Pregnancy Chatter & Randoms 9/26

Re: Pregnancy Chatter & Randoms 9/26

  • @pshaortao Half siblings does complicate it. I have one "full" sister (with blue eyes), so I added her as the sibling part. One of my half siblings has brown eyes and the other two have blue. Both of my stepparents have blue eyes. You could probably guess that his biological father had brown eyes since your husband does, but genetics can be more complicated than that. It is fun to play around with.

As of yesterday I now have daily pretty intense morning sickness. I've only thrown up once so far, but the constant nausea was making it impossible to focus on anything. Even my water was making me gag. BUT! I did a bunch of reading and if anyone is having similar problems, my best solution so far as been to put half a lemon in my water (24oz glass) and suck on an occasional peppermint candy. I know there is some talk about peppermint being bad to have during pregnancy, but from what i've read, it's the pure peppermint oil that they say to be wary of and that there isn't enough of that in the candies to cause any harm. And it works wonders so far!

Just an FYI in case anyone is suffering like i was!

  • I have a few questions for any moms that are team green or have been in the past...
Why did you decide to go green? Was your partner on board or did you have to talk them into it? If you've done it both ways, which did you prefer? did it change your experience of bonding with the baby before they were born?

I have ALWAYS wanted to be a mom and I've always dreamed of having a girl. I have my sweet girl now and am so excited for the next, but will be happy with either gender and feel like I might want to be surprised. I had a hard time bonding with her in my belly and thought it was special to already have her name and everything so I don't know if i'd feel disconnected if I couldn't pick out stuff or prepare for the next baby. I'm just not sure which way to go!

@jenshoes @h&p_momma @waitingforblueskies I am a first time mom at 8 weeks pregnant, with very few symptoms and I am also having major anxiety. Worst part is I won't get an ultrasound until December 12th!!!!! Seems so crazy that I have to wait that long.

I have an appointment with my family doctor next Friday at 9 weeks 6 days and I am praying that she will be able to hear the heart beat to give me a piece of mind.

    Two questions:
    1) how early did anyone hear their babys heartbeat on a Doppler?

    2) has anyone else noticed new facial hair??? I plucked a tiny black hair from my chin this morning, first time I have ever had a hair on my chin!! Could this be pregnancy related?

@amybee5, I haven't had my first prenatal appointment yet (I'm 7 weeks), so I can't help with that. For the second question, I have read that progesterone can increase facial hair growth. Specifically having higher/unbalanced amounts of it? Idk the science of it, but I do know that pregnant women are producing more hormones. I'd say it's probably related, but, obviously, ask your doctor if you are concerned.

edit- typo  :( again. Venting. I feel like I'm the only one not catching my typos until after I post! I DO read back over my posts. Idk whats going on.
  • @Amybee5 we were able to hear a faint heartbeat between 10 and 12 weeks with my last pregnancy with a home Doppler,  and 6 weeks with a transvaginal US.

  • @jkp7749 we were team pink the first time and team green this time. I have always told my husband that we would be team green for the last one. Since we don't know if we will financially be able to have a third, I told him this is our team green one. He wAnya to find out the gender, but is staying team green to appease me.

@h&p_momma I am obsessed with La Croix! I started drinking it to cut down on my soda intake before getting KU. Now I drink them to get my carbonation fix.
  • @achays11 Yes! It totally fills my carbonation fix! I wasn't really a big soda drinker but sometimes I just wanted something carbonated. This is my wine fix (let's be honest it's not even close but I needed something other than just water lol)
What's your favorite flavor? I really like the grapefruit one so far and the coconut!

Totally random- older daughter has a special doll she needs to sleep with and it's gone missing! I know it has to be in the house somewhere, because she had it at nap and we haven't been outside since!  Argh, sent her to bed without it and now I have to tear the house apart to find it :(.  I really just want to sit on the couch!!

Edited-  found it!!!  Wrapped up completely in a blanket, in the storage area at the bottom of the stroller. Because of course!
  • @h&p_momma I like the coconut too, but my favorite is the cran-raspberry. The berry one is good too. The cherry-lime and watermelon-kiwi are a little weird, but drinkable. I'm hesitant to buy an entire case of a new flavor in case I don't like it, but I can't find the liter bottles anywhere. I might have to try the grapefruit though if you say that it's good.
  • @jkp7749

I'm not familiar with the term team green. Assuming it means not finding out the sex?

I have humored my hubby 2 out of 4 times and not found out the sex. It was fun not finding out. An extra bonus to giving birth. Really meeting them for the first time and saying hello.

With my oldest I knew. I called him by name the entire 9 months and felt as close as close could be. Plus it was nice to have boy clothes and boy things.

