Who's giving this a go? I've never practiced it before, myself. I've had clients apply some principals of it (word avoidance, j-breathing, visualization), but I'm only now actually diving into the book. I am excited and optimistic to give it a try. Anyone else?

I'm going to purchase and do the Hypnobabies (which I'm told is a little different than hypnobirthing) home study. It seems like the unmedicated pain management strategy that's the best fit for my personality. I'm making myself wait until 2nd Tri to order it or anything else baby related though. I'm excited too! I can't wait to dive in. I only wish there was an in-person class in my area.
I took the hypnobabies classes and did all the exercises religiously and definitely had to listen to the "change of plans" track because everything went to shit. Also, my nurse who was with me while I was pushing was totally an asshole about letting me do it my own way and trying to push the hypnobabies way.
In hindsight, I don't know if I would do it again. I don't know if it actually kept me more calm. By the time they decided to push him back in and do my c/s my last words were "just get him the fuck out of me".. that's my beautiful birthing story haha.
I'm sorry it didn't work out @PerraSucia. How odd that your nurse was trying to push hynpnobabies! I'm fully expecting my MW to give me very strange looks when I announce this plan. The main thing I like about it is that it seems less judgy about interventions than some other unmedicated birth strategies that I've looked into.

no she wasn't pushing it! She was SUUPPPPER anti. Like one of the hypnobabies ideas is that you breathe out with your pushing because straining doesn't actually make you push harder, it just stresses you out and cuts oxygen. This lady was like "YOU AREN'T TRYING HARD ENOUGH THAT'S WHY HE'S NOT COMING OUT"
a close friend of mine LOVED the Bradley method with both her kids because it made her H was more involved and wasn't so much just on her.

Ugh. Frustrating nurse.
Bradley is one that I'm nervous about, TBH. I want to be prepared for unmedicated, but don't want to feel like I failed in any way if it doesn't work out. I've heard Bradley can be a bit judgy, though I'm sure it varies by the teacher. Then again, I know people swear by it so who knows.

my hypnobabies teacher was pretty judgy and anti-vax too.. honestly not to sound jaded, but I think most of the "drug free" programs are heavily skewed that way.

Ugh. I have my reasons for not wanting an epidural (basically the idea of not feeling my legs just scares me more than not having one) but I have no effing clue why people get so judgy about it. And any sort of anti-vax propaganda is where you lose me. Maybe it's a good thing that the home study is my only option! The actual website makes a big fuss about all births being good births.
I'm allergic to sulfites, which is the preservative used in most numbing drugs, so it was a HUGE drama to give me my epidural and they wanted me to take it because labor had stalled and they felt it was what I needed to keep dilating.
I did the Bradley method course, unfortunately at 41.1 weeks I had to be induced as is my OBs policy to induce before 42 weeks, long story short maxed out on pit and waters broken = tectonic contractions that do not build in intensity they start at maximum intensity had me crying uncle and begging for my epi. I really hope to go into labor naturally this time and then whether or not I get the epi this time will depend on how I feel up to that point. I did actually like the epi to be honest. But really once you deliver and life goes on no one really cares if you did or didn't. I also read Ina mays guide to natural childbirth (has so funky stuff in there too so skip that) but it was a great read
Xstatic not all epidurals make you lose leg feeling! I tried to go natural I did but I was alone laboring and middle of the night I caved and got one. I was soooo scared and so against an epidural bc I'd heard horror stories. Thankfully I had an amazing dr and he did the epi I felt not even a poke. I could feel and move my legs the whole time. I walked about 45-1 hr after birth ( had to get some stitches and whatnot. In fact during my labor I wasn't totally numb I felt everything but it was quite dulled for sure. this time I will try again for a natural though I heard its empowering!
Thanks to all for sharing your stories! I think it really points to flexibility in birth plan being so important. I still think I can get that from the Hypnobabies program, but we'll see how it goes.
I did hypnobirthing with my first! Well, I read the book and listened to the CDs every night. I had the most AMAZING labor and delivery. I was super calm and chill throughout the whole thing. I also labored through transition in the tub, which I will be doing again. I think we had the cd playing during labor but I can't remember. All I remember is intense focus on myself and breathing and major relaxation. If you end up doing it, I hope it works for you!
We definitely want to try hypnobirthing! I have a friend who swears by it for her two kids, and after all my research that seems to make women really successful in drug free births!

It ended up not even working for a huge pocket.
