Let's Talk about Simone

I can't be the only one incredibly inspired by Simone Manuel and Simone Biles at the Olympics this year, so much so to be debating it as a name for our LO! How much do you think it will jump the charts in the next 2 years? Here are its SSA ranks since 76.

  • No idea, but it's a lovely name!

  • Since it's been trending down, I think it might make a small jump into the high/mid 700's and will probably continue to trend down the following year.

  • I honestly don't see Simone as a name that will ever be super popular. It's a name that is unique but everyone knows it. It's moved around the charts but never in huge jumps year after year and tends to hover in the not common area. I truly don't think the olympics will make this name jump in popularity. I would be surprised if it went below 500 anytime soon. It's just not a name that follows current trends right now. It's a solid choice!

  • If it makes you feel better, even if it rises a whopping 200 spots because people are inspired by the athletes competing in the 2016 games, it will still be well below the top 100.  So, what does that equate to in real life?

My daughter's name is similar to Simone, in that it's a name you'd know and recognize if you heard it, but it's below 500 on the SSA lists and trending down.  In her 16 years of life, she's met ONE other person with the same name, and that was another shopper in TJMaxx.

My son's name is much more popular.  It's in the lower half of the top 100 -- around the 70s.  You would think that would make a difference, but it doesn't.  He was the only kid in his elementary school with his name.  He knows one other kid through sports with his name, but that's it.

I think once you're below 50 on the SSA list, you're into "not too common" territory.

I am not super concerned about it being too popular, that is one of the last things affecting my decision about *this* name. I am just genuinely curious about it! Look at the crazy Madison spike from Splash, and Diego in the 2000's thanks to Dora. Or Arya, not even on the charts in 2009, was #201 in 2015 and expected to rise! I just find these trends fascinating.

  • I was also thinking Simone is such a pretty name!!!!
  • I think it's a great name - pretty, unique and with inspirational stories behind it. I see it rising a little in the next few months but it won't become the next Isabella or Olivia.
  • I prefer it for a middle name.
