@dmontgo. I've heard you mention sciatica a few times now and I don't remember if yours is a true diagnosis or a guess. But I thought it worth mentioning that sciatica is often misdiagnosed in pregnancy. Only about 1% actually have sciatica, the rest have pelvic girdle pain to some degree. It's important because the exercises that make sciatica better will actually make PGP worse. I only bring this up because I'm in agony with PGP, but this time around I know the beast I am dealing with so it seems more manageable vs how helpless I felt last go around.
@zubenescamali I have diagnosed sciatica from a previous sports injury. It never went away, but was manageable by going to the chiropractor and exercising. It feels better as I walk around with good shoes, but there are times when my body is like...no.
Wouldn't be surprised if there is some PGP mixed in there, though.
@Christinaruth74 can you explain Cheeseburger Vag to me? Because...I'm having some issues I've posted about elsewhere and I wonder if its what you are tlaking about and its normal and I should stop complaining, haha.
I'm late to this discussion I think, but to the raw butt cheeks: I use zincofax for my thighs *no gap here lol* on bad days...but then I smell like a baby's butt....
@dmontgo what about a Segway? Lol or a motorized reclining chair for comfort ? lol
OMG. I'm gonna share this because even though I knew it and know it, every time I do it I'm like... whoa this is amazing. Swimming helps SO MUCH in relieving some join pain... like hips, back, pelvis. You get in the water and release so much of that weight and then stretch out into a stroke. So good.
I've been swimming 1-2 times/week and every time it's like I'm rediscovering this amazing secret.
@slartybartfast I was sooooo looking forward to a friend's pool this summer. Wouldn't you know this is the one summer in a WHILE they've not had as many get-togethers?
My pelvis/tailbone feels...unhappy. Sometimes when I lean back and weight puts pressure on my hips it feels like it wants to snap. Fun times. Whether it's PGP or sciatica last night my right hip was killing me sometimes shooting pain down to my calf. Tried all kinds of creative positions to ease the pressure, finally found one, and got to sleep. The next three months are going to be interesting to say the least.
On a fun note, last night I felt Eaton kicking about two or three inches above my belly button. It was making my tummy jump (a first for us) and DH right next to me for once so I got to grab his hand and share the moment with him. This is the highest I've felt him, previously I've never felt him higher up than my belly button (my body is all torso) so this was pretty cool for me.

I can't swim took lessons as a kid but somewhere between age 6 and 10 I forgot how to hold my breath under water. I can tread and float, but nothing that will substantially save my life if I fell overboard or something. I also have no desire to learn. I really like to breathe unimpeded.
@zubenescamali I am a survival swimmer (meaning no can't do much more than survive haha) but I've been doing a prenatal swim class where we meet in a pool that is 3 feet to 4 feet deep (where kids learn to swim) and we just jog, do squats, use boogie boards to flutter kick around, etc. It's super relaxed but gives a great workout that is low impact. Maybe your local pool offers something like that?
The top of my bump...hurts. Like it feels like I pulled an ab muscle with sharp pain...but I've been really careful about not using my core to get up so I lessen any diastasis recti. It randomly started hurting around 2:30pm, and hasn't stopped. I don't feel twitching, so I'm not sure if it's Braxton Hicks or not. Maybe it's gas? I dunno but it is uncomfortable.

Anyone experience this before?
I've not had pain that I would describe exactly like that but diastasis recti split starts around your belly button so it doesn't sound like that. Could it be heartburn?
@slartybartfast I'm on Zantac, so I'm not sure it's heartburn. I haven't felt this particular pain since becoming pregnant. I called the on-call hotline and left a message, but haven't heard a response yet.
I don't think it's something terribly wrong (I hope not, anyway), but it is uncomfortable and I'd rather call and ask than ignore it. If it's not better tomorrow I will go to the doctor.
