what you do!!

DH and I were in band together in high school but didn't officially meet until we had graduated (he's 2 years older than I am).  Our BFFs were dating and they introduced us.  We went to different colleges 2 hours apart but we had "dates" online and would IM each other all night.  It's crazy how much our paths crossed looking back..I had random photos of him with his ex-gf, and his parents had old video clips of me passing through during band concerts.  We've been together 15 years and married 10 this November.

I also want to add I think it is funny b/c you can tell how long people have been married based on their meeting stories.  For instance if they became Facebook friends, you know it was recent!  It's kinda fun to see how technology has changed the "dating world".

My DH and I met on a double date...except he was with my (crazy) roommate, and I was with another guy. It was a blind date that I was only going on to appease a mutual friend, so I roped my roommate into joining with a date. Luckily for me, DH had no interest in my roommate, and my blind date turned out to be a raging racist jerk! DH friended me on Facebook a few days later, and online Scrabble led to hanging out, which led to dating! We've been together 6 years, married 4

DH and I met through a mutual friend while in college, our schools were six hours apart so we only hung out while we were home. I wasn't originally attracted to him but our friend kept pushing it. I figured I would give it a  chance because I had nothing better going on. We were exclusive "friends with benefits" for 1.5 years before we officially dating. We dated two additional years before getting married. Our 7th wedding anniversary is on our first Doctor's appointment/ dating ultrasound! My DH drives my nuts most days but he really is my Prince Charming.

It's so fun to read these stories!

H and I worked together for a few years during high school, but we went to different schools and he was a few years older. We both apparently liked each other during that time, but were too shy to do anything about it. After I moved away to college, he would call me from time to time (even though he knew I was dating someone else) just to say hello, see how I was doing, and as he later put it, "keep his foot in the door." That spring, H called me on his birthday (when I causally slipped in the conversation that I was single), I called him on mine, and a month later when I came home for the summer, we started dating. I changed a lot over that school year and when he saw me again for the first time, he just knew--and said to himself, "I'm in trouble..." That was 10 years ago and we've been married for 2! He's the funniest person I know

We met through a friend he had "dated". The friend and I had known each other since elementary school. She and I didn't talk much but were friends on FB. She met my DH on a dating website. She was interested. He wanted to be friends. So she introduced him to me and it was instant. We've been together three years and married since May 29. I'm due on our one year anniversary.

Hi everyone, these are so much fun to read!   @slam1110 great comment about technology! My story takes place in an era before we lived with cell phones LOL.

My H was a year ahead of me in college and we'd never known each other while we were there, even though our circles overlapped with the same people. When I was a senior, he came back onto campus to visit friends, for St. Paddy's, so, of course, yeah, we met in a bar. Alcohol may have been involved. It was really late at night and I had gone up to the bar and bought two beers, turned around, and my friend was gone. Great, so I'm standing here with two cold ones, not wanting to pound them both, so I go up to the first guy I see and say "want a free beer?" so of course the answer was Yes. (My husband's side of the story is: "so here's this girl handing me a beer so I figure I might as well be nice to her and chat, at least until the beer's gone" LOL!) So we drunk chat about nothing and everything and it was great. The lights come up for closing time and I'm like "give me your email address" and he did but was super-dubious like "you'll never remember it" and I'm like, "I will, I promise!" Fast forward March, April, May, and he's back on campus visiting friends. I literally greet him (in another bar) with a loud spelled-out for everyone to hear "hello Mr. da-da-da-@ yahoo.com" and he smiles a huge smile at me (I remembered the addy correctly!). We chat for two minutes before being pulled away by groups of people and I was kind of pissed at our friends for doing that. He was even cuter than the first time! Forward to June, I've graduated, moved to the city he lived in, and started work, so I email him (still remembered it!) to have someone local to hang out with. We hang out a few times and our first real date went from like lunchtime on a Saturday until midnight: we just kept talking and it was a day that didn't want to sunset on us. I invited him to a family wedding that summer and when he said yes, I knew he was a keeper! That was 2001, we were married in 2003, so that's like 15 years we've been together! (I feel super old saying that!!) So, yeah, we met in a bar, and I wouldn't change a thing about it!!

My husband and I met on an internet dating site (he was my first and last date from there). On our first date, we met at a local art festival and ended up spending 10 hours together. We had both lunch and dinner and just walked around and talked for hours. We've been married just over 3 years, together for 6.

We met through eharmony. I had recently ended an engagement with my abusive ex 5 months before said wedding. A week after I joined eharmony, idk what compelled me to but I'm glad I did because my husband was my first match! We dated for a year and marriage wasn't even on my radar when he proposed. A year after that, we got married on my Grandparent's 62nd wedding anniversary. We've been together for 4 years now.

I met my husband in college 8 years ago. Long story short, my husband had a secret crush on my twin sister during his 1st semester in college, but he was afraid to approach her and that was the end of that. 3 years later my husband ran into me and he thought I was my twin sister. Then he secretly got my phone number from a mutual friend of ours and insisted that we get dinner and we did and it was history from there.
