Early thoughts on baby names?

I'm a crazy person when it comes to names...takes me forever to commit and find one I love. Anyone out there already decided this early what they want to name their little poppy seeds?

Re: Early thoughts on baby names?

  • No and I'm almost dreading trying to come up with names. I love DD's name but it took awhile for us to commit to it. And boy names are really hard because my H seemed to have an association with every name I suggested so he nixed them all except Jackson (I know it's super-popular most places but not here). But DD's name starts with J and I really don't want this baby's name to start with the same letter. I figure I'll wait until we find out the baby's sex with the cell-free DNA testing before putting too much time and energy in to i t.

  • @jdebaie beautiful names!
  • We have had names picked out for a while now.  It took us so long to come up with them that we knew we'd have to start sooner.

  • We are set for a boy but sooo lost when it comes to girl names.  Last time we went in with 3 girl names and now none of them feel right.  I don't know if there is a girl names out there that I'm ever going to fall in love with.

  • We already have 2 boys and we're thinking about naming this one (if he's a boy) after my husband... not sure if you can do that with the 3rd or not but hubs really wants to and I don't feel strongly either way. If it's a girl, we're screwed bc I got nothing.
  • We have no clue for a boy but for a girl it's narrowed down to two Arabella grace and Katie rose
  • @MrsN092714, I hear you! It's SO hard for us to come up with girl names! I just really dislike most of them. They feel too flowery or too manly or too common. With our first (a boy), we tried to pick a name that was easy to spell, only had one form of pronunciation, would work for a variety of personality types/ages, and wasn't too common. We landed on Sullivan, and I still love the name. We have some other thoughts around boys but I'm totally lost on girls...

  • Claire if its a girl most likely I like ruth as well but I don't think my SO will be on board with that. We have a boy Nicholas and that took forever to agree on hoping this is not another boy just for that reason.

My husband and I are between 2 boy names and we are still going back and forth on girl names. Luckily we still have plenty of time
  • My favorite girl name is Charlotte but it would absolutely not work with our last name. I'm the opposite of @Kipperoo in that I like a lot of girl names so it's hard to narrow it down. Most boy names don't strike me or they just sound too trendy. I do really like Andrew but H struck that one during my last pregnancy so I'll have to see if he'll revisit it this time.

  • My oldest is Ella Grace, youngest Anna Jane - those are all family names. We have a lot of pretty family names to choose from, but none seem to feel right. Last pregnancy we had Nora, Alice and Charlotte on the table, but I don't know now.

My little one named the April baby Truck. So we never really had any names. I like Lee, it's a family name on both sides- but my husband doesn't. I really have no clue with boys. None at all.

  • We did family names with our first, which I love: Henriette Josephine
but don't love any boy family names. My husbands a Jr. And doesn't want to saddle that on his kid. For a girl, we're pretty set with Penelope (I have my degree in Classical Greek and he has Ph.D. in ancient philosophy.)
boy.... No clue. I like Rufus (of wainwright fame) nickname Roo, but maybe sounds too much like the family dog. August is a family name, but I'm not sure I'm on board with months. Thoughts on Rufus? I also like Roosevelt and Washington. (If you're sensing a theme, I just wrote a book for Nat geo kids about the us presidents and those are my favs and Washington is family name on my side).
  • @Klee_NC
i love Charlotte! Tried to go for that with my last but dh wasn't digging it. Love family names!
  • @jdebaie I love Dominic! That's my top choice, too. It's awesome that it happens to be your grandfather's name, too.
  • BriannaH333, I do like Rufus but it does kind of remind me of a dog. Mostly, I'm guessing, because I've never met a person named Rufus but have met a dog. :-) Love Henriette!

  • Oddly enough before we officially decided to try to have another baby we decided on a girl and boy name already. Now we just need to agree on middle names! I'm hoping that process is as easy as the first names.

  • Oh goodness. We have had names for all combos of children. We have one boy now, and just found out we are pregnant again. We are prepared for singletons, bg twins, or same gender twins. (Yes, we're a little nuts!)
  • I'm like you. I cannot commit! Haha! Right now we have 2 boys so we are really struggling for boy names. If it's a girl however, we will name her Juliana Grace.

  • We have a girls name picked, but can't seem to agree on a boys name. Luckily we have plenty of time to hash it out :)
  • We had such a hard time deciding on names for our first two girls. Named them as we walked out of the hospital! But we already decided on names this time. If it's a girl, she will be Emilia, nickname Emi. If it's a boy, he will be named after my h.

  • DD is Charlotte. Husband hates talking names but he brought up Enoch (biblical prophet) as a middle name if we're having a son so that's likely what we will go with. First name will be the same as my husbands since it's a family tradition.. Not sure if we would call him by his first or middle name  If we're having another daughter she will be Lucy, Jane, or Veda. I think Lucy is my favorite! No idea on girl middle names though.
  • My husband likes Eli for a boy, I think I like that. My son didn't have a name until two days after he was delivered. So hopefully we can know sooner!!

I love the name Zoey for a girl, but we know a ton of Zoey's. I am a teacher, therefore I have all sorts of bad name associations with names. It's so difficult!!

My husband and I both like old names.
I ran across the name Merritt for a girl's name and it sounds pretty and a little different. Who knows. We are the most indecisive people ever!!!
  • For a boy we like Lane (haven't decided on a middle name). If it's a girl, the middle name will be Joy (after DH's mom that passed away) but we haven't decided on a first name.

Our boy name list has 2 names.  Lane is one of them!  I love it but think I'm leaning a little more towards George at the moment.

  • We have our girl name picked out already, we have since I was pregnant with our son. We'll probably argue over boy names until their born if they are a boy though. The picture I attached has the boy names I like. My favourite is Oliver & I also like Elliot but my fiancé has already denied that one.

  • Brent Richard for a boy
    Haleigh Anne for a girl
  • Boy will possibly be Rhett Alfred.
Girl might be Eve, Ivy, Holly or Georgia. Possible middle name is Patricia. Both middle names are family names.
  • We have the crazy names. DS is Johnny Danger, if we have another boy he will be Max Power and a girl Charlotte (Charley) Jane.
  • DH and I haven't talked about it yet, but during my daydreaming ( :) )I've been partial to Julia Claire for a girl and Noah for a boy (no middle name ideas yet for a boy).

  • This thread made me start thinking more about names. I even caught H looking up baby names this weekend but he said he didn't see anything that grabbed him yet. My current favorite boy name is Owen (I think it pairs well with Julia, DD's name) but I am still completely lost on a girl name.

  • I have a 1yr old Riley Quinn

If we have another girl, I'm in trouble. No names in mind.

For a boy it will be Declan or Killian
  • We love way too many names. We could name a whole city of girls, but have fewer boy names. the problem is our last name is extremely german and very long so all the names I love, tend to clash with it. We named our daughter Violet Paige.

Some of my favorites are  Ophelia, Eloise, Maxine, Camelia, Penelope, Nora
and for a boy: Harvey, Ralph, Humphrey, and Crosby.

But what middle names go with any of those boy names?