@dmontgo I've had something that sounds similar for a while. It's kind of a soreness up high on my bump, like right up next to/on my ribs. Mine gets the most sore when I sit upright for long periods of time (like working). I've chalked using new muscle groups as my posture/center of gravity change. But mines never really been a sharp pain so we may be experiencing different things.
@dmontgo BH would make your entire belly (or however large your uterus is currently [for me it's the whole shebang]) tight and 'hard' to the touch for a period of time. Doesn't sound like BH to me. I hurt myself rolling over in bed last night. This is what my life has come to.... I'm injured from rolling over. Is it late October yet?
@dmontgo Could Ashton be hanging out up around your ribs? Rhett does that all the time, he'll get himself lodged in there nice and tight for hours and it hurts like nothing else. It even hurts to lay on my side when he gets in that position, and it hurts to the touch.
@dmontgo I am feeling a very similar sensation. I've wondered if it's trapped gas, "trapped" Oliver, I don't really know either. Update us once you get a call back?
So, I happened to run into a nurse who had a newborn baby and a toddler and works at the hospital I'm delivering at--we were in the same beverage place. We started talking and I figured it was a long shot, but I asked her what she thought. She said for her she started getting Braxton Hicks in the same spot before they started taking over her whole belly. She said it's the uterus and muscles stretching out, and can cause discomfort as they practice for labor if you're carrying high. I know she's not my doctor, but I'm glad I could ask her. She had some great info on mommy and me groups around here, and gave me her card to contact her with any questions I have.
My doctor happened to be on call and phoned me--I described my pain and what's going on, that otherwise I feel ok, it's just been going on since 2:30pm and it stings/sharp pain. He scheduled me to come in tomorrow at 12pm, but said if it gets worse to go to the ER.
I don't think it's anything super serious--it's probably Ashton chilling in a new spot and his little feet are tap dancing on my riblets, but I have to go in every week anyway...might as well check and make sure. It sucks though because it is not comfortable.
@dmontgo what good luck to have run into her. The BH idea is interesting. I keep waiting to KNOW what I feel are BH contractions but really I don't know. What you describe is somewhat of the sensation (a tight, uncomfortable feeling, like a ball is trying to push out from the area) but it's not belly-wide. Only one spot.
Man. All of this is confusing. Hope your visit tomorrow goes well and uneventfully!
@swhiddon33 It is confusing. Pregnancy is confusing. My pain has moved, but still has the same intensity. It's not unbearable but feels like I have pulled a muscle...just now in a different spot lower on my stomach. I don't feel Ashton kicking, so I have zero clues. DH has me propped up on the couch with water so I can rest.
Watch, my OB will be like, "Congratulations, it's GAS." NOOOOOOO!
Pregnancy is confusing. Agreed. For something I evolved to do - like literally the key piece of a species: procreation - every part of it feels unnatural to me. I know it doesn't to every woman and some women are life creating goddesses. I'm over here just like...
@slartybartfast My friend just told me that last week she thought she was seriously going into labor---but then it turned out she just needed to poop (she's 36 weeks).

Pregnancy is so glamorous.
It's one of the reasons this board is so awesome (and that I'm on it all the time)... I can't imagine how the heck I would make it through these 40 weeks without hearing some of the stuff those a few weeks ahead are encountering and commiserate about the 10,000 symptoms!

Was just talking about this with the girls at work!! Humans are seriously terrible at this....
@dmontgo i was going to ask if you bumped your bump or anything like that (my stomach was sore similar to what u described just from an (long) ultrasound)but now that yours has moved, that doesn't make sense....I've definitely gotten half-bump BH, but not lasting hours.... hopefully it's just baby giving you some old fashioned worry-for-nothing!
@Toller I don't think I hit my bump on anything--it started hurting randomly while I was resting on the couch. I'm lying on my side in bed now, and that has helped. Pretty sure I'm going to go to the doctor tomorrow and he's gonna be like
YOU FOOL!
