The sex topic has become a sore subject around this house. We had sex regularly up until I gave birth last pregnancy no problem but this pregnancy has been a whole different ball game. Starting mid 2nd trimester all positions became pretty uncomfortable for me so it happened few & far between, then at my 35 week appointment my dr did a check & told me my cervix was soft. I know this can mean nothing but considering last time they couldn't even get my cervix to soften & dilate AT ALL even at 40+ weeks it freaked me out. I really need baby to stay in until the week if the scheduled CS due to other circumstances and I refuse to do anything to help her come early. My husband was not pleased when after that appointment I told him my vagina was out of commission until mid-october. He's started taking very long showers though so I suspect he's not going completely without...
So I bought a few postpartum supplies yesterday, just pads and stool softener. Last birth, the hospital sent me home with literally everything I needed for the duration of my recovery, except for enough pads and stool softener. And this was after I had bought all the other supplies. So different hospital this time so no idea what I'll be stealing/sent home with but figure there's a CVS right around the corner from my house. I can always send my husband out. I'm probably jinxing myself.
@blondie080300 GIRL! I missed you too lol! You're right- easier to just jump right back in. I just felt bad having missed so much time- and I know the pace this group moves. I have to see about the FB group- I'm in one now and it's been great, so much easier to keep up with, but I understand why people would have reservations. How have you been feeling??
@yellowrose314 Thanks Unfortunately we got to my moms and the pool was bright green and cloudy- looked like a vat of ecto cooler! My husband wouldn't let me do more than hop in quick to just cool off My MIL lives in a condo complex with a pool so I'm going there this afternoon to float. And I cracked up when I read your post about buying your DH porn and cookies- that's awesome!
@marikkita12 you're not alone- DH is too afraid to even try sex and has been since about 20 weeks too, so I've had lots of alone time as well. I've tried everything too, he is just way too in his own head. And at this point, being 8+ months prego, I don't think he would be able to if his life depended on it lol! He's too wigged out - plus this baby moves around so frequently he would definitely be getting kicked if he goes near my belly haha! I may have to attack him when I get full-term though, tell him it's all for the cause to get this kid out already!
@JennM205 ah I hadn't thought of that- I have a small handful of thank you cards left over after the shower, but I'm going to have to print off a bunch more just in case. I made my own and printed them at work while my boss was away (lol) so I'll have to get on that next weekend.
So, a FB group huh? That would actually be about 100 times easier for me to keep up with! Even with no internet at home my phone was able to connect to Facebook for the most part, so I was able to keep up with another group of expecting mothers there far more. Getting onto the community page here from my phone was next to impossible, and my laptop was essentially useless without internet I missed this group so much! So how do I get in on the FB group?
Nesting- I've been trying to chip away at things- but as soon as I start I get way too into it and overdo it. Yesterday DH put the carseat in, I washed and put away all the baby clothes, towels, bibs etc and put them all away- ended up overheated and exhausted.
My randoms- holy F sneezing hurts so bad these days!!! When I sneeze I swear it feels like his head is rattling right on my pelvis or something. Hurts like hell! Aiden's definitely head down too- when he hiccups it's all in my pelvis, and I have his legs pushing out every side of the top half my stomach like crazy. He is so active!!! I love it so much, even though it's getting uncomfortable. And I just can't today- I'm freaking exhausted!!! I was supposed to go see my cousin and her baby for a while, then my mom for a bit, then my MIL. I'm still sitting on my couch, not dressed, not feeling any motivation to get up and out whatsoever. Third trimester exhaustion, especially with this heat wave in NY, is so real!
@PSUBecky23 - I didn't buy postpartum supplies last time, and won't this time either - other than some jumbo pads. I'm already taking a stool softener every day with my iron because I love to poop, so I'll have plenty of those on hand. I actually still have my supplies from last time, though the tucks pads/dermoplast might have expired (I'll still give them a shot if needed).
Side by side sex doesn't work for us even when I'm not pregnant. We always end up at a really weird angle and then it's not deep enough penetration for me or its hitting things the wrong way. Also, I'm super impressed with anyone who's still doing it missionary. I didn't even think that was possible at this point in pregnancy.
Funny/Interesting thoughts from H. I was telling him about my appt and how if baby doesn't flip I would need a C-section. He asks if/when we get to meet the surgeon. I kind of laugh and say it's my doctor, she is a ob-gyn. He is dumbfounded by this and is really questioning this practice. Then says "Well I liked her enough for her to vaginally deliver but I don't like her enough for her to cut you open."
