Update on quads

Today we had our follow up ultrasound.  Today we heard 4 strong heartbeats and all 4 babies are measuring on track. My husband and I are still in shock and disbelief. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers...they worked! We are still very early only 7 weeks so we aren't out of the clear yet but will continue to have weekly ultrasounds and I will continue to keep you all posted!

Wow!!! Congratulations!!! What a wonderful appointment that must have been. I can't even imagine how excited/overwhelmed you must feel right now! Have they given you a due date adjustment because of multiples? Just curious.

Congrats on the good news!  

Per the Welcome I've linked you to previously, please do not create additional individual update threads.  While your situation is unusual, every pregnancy is different and as time goes on we will see more uncommon situations come up - women with GD, preeclampsia, or other health concerns, babies with health concerns such as a chromosomal disorder or congenital malformations, single or polyamorous mothers, women choosing extreme attachment parenting or night nurses and daycare, etc etc etc.  If everybody with an uncommon situation created their own threads specific only to themselves, the board would become a cluttered mess and nobody would actually engage with each other beyond the basic well-wishes seen in threads like this.  

Because of this, we ask that new threads are only created if they attempt to actively engage the community at large (an exception being loss threads).  Things like the Teachers thread, Pregnancy Snacks, and the Things I Bought/Things To Buy (which got promoted to a weekly thread) are great examples of topics that encourage conversation and advice.

We have also lots of regular weekly threads in which to participate with the community, both giving and receiving support.  These range from off-topic chatter and get to know you questions to weekly doctor and symptom check-ins and more.  Now that we're starting to get our ultrasounds, we will likely have a Multiples Check-in starting soon (I've seen one set of confirmed twins from a regular member and we may get a few more).  Threads like these encourage conversations and building relationships, which helps build community.

@TheJerilu Maybe we should start a multiples thread because I had no idea anyone was expecting twins until I searched for it. I don't read all of the weekly ticker changes

pinkshades05 There is a multiples thread that is supposed to be posted. Usually this is done by a multiples member and unfortunately no one has stepped up to start it yet. This would be a great opportunity for someone to working forward.

This is the literal definition of an AW poster.

Click on her name and look at her post history.  She has started five threads in two different BMB and the multiples board announcing and updating about being a quad mom.  She has made a total of 3 replies, two of which were to her own threads and one was to the March BMB multiples check-in.  There are NO OTHER POSTS in her history at this time.

Even if I don't respond to all of the threads, I read almost every one here (I have a lot of downtime at my job) and am at least familiar with your names if not a bit of your personality.  I've seen y'all give support and answers.  Even if there are details we disagree on, you seem like good, caring folks and that's what makes this community thrive.

I have ZERO patience for people who take advantage of women I care about.  Somebody who comes in with a "look at me" attitude and doesn't give back to the community is taking advantage of us.  If she starts getting into the other threads and actually giving back, great!  There's a contributing poster that has a similar thread about her discovery of multiples - notice that I didn't call her out because I actually recognize her from other threads.  Contrary to what people may think of me, I actually am of the mindset that the more regular contributing members we have, the better - I just like organization which is why I try to guide people to existing resources when I can.  That's why I guided her to our other threads - I didn't tell her to gtfo.  OP is welcome to come here and engage with us and give support to the other awesome women here who have their own journeys to trek.

Unfortunately, I bet you a nickel OP shows up in a few days without responding in any other threads with another "update" post.

That is way harsh. She just found out she is having quads! If someone is the "literal definition" of an AW poster (not sure if that's in Webster's...), their true colors will show eventually. Just because she's new doesn't mean she doesn't deserve respect and compassion. Give people a chance, FFS.

However, I don't agree it's harsh.  Look at @ccook1211's discussion to reply ratio - 5 discussions and only 3 replies, and as @thejerilu pointed out, only 1 of those replies was in a thread other than her own, and even then, it was a check in.  Of course, let's encourage her to participate! So far though, she has just been a drive by poster.  

@tinkerbell413 You can see from that long discussion that I am all about people starting threads.  I think I was one of the main people arguing for that.  However, I don't think that's what's going on here.  I sincerely hope that @ccook1211 becomes part of the community, but right now she's just someone who entered a room and yelled a bunch of information about herself, and then peaced out again.

I don't think it's cool to do that, and if you don't TELL people it's not cool, and encourage them to participate, how will they know?

I completely agree with encouraging people to participate and to call them on being AWish if necessary. Just thought it was harsh.

I agree with @hollyh98. Believe me, I don't want a bunch of AW posts either. BUT we are all new here! Let's give people a bit of a chance. Some people do not have the opportunity to post at work, and there is a lot to respond to. I don't respond to every thread either, but that doesn't mean that I don't read them and agree with things people have said. 

Another note, I just don't see the point in looking up someone's history to see how much they've commented. If you don't like that someone isn't posting "enough", then don't return the favour of commenting on their post. She came here for support, not judgment. Everyone deserves a chance. And not everyone is used to the boards yet. I think it's just a bit too early to be seeing how "active" members are.

@TheJerilu And I'm sorry but I don't have time to debate this. So I'm not going to participate in this conversation. I thought we already had come to a reasonable decision in another post. I'm not here to start/participate in any drama. I'm here for support and community. So I'll just keep my opinions to myself and participate in the threads as I see fit.

Sorry, but this is an AW post, and now the second one from this poster on this topic, and makes zero effort to engage the rest of the community beyond waiting for everyone to wish her well.  I gave the first one a pass as I can understand being shocked and excited, but now it's time to act like community member.  It's a board, not a personal blog.   And FWIW I was under the impression in the big discussion of this type of board etiquette that the point we arrived at was start all the new threads you want, as long as they encourage discussion in the community.   

Starting a multiples thread that allows moms of multiples to engage in discussion would be a much better option next time OP.

Personally, I enjoy seeing these updates. I will look forward to the multiples discussion thread for April moms-to-be. I don't think we need to ride the high horse in to save the community from impending doom from someone who is expecting QUADRUPLETS!! 

If you want a community, act like one. Instead of tearing people down. I see that this community has more humble users than it did 5 and 10 years ago But the drama is still here, sadly. Confrontation is a good and necessary thing, but it can be done constructively

I'm going to have to agree that this is a complete AW post.  I would bet money that even if a Mom of Multiples thread were started, OP would continue to post her own updates and not come back to join the discussion.  Maybe posts like these aren't irritating to those who have been gone from TB or are completely new, but to those of us who have been around for a long time it's frustrating because we've seen this time and time again on TTGP and other boards.  Posters who only show up to update on themselves and couldn't care less about the rest of us really grind my gears and I know I'm not the only one.