He's not mean, but I'm sure I'm going to have that feeling of embarrassment when he tells me I'm normal, I'm not dying, that will be $50 thanx. Haha
@dmontgo I'm going to throw this out there... With DD2, around this time, she moved so that her head was down, and her butt was against my belly button. She would push with her legs, so that her butt pushed against the top of my uterus and also against my belly button, and holy hell, it was a sharp pain between belly button and top of uterus. I had a herniated belly button at that point already, at 5 months I was in bed, reaching for something on my nightstand and I sneezed= herniated belly button. But I'm sure I also had the spilt stomach muscles too. It could be something similar, it could also be Braxton hicks, mine hurt. They hurt with my 1st also from about this point on in the pregnancy. Especially with DD2 and the messed up tummy muscles. But I am not a doctor, sigh, wish I was! Mostly for the money, and knowledge, not anything else. Lol
@yellingbanana Did you feel her kick up that high, or did you just feel pain? I feel him moving right now, but in the same spot he's always in. My upper tummy still hurts--The pain seemed to move last night, but now my upper stomach still hurts like something happened to it wah. I probably did strain it and didn't realize it...not sure because I was on the couch resting when I noticed the ouchies.
Well, I head to my OB today...maybe he has some answers.
@dmontgo I actually went in to labor and delivery because I was having similar pain (hardness/pressure and some pain) and thought maybe I was having contractions (I'm also having issues with my cervix shortening and funneling so I'm kinda on edge with everything). They told me it was probably Baby pushing on my belly, like her back or butt or head just pushing on me (rather that the sharp kicks or sliding around that I was used to feeling). Maybe that's what you're feeling? That might explain why it was in one spot and now is in another spot on your bump. Hope your doctor has some answers!
@dmontgo If you still have a gallbladder, it could be gallstones. Although that's usually worse after eating, it can also cause just random bouts of sharp or achy pains. I know gallstones are pretty common during pregnancy.
@dmontgo I didn't feel her kick up that high, it seemed to be the constant pressure from her butt pushing against the top/front of my belly. Her feet were usually against my back or on the side. And in pretty sure she was trying to punch a hole through my cervix, that was more like month 7/8 though. Nothing but fun times ahead.
Went to the doctor, and my tummy was starting to hurt from the top to the middle, but worse.
They did some motion tests, asked me standard questions, and nothing is herniated, but I pulled the hell out of a muscle. They felt around and Ashton isn't quite high enough to be kicking me way up on top yet. I don't know how it happened, but she said that I need a support band from now on because my frame isn't used to the weight all in my belly. I'm not technically on bed rest, but I can't lift things, bend down, etc for at least til Monday. Just have to sit and rest.
My tummy is so sore. Any recommendations for a good support belt?
@yellingbanana I have been eyeing the Blanqui for a while...I think it's time to invest. This is the heaviest I've ever been so far, and I think my body is just freaking out. I just wish it could freak out without the ouchies.
I called L&D yesterday evening because I was experiencing what felt like previous labours but without consistent contractions. I had extreme pressure in my crotch and was super unsettled. I couldn't sit still, had to pace while holding a bag of frozen corn between my legs. The triage nurse asked if I sat/stood for hours a day, which of course I do. She told me to use a mirror to check out the situation down below and see if there was any swelling or, omg, varicose veins. I checked and almost passed out. Kai is lying in a way that is restricting blood flow to my lower body, so it gets trapped. Now I'm supposed to lie down as much as possible and "elevate my vagina" as she put it. Super...three kids and I work full-time and I'm supposed to keep my junk up. At least we don't have an 18 month gestation like elephants. #pregnancyisglamourous
@JessCL oy....if I do one of the "head down " spinning babies moves, I get a great pee right after-like before time, not that drizzle out business.....maybe something like that could help?? (The one I did you do on stairs- have a spotter cuz holy blood rush to the head, but it did move the babies off the area for a bit!!)
