Anyone familiar with things to do west of Boston? We're traveling by car (about a 9 hour drive from PA) the weekend of 9/24 and have decided to make it a long weekend/babymoon. We are staying @ a hotel in Burlington - close to the mall and restaurants. Waltham and surrounding areas are close. At this point, we do not have plans to enter the city for a variety of reasons. Honestly, my main goal is to get some good seafood, chowder & lobster roll. Any restaurant tips? Any tips on things to do/see or other general tips or advice?
Enjoy! Fall is usually a gorgeous time of year in New England! I used to live in Watertown and work in Bedford, so right near where you'll be visiting.
My favorite chowder is Legal Seafoods, even though they're now a chain. There's one at the Burlington mall. They have good seafood and lobster rolls too. That said, I miss ice cream and pizza the most from living in the Boston area. Bedford Farms Ice Cream is excellent with giant serving sizes.
One suggestion for an afternoon: start with gourmet pizza at Upper Crust in Lexington, then walk down the block to Rancatore's ice cream for dessert. While you're there, check out the Revolutionary War monuments and plaques in Lexington Center. Then either walk around the shops there or drive to (Thoreau's) Walden Pond to walk around outside.