Other comment this weekend from him "It's funny how your belly is soo big but your legs are normal. It's like old men who are fat but have tiny bird legs." Thanks honey.
@marajay6 Good luck with the toddler bed! I'm dreading the day we have to switch over. Also don't look forward to any climbing out attempts. Glad your son seems okay after the fall. I bet it shook up all three of you!
There is no sex happening here. H was like "only like two more weeks and then it's back on the sex train". Apparently he forgot about pp healing and how miserable sex was while breastfeeding...
My random... NST was today. Baby girl didn't want to cooperate this time, and kept moving away as soon as we'd get her heartbeat. Then she spent so long fighting the monitor that she fell asleep once we got her. After a out an hour, she finally woke up and went nuts and everything looked great.
Also, we totally needed rain, but it can stop anytime. It's day 3 of pretty much non-stop rain.
Oh! And is anyone else having trouble believing we're halfway through August already!
@marajay6 - just had to scroll back, I had missed the crib escape comment! Yikes! We haven't had any escape attempts yet, and at daycare little man sleeps on a cot and still waits for someone to go pick him up when he wakes from nap.. so I'm hopeful that means he won't be trying any time soon. I am going to put a body pillow that we don't use next to his crib.. we all know it would never be where he'd land, but it'll make me feel better.
When E was a few months old and had a cold he slept in his swing for 2 nights while I slept on the couch. After that we moved the swing up to his room which has hardwood floors.. and I put the body pillow under the swing just in case he flung himself out somehow overnight. He actually never spent another night in the swing, but that pillow seemed like a good idea when running on zero sleep delirium...
[...] Oh! And is anyone else having trouble believing we're halfway through August already!
I'm in denial now. I'm really feeling the fact that the last month of pregnancy has about 1,349 days and every time I get excited that time is flying by now, it slows down. It really is going by fast, though, it's just the anticipation of meeting LO!!
Question about sex inducing labour - do you have to orgasm? Is that what might induce labour? Or just penetration in general? If you have to orgasm, then THAT is never going to happen
@camichael84 - time is NOT slowing down the way that every meme in the world suggests it does. 3 weeks out from due date as of tomorrow.. I'm still convinced this baby will go a week or more beyond his due date, but would be happily surprised if he comes in the next 3 weeks instead. We need 1 more quick trip to BRU with the gift card my work gave me last week for 2 car mirrors, so diaper genie refills and some A&A easy swaddles.. nothing super urgent. Also need to install camera #2 in nursery... after that maybe the waiting game will begin and time will slow? Doubtful...
Forgot to add in my last post that I found out at the NST that my iron is low. They missed my routine 28 week blood work because I skipped the 1 hr glucose test and just took the 3 hr (threw off their routine), so I had it done at my 34 week appt. I wasn't surprised about the low iron-- I've had it before and was noticing some of the same symptoms as before. But when I would bring it up to DH, he'd treat me like I was an insane hypochondriac. I felt so justified showing him the results of my blood test. It made my morning way more than it should have.

I believe it's both the semen which can soften your cervix and the orgasm which releases oxytocin which can possible cause contractions.
My husband who is typically wonderful and loving and caring and giving with everything sex and non-sex related recently complained about how much more work he has to do now during sex. I'm sorry honey, is the work of carrying your child for nine months not enough for you?
@RG1 Semen contains a property that helps soften the cervix, so only your man has to orgasm to have the effect. Although, orgasm can cause uterine contractions, so maybe it could also help? Personally, I'm too selfish to engage in sex if I'm not getting an O, so I wouldn't bother with all the hassle for the off chance it could help induce labor.
@camichael84 Nope, I cannot believe it's the 15th. Had a mini freak out when I realized it was not the 11th. I feel so far behind on my todo's, somehow those four days really make it feel like I had so much more time.
@AnnaS930 I had a brief time last week where time slowed down after we scheduled the induction. But now it's back to zipping by. I still have to go buy all the stuff off our registry that I've been saving for my completion discount. Otherwise, I'm feeling good with what we have done now!
@RG1 - The semen itself can help soften your cervix.. and the orgasm I believe can help with contractions and also pulls the semen up into/around the cervix. I remember my OB last time telling us that "it needs to be good for both of you" for it to be beneficial labor-wise. Sex didn't speed anything along for us, but we'll try it again.
