Prenatal vitamins

Hi ladies. I don't post much but I have a question. My gag reflex is bad right now and I dread taking my vitamin everyday because it is huge! Does anyone have recommendations for smaller pills? I've tried the gummies, but I struggle with the taste for some reason.

Re: Prenatal vitamins

  • Every prenatal I have seen is huge, maybe you could try getting a pill cutter and cut it in half, then just take 1/2 at a time.

  • Vita Pearl! It's Rx, but tiny, no taste, and I don't get "Vitamin B burps" the way I have with others, especially if I take it at night.

  • I don't have a recommendation for a smaller pill, but the only way I've found to take them with minimal gagging is to take them with a really, really thick juice (naked juice is my current go to) to try to hide the pill.

I got some cheap ones at Wal-Mart that aren't al that big. It's a yellow labeled bottle. And I take them with pineapple juice.
  • You could always try the gummies. I haven't tried them, so no idea on the taste. But, I used to take just a general vitamin that was a gummie and I loved them!
  • Vitafol is pretty small compared to other vitamins too. RX also

  • Just don't take them with OJ. Insta-puke
  • The Kroger brand prenatals gummys are raspberry lemonade flavor and are delicious!
  • I've been taking the gummy ones because I can't handle the huge pills.

I like PPs suggestion of cutting them in half and taking them separately.

  • I physically can't swallow big pills and take the target chewable prenatals. I've been on them for like almost 4 years and I just now started to hate them and search for other ones. The smartypants ones are disgusting.
  • You could try cutting them but personally I always found that worse b/c then they are kind of a strange shape plus now that there's a side without the outer coating so I could taste the pill and it was gross and made me gag. I'd try experimenting with what you are taking them with (ie try juice or milk or something besides water if you are using water). You could also try other brands. I take the target brand prenatal and while it's not a small pill it's significantly smaller than the calcium pills I have to take. You might also want to try switching the time of day you take them if possible. Brushing my teeth makes me gag and dry heave so when I try to take those big pills right after it's not good so I try to wait a bit after or take them before if I'm confident I'm not going to throw up just gag.

  • Mine made me sick no matter when or with what I took them. My perinatologist told me that I could take two Flintstones vitamins instead. They still tear my stomach up, but it's better. And they make them with iron.

  • Thanks for the ideas! Maybe I'll try a different brand of gummies. I also like the Flintstones vitamins idea!
  • I second the Vitapearl recommendation. They are gel caps and super easy to swallow. I used to only do Gummi es too, but these have been great so far.
  • i take the garden of life raw prenatal bc it's a 3 smallish powder filled capsules, not 1 big hard thing. They are expensive as hell though.
  • OP is banned?
  • (This entire post made me gaggy)

I take 2 Flintstones when I can remember them.   I can't stand the others, and can barely take my other meds due to the gagging.  Good times.

It's gotta be random, right? OP if you message @BumpAdmin they'll fix it for you. Assuming it was random, of course.
  • Yeah, @BumpAdmin this OP only has a few comments. Any chance she was banned by mistake and you could unban her?

co-sign @Eveinshock I love Garden of Life prenatals. supposedly derived from all natural sources as well. you can also break open the capsules and blend them in a juice or smoothie.

  • I just realized my pnv don't have iron in them. They should, right? Walgreens brand gummie.
  • My doctor prescribed me prenate minis, they're expensive out of pocket, but they are the size of an Advil and I haven't had any problems with them.
  • @ljoyw_27 My midwife said normal prenatals do but for some reason they haven't figured out how to get iron into the gummies. She said I was still ok to take the gummies since my iron levels were fine, but if I was worried I could switch to Flinstones vitamins instead
  • @ljoyw_27 don't take iron unless you need it.
  • So the ban was some sort of mistake...not sure what happened. Thanks for the answers ladies!
