I'm currently laying in bed timing contractions. They've been coming sporadically for the last 6ish hours but for the last hour they've been pretty regular. Im anxious to see if they fizzle out or get stronger.
@jlmama118 Keep us posted! I hope they mean something
last night I timed contractions for a bit. I only ended up having 4 and they were about 20 minutes apart. They were the most painful yet though. Still wasn't sure they were contractions (and not just gas pain or something) so I'm nervous I won't know when they happen! They started in my upper abdomen and I felt the pain radiate down my stomach and into my legs and lower back. And it lasted about 30 seconds. Sound like one?
@shiva14 Thanks! I keep feeling like I'm having them, then as time goes on they become more and more real feeling. I think at this point, H is sick of me saying I thought I was going into labour!
@RG1 are you able to time them at this point? You could be going into labor! Or you could be dealing with them for weeks, I did with DS . If you feel like they are picking up though and becoming more frequent, it could be the real thing!
So after a few days of high BP, I finally decided to get checked. Had protein in my urine and was monitored for awhile but the BP came down a little bit, just not down to "normal". Thankfully, I was sent home after labs came back ok, I was just put on modified bedrest until baby comes so DH is doing most of everything at home since my BP goes up to 150+/100+ just walking to the bedroom. I've been having contractions on and off since the day before yesterday and they decided to hang around. They've been coming and going now about 8-10 minutes apart so now I'm just home watching them, been going on for a good 18 hours. I saw them on the monitor yesterday when they were just a bit further apart and it was fun knowing what they actually feel like. I'm half thinking they'll go away because they're so mild. I was so glad to learn I wouldn't need an induction because I prefer to go into labor on my own but, at 38+w, I'm okay with baby coming when she wants to, it'd be nice if she decided to stay put just a liiiittle longer though.
@shiva14 They've stopped now, but I could definitely time them last night. That was the first time they had a definitive beginning and end
@AlwaysAuntNeverMom Love it for the possibility of baby soon (even though you want her to stay in a bit longer). I hope you are able to relax on bed rest a bit!
@RG1 I guess the possibility of getting a baby in just a few days makes me nervous! I know she'll be fine if she comes now though
Totally understand that. I go between wanting baby to come ASAP and then I think about baby coming and I'm like "hmmm maybe a few more days of prep wouldn't hurt"
@JLMama118 I wish there was an "Unlove It" for your post. Hang in there, Mama. The disappointment and frustration is real!
@AlwaysAuntNeverMom I'm sorry to hear you're having BP issues but glad they have calmed down with rest. Keep us posted as time progresses! I'll be thinking of you and hoping baby girl bakes a bit longer...but not TOO much longer.
I feel like I never really can identify contractions. I feel super crampy today but I don't knowwwwww.
I'm in a similar boat today. Super crampy and gross feeling, but I can't always tell if there's a contraction along with the cramps. The contractions I CAN identify are accompanied by way more downward pressure than usual.
I'm currently playing the ultimate match of "Is This Finally It?" I woke at 5:45am with contractions between 10-15 minutes apart. I continued to sleep during the intervals but by 7:45am they were getting pretty strong - which is new. (I've been having contractions for over a month...often timeable, frequent even...but always fairly mild.) I woke up, started getting ready, and contractions continued - which was also new. (All the other times, any time I went from laying to moving about or vice versa the contractions would fizzle.) I logged into work to wrap up some things and the contractions slowed down a bit but didn't stop. Around 10am, I went for a walk and throughout that, contractions occurred every 2-5 minutes and were painful but I could still walk and talk through them. I told DH that the "real test" would be when we got home - I'd sit on my exercise ball and if they continued, I'd be more confident that this is the real deal. Well, they've continued but are now between 6-8 minutes apart and fairly short (30ish seconds) so who the heck knows!!
@JennM205 - I can't imagine playing that game!! Ahhh. Last time I played the "is this labor game?" once and it was! I have plenty of BH this time around but never even time them because they just don't get to that point.
Hope things pick back up, the timing is going in the wrong direction. Come on baby, 39.5 weeks is a good time for you!
@JennM205 how exciting! Seeing your post reminded me I had a dream about you - I will post in the randoms thread, as it was VERY random.
Has anyone had contractions that don't "peak" but are strong consistently? Last night my stomach would visibly tense, I'd feel the radiating pain down my uterus and into my legs, and it lasted about 30 seconds, but it was the same intense pain throughout (had to breathe through it and couldn't talk). It seemed pretty intense for early non-labour contractions and didn't have a peak. I'm curious if this has happened to others?
@RG1 I find that my BH don't peak much but IDK, FTM here! They tighten my belly down but stay pretty consistent. I've had a few painful contractions with peak but those feel way stronger and last about 2 minutes. Maybe the ones that don't peak are just too mild? Or maybe they start mild and you can't feel them and the peak is when you get to the point of not being able to talk? I wish I knew more about this lol
@AlwaysAuntNeverMom LOL I wish I knew more too haha. I hate being a FTM! Possible that it starts before I can really notice it, and then I'm noticing the peak!
@RG1 - I don't remember having BH last time (possible I just didn't recognize them), hard to remember the first contractions of actual labor (the ones at home) but they were intense. By the time I headed to the hospital there was an absolute peak for me.. Every contraction came on, built up and ebbed back away very very distinctly.
So far my BH this time come on most nights but never have the same flow/peak/ebb to them, so I just ignore them as best as I can.
@RG1 I can also say that when I was hooked up to the monitor, I had one of the painful ones with peak and the nurse was shocked and said "that was a big one!!!!" And then when I had the milder ones, I could barely feel them. The ones with peak are very recognizable and I feel them come on, get stronger and slowly fade away. I told H I wouldn't even have recognized the mild ones as contractions with a pattern (about 13 mins apart), more like an achy feeling. So you might be having those BH often and not even know it!
Ahh so much to consider! I have a NST tomorrow so I'm curious if I have any during that. Most of the intense ones have been happening at night so I'm not getting my hopes up, but it would be cool to see on the monitor
Made a trip to L+D last night (on my birthday!) with contractions every 2 mins for about 3 hours. Was definitely contracting that frequently on the monitor and was 3.5 to 4 cm dilated and 90 percent effaced but they wanted me to get to 5 cm before admitting me. Walked for an hour, had terrible contractions, but no change in my cervix so they sent me home. Contractions stopped around 2 am after I laid down for a while. This morning they are picking up again now that I am up and about. Am going to try to walk a lot today since that's what seems to be working for me to get labor going! Hopefully we will meet this stubborn baby soon!
It's kind of funny. I was having a non-stress test yesterday when the nurse practitioner walks in to check the monitor and looks over at me asking if I just "felt that contraction". Um... No? You mean kicks, right? She shook her head and said "no, contraction". I had 3-4 right in their office attached to the monitors. What's odd is they don't feel anything like what I've heard others describe. Mine literally just feel like my chest is being squeezed. No pain, all up high, but apparently "real" contractions. Not BH. So any day now!

Same thing happened to me with my last pregnancy. That said, when I was actually in labor, those contractions felt completely different than what I felt during the NST. It took me a while to realize that I was in labor.
Just got back from my appointment and I am scheduled for induction next Tuesday at 12:30 am! My blood pressure was high, I've gained 7 lbs in 3 days and with my history of rapid labors my OB (and I) feel more comfortable knowing I'll be in the hospital.
That being said, I'm at a solid 4 and was having a ton of contractions last night, so I'm not sure I'll make it until Tuesday. Please baby, if you want to come sooner can you wait until your dad is home so we can leave for the hospital immediately?