@camichael84 - I have a FB friend who is down to 4 days until her induction.. this weekend I was like "oh man.. 23 days until my due date sounds so long!" then I looked at my calendar today and I was like Woah.. 3 weeks, weeks tend to fly by even if some of the days feel long.. and when The Bump tells me 2 weeks, 6 days on Wednesday, that will be exciting.
If the past 2 weeks are any indicator, I have a really good feeling that the remainder of this pregnancy is going to be spent quietly saying to myself, "What the f*ck?" every 3 minutes or so...
I should add that my husband is not wild about sex for a reason. Trying to conceive sex and trying to induce sex both are less enjoyable for him than spontaneous (which is probably true for most). But really.. those 2 types of sex are 90% of what we've had over the past 2 years so he should just take the opportunity and enjoy the ride.. that sounds raunchier than I had hoped, but leaving it anyways.

I bought some pads and have some stool softener. I really not sure what else I might even need for recovery. Then again as a FTM I feel that way about everything!!!! Do I have enough clothes? Diapers? general supplies?
I keep having to remind myself that we have a publix, walmart, target, cvs and a walgreens (oh and a pizza and chinese place lol) within 5 minutes from our house. DH could leave and come back in the time it takes for me to have one BF session. Plus amazon has free one day in our area (depending on the item) so I think we are set!!!

@kosmo86 - also, once you feel up to it.. those places are all close enough for YOU to go to in between feeds.. and I highly encourage you to do so. Little 15-20 minute outings when you feel ready for them (or forcing yourself to go even if you don't quite feel ready if months have elapsed) are scary and really wonderful. Life changes forever with a baby, but at the same time.. life must go on!! Prep as much as you can so you feel mentally prepared but know that basically all supplies can be bought within minutes when needed. You got this!!
@Ssoccerball congrats on your beautiful babies! Awesome news that they haven't needed any NICU time!

@AnnaS930 My DH is the same! I'm finally off of pelvic rest after nearly a month...and we know there's going to be a dry spell of at least six weeks postpartum...so these are our last week(s) to take advantage. But he's pretty uninterested, from what I can tell. I told him yesterday that I'd be interested though I admitted it might be awkward. He immediately responded that the awkwardness isn't what's bothering him, it's the fact that it has a "purpose". So now I feel like he thinks the only reason I want to is to jump-start labor and I feel bad. Though, if I'm being honest with myself...my reasons are probably 25% to please him (he's been amazing through this pregnancy and has picked up so much of my slack, I'd like to thank him), 5% for me...or maybe 1%...and the rest is to get that cervix nice and ripe. Sigh.
We're still having sex but it's become pretty uncomfortable and hard to find a position that works. I probably won't even bother with doing it more to try and induce labor since I was having ALL of the uncomfortable sex trying to get DD to come and it didn't do squat.
My husband who is typically wonderful and loving and caring and giving with everything sex and non-sex related recently complained about how much more work he has to do now during sex. I'm sorry honey, is the work of carrying your child for nine months not enough for you?
I feel like sex is more work for me lately, since I'm often on top. Also because I'm rolling around like a beached whale in general. I admittedly have mentioned said extra work to him. If he made the same comment in reverse, I would not be as understanding!
@MrsVoorhees Siiiiiigh. Of course that worked out for her What happened with her engagement, did I miss that?
@JennM205 I can't even with your SIL's work. I am someone who doesn't like pranks overmuch anyway, but joking about being pregnant is a pretty obvious no no these days. gah.
Catching back up on randoms after a looooong weekend of watching DD at home while DH and my dad installed new kitchen appliances (yay) and dealing with bh contractions.
I just woke up from a nap and missed all the extra sex talk lol here are my additions 1. Anyone still doing missionary is incredible, my bump vetoed that position weeks ago. 2. Anyone on top AND doing the work? Props to you lol
I'm growing a person-- I'm not doing any work in sex right now lol I just lay down and get my O.
I have my 36 week appointment today and will be getting the gbs stab (still funny!!) so I will be attempting some hot yoga with knives (shaving) in the shower. Here's hoping for minimal contractions, pain and blood. Wish me luck ladies
GUYS remember my friend that delivered her twins at 23 weeks back in February?? One came home in June but the other one was still so sick and fighting so hard so he had to stay in the NICU longer.
WELL the other one is on his way home THIS WEEK!!! Its been such a long journey and they are both still on oxygen but other than that they are doing okay I'm so happy for her I could dance.