The third time around the plan was for me to find out and not to tell the mr.  We had the ultra sound tech write the sex in a sealed envelope. That lasted about 4 days :)

The planner in me prefers finding out. I hope this helps.
  • @Squirtgun I know this struggle ours is a pink teddy bear. Glad you found the doll!
  • @achays11 I like the cran-raspberry too. I haven't tried any of those other flavors, I did try peach and it wasn't awful but not my favorite. I'm always hesitant to buy new flavors too. I like the grapefruit because it's tart (I like tart/sour flavors) and the most "flavorful" of all that I've tried. If you like grapefruit in general I suggest it!

  • This is definitely random, but also falls under pregnancy chatter too. I just switched to a gummy prenatal and after eating my first ones today I want to eat the entire container right now. They are so good. I'm probably gonna stock up on some sour patch kids to snack on now lol.
I've been looking for gummy prenatal everywhere and can't find them. I may have to resort to amazon.

I think i'll have to. My regular prenatal are making me super nauseous and my coworkers suggested I try the gummy ones. That's too bad they made things worse for you.

Do you take them in the morning or night? I have found that taking them at night has been the best for me, taking them in the morning made me more nauseous. I hope the gummy ones work for you!

  • @CherryBananas I bought mine on amazon and they're delicious. Plus they got shipped cold on an ice pack which now I have in my freezer - I have to bring my lunch a lot and don't always have a fridge so that was a plus for me!
  • @CherryBananas boo to the lack of Target. Did you have one when there were a few in canada before they shut down? My boss had so much fun going over to train a team so he was pretty bummed it couldn't last.

Perhaps they do deliver? They sell a lot of vitamins online and I love their regular prenatal pills! No nausea or anything with them

  • @ShadeofGreen816 that's a nice bonus!

@pshaortao I had a few that were close by. I liked going there, but a lot of people were disappointed with them. Some stuff was really expensive and people were hoping that the deals would be awesome like they are in the States. They also didn't carry the same brands here which I know bummed people out.

I'll see about ordering them online.  Sometimes that stuff can't get shipped across the boarder.

    *** STUCK IN THE BOX***
You have to avoid some things when bf'ing.  For instance, you want to avoid sudafed because it can dry you up.  But you get to eat most of the foods preganant women avoid (sushi, lunchmeat, etc.).  Kellymom.com has a great page on what you should avoid.

Yes to what @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot said. Also you may find that some stuff you eat will effect your baby (dairy), but this isn't always the case. Kelly mom is great!

Another vote for Kellymom! Great resource! I pretty much went back to eating everything normally but I will say that in the beginning when your nursing around the clock it's just easier to not drink alcohol. Everyone will have different opinions on what's safe, the amount of times between drinks, etc. For me, I was nursing every 2 hours, so unless I had milk I had pumped for my DD to drink, I was still avoiding alcohol (at least until her feedings were more consistent and further apart).

  • @starphish18 medicine is really the only thing other than alcohol you have to watch out for. Sudafed any thing like Sudafed can decrease your production but then there are others that will go into the milk then the baby
  • @Jkp7749 this will be my first baby and H and I are team green. We both have always felt this way and neither of our parents found out the sex of their children before they were born. I feel the sex of a baby is one of the true surprises in life. I'm excited to experience the surprise at birth, it will be awesome. However, I'm always excited for people when they choose to find out the sex of their baby because that's their choice and it's really exciting to know.
  • Just sitting here taking my 1hr Gluclose test. Killlllll me. I'm so bored. I've been trying to catch up with what I've missed. My two year old has been so defiant lately. I can't believe I'm going to have two kids.  :o
  • @jkp7749 I didn't want to find out with my first and my husband really wanted to know. After a lot of tears I finally won on the condition that we would find out with the next one. I really enjoyed not knowing and liked being able to stock up without having a ton of sports and trucks or hearts and butterflies.

Re gummy vitamins: just a weird thought but I was told not to take them last time because they don't have as much iron. The iron is what makes you sick usually but it's important. Maybe something about not putting iron in gummies because of the risk of poisoning kids if they accidentally get a bottle? Is that ringing a bell for anyone?

Yeah gummy vitamins don't usually have iron, so people may need to take an iron supplement. My nurse checked my iron levels and said for now I'm fine taking a gummy vitamin.
  • @starphish18 You do have to avoid some things still but not like when you are pregnant. You still shouldn't use any skin products with retinol in it, you can't take naproxen (Aleve) but you can take ibuprofen. Alcohol is tough to figure out until you are like maybe 6-8 weeks into bfing. I follow the 1 hour rule - If I have a beer, I can nurse my daughter 1 hour after I have the beer (but everyone is different so do some research and determine what you are comfortable with). I couldn't have caffeine or dairy for about 2-3 after DD was born as she had acid reflux and I wanted to remove anything that could bother her from my diet. Certain medicines - Always ask before you take anything if you can take it while breastfeeding as everything will pass to your child.
