Re: UO - 7/21/16

  • Glitter. Yuck!
Back in my rowing days there was NO better motivation than glitter. If we pulled up to the starting line and there was a woman with hair bows or glitter I would vow to BEAT HER ASS because who wears glitter to a sporting event?!?!

Interesting cultural tidbit - in Germany it is considered VERY damaging to put a baby in baby shoes. They believe they cause the feet to develop incorrectly.

  • @jennielu I agree with you, because sometimes I can't even enjoy the as I wished. It happened to me in a middle of a meeting, I was presenting and felt it so bad, it was cute but definitely timing was not appropriate

  • +1 for disliking camo, animal prints, etc. This is a very UO here in Oklahoma. I get that camo is necessary while hunting or for military, but I cringe when I see it on cute little babies!
  • @mayisch I totally feel you! I always feel guilty afterward like I should be paying more attention to her:)
  • I think a lot of Vera Bradley patterns are busy/ugly but I'll admit that I like the Disney ones (which may be unpopular since I know a lot of adults who think I'm nuts with liking Disney- oh well)

I like the look of glitter but that stuff is worse then sand!! It never leaves. My dd had her hair done with glitter and months later (hair washed every ther day) it still looked like she had sparkly dandruff. Ugh.

I had baby Uggs (again that may be unpopular) for dd and I bought new ones for new baby ($15 at the outlet!!!). My pediatrician told us she really likes them for babies and I love my ped. so I figured I'm good.

My unpopular opinion is I don't drink (maybe I should state it like: I think alcohol is gross haha). That sounds more like a fffc but I also know it's an unpopular opinion with a lot. I didn't like the sips I tried and everyone told me it's an acquired taste but I don't understand the concept of acquiring the taste of something like that. I am NOT one of those people that side eyes people who are drinking or preach to why they shouldn't; it's just not for me. But I will say sometimes it makes me feel less 'adult'. Like everyone is like ah kicking back in Friday with my glass of wine and I'm over here like 'yeah this crystal light taste great'.
  • Oh yea, hate camouflage. That's actually part of the reason we didn't tell people gender. My husband is a hunter so you know we would be getting a bunch of pink camo,  soo ugly!

I think there are very few beverages grosser than Crystal Light, so I guess more wine for me and more Crystal Light for you then.
  • @NoraAurora sounds good! Although I only drink the pink lemonade, and just because it's the best tasting pink lemonade of all those 'to go' drink mixes so it's easier at work. It was really just a random comparison haha.
  • On the camo- we had a pair of camo pants for DS1 from baby gap and they were adorable. We've also done camo shorts from baby gap. I thought they were cute! I can't get into pink camo though or full on camo... In fact I didn't care for the camo shorts at gap this year... I guess I am particular about it.

My UO since I commented on everyone else's is I love hot tamales. And I also hate gum. I don't think a lot of people should be able to chew it because they are disgusting and I also get super skeeved when people chew gum and their jaw moves like crazy. Like why? Doesn't that hurt? Ugh I hate gum chewers... Gum chompers.
  • My UO: I think it is unacceptable to just "let yourself go" after you've been in a relationship for a while if there is no medical reason for it.

    Also, I love hamburger helper...

My husband and I "let ourselves go" in the first couple of years of our marriage, but I called that being fat and happy. lol. We've worked harder on ourselves since then, but that's more for health reasons.

  • @bnsmith85 oh yes- that is also a huge issue for me too.

I agree in regards to weight. I've let myself go and I'm furious with myself. My health should always be a priority to me. But I've let myself go in other ways too. I wear yoga pants 24/7, I don't wear makeup anymore, and I don't do my hair unless I'm reeeeeeelly motivated. Lol. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I don't feel the need to impress anyone and my husband doesn't mind.

@serenaxo84 - not gum chewers for me but loud chewers. Like mouth open, no manners chewers. I CANNOT stand it! One of the first things I taught the kids I watched in college was how to chew with their mouths shut and it will be something I teach my kids as soon as they're able to understand.

Just realized I'm ranting about this... Rant over lol
Ugh, my son is awful about this. He will talk with food in his mouth or take too big of bites and then be smacking and chewing loudly. I didn't become his stepmom until he was 13-14 years old, so retraining him has been a process.

  • Mutual and agreed letting-go is different I suppose!

  • Hehehe...packing for a weekend back in my hometown and I guess I have more leftover VB than I thought!! What can I say, they're made well and accomodate so much!
  • @annabenanna I got a pair of chucks at my baby shower for my last baby and they are stinkin cute! He just turned 2 on Monday and is on his 3rd pair. I can't bring myself to buy anything else, outside of sandals, because he is so adorable in them!

  • Tits is a great word. Tits is the tits.

    ETA: Titties is even better.
Haha, my SO says "that's titties!" sometimes when he really likes something. He got it from some show I'm blanking on right now but it still makes me giggle.

Late to the party.  My unpopular opinion - I would like to shield my kids from really commercial toys and characters for as long as possible.  We don't buy my toddler Disney toys and we got him Brio trains instead of Thomas the Tank Engine.  My mom calls me a snob, and I probably am, but I cringe a little inside every time a family member gives him a gift with Mickey Mouse emblazoned all over it.  (I am always grateful for gifts and I'd never not send a thank you note or not let him play with a gift because it's commercial.  I just won't buy him these things and I'd prefer he didn't get them in the first place.  He got a Mickey Mouse car from his great-grandparents for Christmas, and until my parents visited and told him repeatedly that it was "Mickey Mouse", he just referred to it as his mousey car.)

  • I am so not into Disney. I would be ok with her never seeing the movies.

I used to be like this! I can't deny my disney love though. Our nursery is vintage disneyland theme, but it's subtle (more mid century modern with nods to disneyland rather than characters and having mouse ears plastered everywhere). I DO draw the line at disney clothes. He can wear them to Disneyland and that's it.

I personally love Disney, but I do not like Disney clothes. I'm not going to deny my DD the (atrocious) princess screenprint t-shirts that she thinks she MUST have though. Initially I thought I would, because quite frankly I hate them, but if She wants an Elsa shirt- She's the 4-year-old wearing it, not me.

That being said, I am in love with your vintage theme though! @Julia70286 The colors and everything about it ♡ it is reminiscent of a Circus theme/colors and I adore those.

    Edit for horrid grammatical errors.
  • Thank you @AllyTheKid ... True, I shouldn't say "never" about the disney clothes. If that's what truly makes him happy, I will obviously let him wear them... begrudgingly lol.

  • Yeah, I know they'll eventually be exposed to the characters and I won't deny them clothes or toys just because they have characters on them.  I just want to avoid that as long as possible.  That said, my sister-in-law used the original Winnie-the-Pooh illustrations in her son's nursery and it is very cute.

I was always an I hate characters person but honestly if it's what my kid wants then that's what we will get. I just try and buy shirts that aren't obnoxious. Old Navy has some cuter paw patrol shirts and character shirts. Sometimes it makes getting dressed that much easier as he will always usually choose the paw patrol shirt or the neon orange Nike sweatshirt even in 90 degree heat.

I I do try to keep them out of the bedroom though.
