Bed rest at 27 weeks

So last week Wednesday I had an appointment to check on my high blood pressure. I got 4 tests done and the nurse was going to call me that evening before we left for South Carolina for our babymoon. She called with three results back and all came back good and she sent us on our way. The next day we were at our hotel for maybe a half hour, I had just ordered a virgin Pina colada and the nurse called and told me to get to a hospital right away because I have protein in my urine. So off we go to a hospital for 24 hours where they gave me steroids to develop the babies lungs in case I had to deliver. Needless to say I was freaking. Out. I talked to my doctor and she wanted us to come home so we changed our flights and are now back home. My blood work has stayed stable which is good, blood pressure is ok, and the protein in my urine went up 200 in 24 hours.
I did another urine test and the lab messed up the results so I'm doing another one now. Is this real life?! I saw the high risk doctor yesterday and baby is 2 pounds 8 oz and looks great. I'm on strict bed rest and my doctor is hoping I reach 32 weeks. I'm hoping that being in this bed rest will help the protein in my urine from increasing.
Now dealing with long term disability, not returning to school at the beginning of the year, and sitting on my couch. As long as baby and I are ok I'm fine it's just crazy that this is something you never expect or think will happen.
Is anyone else on bed rest? Ah!

Re: Bed rest at 27 weeks

  • Wow, that sounds stressful! Sorry you're dealing with that and hope that baby stays in a long time more. Good for you for listening to your doctor even though it meant coming home from your babymoon. I hope the labs stop messing up the urine tests for you. Hoping for a good update soon.

Hopefully babe stays where he/she is for longer.

That would be a huge surprise being put on bed rest!

    Is this your first child?

Edit: bed rest, not bestest. Thanks autocorrect.
  • That SUCKS! What a stressful situation but thank goodness your doctor caught it early and you can do everything possible to prevent early labor. I have my fingers crossed for you girl. You can do it!
  • That is stressful!!  Fingers crossed that baby stays put as long as possible!!

  • Ugh that sucks, glad they were able to catch it in time. Im actually on day 2 in the hospital at 26 weeks due to a short cervix. Im pretty sure if im released tomorrow I'll be put on bed rest.

At my 20 week ultrasound I was told my cervix was short. A day later I was seen by a specialist and was told my cervix was NOT short. A month later at a follow up was told YES it is short and was admitted.

It is stressful because I feel I still have so much to do to prepare for baby, but Im going to relax and take it easy so the lil guy will hopefully stay put for a few more weeks.
  • Thanks everyone for the positivity! It sure has been crazy but am thankful for catching it early and just taking bed rest seriously and hoping for good news from the doctor tomorrow. @jmama1611yes it is my first baby, baby boy! @tabbypatty I'm sending good vibes your way! Can be so frustrating when you hear different things from different doctors! Keep us posted and if you are on bedrest I recommend a good adult coloring book. Hoping our babies stay nice and cozy for a few more weeks!

  • @tabbypatty Me too. Only I had to have a cerclage at 22w. If you ladies need any ideas, or have any, on how to pass the time I'm here with you.

  • I'm currently on bed rest at the hospital. I've been here almost 5 weeks. Went in for a sono at 22 weeks and 5 days and found I had a short cervix and I was 3cm dilated. I had no idea! We were supposed to go to Maui a couple of days later for our babymoon! Got send to the hospital immediately and had a cerclage put in. Hopefully going home Monday (I'll be 28 weeks) after they recheck everything! Wish you ladies and your baby the best of luck!
  • Thanx for the well wishes everyone. I should find out later today if i get to go home. @mcpd16 that sucks about your trip but glad they found it and got it taken care of. We were planning a baby moon to Colorado ( not as exciting as Maui) which we had to cancel too. Hopefully you are released monday.

@anne11716 @Kate08Young it's going on day 3 in hospital for me. Yesterday was pretty boring but I passed my time by creating a baby registry on Amazon and watching dvd's the hospital rents out. Once Im home I'll probably binge watch tons of Netflix shows, online shopping, reading, and playing PS4 games, because I am a nerd.lol
  • We will get through it together!

  • How scary! And wtf with the messed up test results I hope they get it all figured out soon for you. I have been on bedrest since 14-15weeks I finally was moved to modified bedrest at my 25w appt but thanks to contractions I'm mostly stuck laying in bed looking for things for the baby. Try not to go crazy it's rough not being able to do anything!
  • Okay. So I went in for an US today at 24+6. Baby is doing great but I had a transvaginal US to check for a short cervix. I am very nervous that it is just now coming up. I was told by the tech that my Dr will call with results in 2-3 days. Would they do this US if they knew everything is okay? - FTM and I do not know what to expect. At least I know I have you guys for support. - Also those of you with a short cervix @mcpd16 and @tabbypatty did you/do you feel pressure down there, I have been thinking it is just normal but now I'm second guessing if I should have made it more of a talking point with my OB. Now I am nervous.

  • @LadyBugMe101I have a really short cervix, and I don't feel much pressure. BUT each pregnancy and each person is different. If your cervix is something to worry about, then you will quickly be told why and how they are going to treat it.
I am having an US every 2 weeks from here out to make sure that my cervix isn't shortening even more. I was told this will happen regardless of the current length.

  • @LadyBugMe101 just try to stay positive it's the worst waiting for test results you can drive yourself crazy! I do it all the time so I know is easier said than done. Baby is healthy and that is great news!
I went to the doctor yesterday and my levels are stable (finally got the darn results back) so bed rest is working. Just need to keep it up and lay low. Hoping these weeks fly by and tests continue staying stable.

  • @LadyBugMe101 I did not feel any pressure, pain, no bleeding or anything. Just this lil guy kicking around in me. I was told I had contractions too, did not feel a thing. Hopefully you'll find out soon what is going on soon, just stay positive and if you have any concerns call your OB.
  • I'm a first time mom. Had a bad bleed at 13 weeks then at 20 weeks saw the main ob in the office I go to. We talked about how my pregnancy was progressing and when I told him about the bleed he put in to have my cervix checked. It was checked at 22weeks and then again at 24 weeks and  I was told it is shortening and the length was at 2cm instead of 3.5. So I was started on the 17p shots cause my ob said it was too late for a stitch and they said modified bed rest. I'm 25 weeks now and go for my shot on Thursday then next week they will check it again. I keep trying to research and just pray I can hold him in there until it's safe for him to be born. It took my husband and I 8 years and a fertility specialist to finally get our miracle and I just want him to be healthy
  • @jennielige are your shots progestrone ones? My cervix was .6 when I had the stitch put in, but I'm also on progesterone and modified bedrest. Others have carried to full term, and we can too. Just follow your OB's instructions and try to not stress more you already are.

  • @jennielige I'm so sorry you're stressed about this. Isn't it crazy that things just don't go as planned? I totally get it. Try and put your feet up as much as you can and just know your little love bug will be ok. Your doctors will do everything to keep them safe and all you can do is take care of yourself. Thinking of you!!

  • Yeah they are progesterone shots. I'm starting to relax a little more now. It's been at a 2 for a week now so if things keep going this way I'm really hopeful we can make it til he's safe to come
