FFFC (July 8)

Re: FFFC (July 8)

  • Since we bought our house (on May 11th) my side or DH's side of the family has been over ever weekend with the exception of last weekend. I adore our family and appreciate all the help they've given us, but holy hell I need a break from them! Every weekend gives me anxiety because they expect everything to be unpacked and decorated, and it's not. The weekend is the only free time I have to do that and since they're here I'm busy entertaining them. More family is coming tomorrow for dinner so I'm one again scrambling to try and get as much done as possible just so I don't have to hear, "the bare walls would drive me crazy," one more time.

  • @krzyriver I got what you meant. I think it's because I've experienced similar comments or treatment. Most people assumed I didn't go to college because I was "just a waitress." Frustrating, but the hospitality business really gives you some tough skin!

  • I'm 32 and my mom is visiting tomorrow and bringing a bag of groceries for me and hubby, and even though I should be ashamed that my mom has to bring a grown ass woman groceries, I'm just too excited that she's going to pick me up peaches!

  • @laurapcos Don't be ashamed! I gave my mom a credit card on my account specifically so I could have her run errands for me when I get less mobile! (Also she will be taking care of my child and may need it for that, but that's in the future and I was thinking of me for now.)

  • Wtf to the lady who fell asleep on  the freeway? Now I am in L&D for the next two hours because my doctor's office neglected to give the on call information to the answering service. At least, so far everything is fine.

  • @AllyTheKid Right?! Move it or lose it, mister! Literally!

@bnsmith85 You're right, and considering it's one of his numerous black graphic shirts... he'll never notice.

And hey! At least I got the room painted! Time to move in the furniture!

@julia70286 this might be me today. I'm so stressed right now and not having the room at least started is adding to my anxiety so I'll prob start in hopes he will finish.
  • I'm a day late, but I'm gonnapst my FFFC anyways. I try so so hard to be active on here and I read as much as I can. My life is super hectic right now...I have a toddler, I work 5 jobs (no exaggeration-1 full time the rest part time), my mom is sick, and I have a shitty "friend" who put an awful idea in my head this week that DH is doing some things that aren't good. (I believe him over her, but still, now the thoughts are there).

My my point to all this is that I don't get to participate in here as much as I want, and I'm scared people will think I'm a random. I'm worried that if/when a fb group forms I won't be included. I relied so much on the ladies in my first BMB during those first few months of baby's life, and I know I'm gonna need the support again.
  • @MrsHudson2014 How did everything go??

@JamieK1882 I second you being involved enough that most of us know or at least recognize you.
And sorry about that mess =/ I hope things get better for you... your friend sounds like a real peach.
  • Thanks @nataliemaephotography and @allythekid sleep deprivation makes me lose common sense and I appreciate the reassurance
  • Awe... ::hugs:: I'll make sure you're on the list for FB folks (assuming I'm on the list lol)
  • @JamieK1882 I'm sorry life is stressful right now. I recognize you when you're able to pop on :)
  • @laurapcos Don't be ashamed! I gave my mom a credit card on my account specifically so I could have her run errands for me when I get less mobile! (Also she will be taking care of my child and may need it for that, but that's in the future and I was thinking of me for now.)
Except I have no plans on paying her back <--- shameful part

@LauraPCOS I'm almost 40 and my mom still picks up all the tabs when she comes to visit. She has a lot more than us and she offers. I did manage to stealthily pick up a lunch and a dinner last time she was here, but she bought groceries, clothes, IKEA purchases, and an 8x10 area rug. No shame here.

  • no shame I don't say no when mom buys stuff either. she's finally bringing me my soup today.
  • @laurapcos Well... I let my parents pay for dinner last night even though I summoned them to it, and I let my mom buy me lunch almost every week. Even though she's going to give me free child care and she and my father make less money than we do (since only my father works) - although we do have debt that they don't, so not sure how that evens out. Also the car I drive was bought by them (when I was thirty!) and they still pay my cell phone bill because it's the family plan...

Also, I feel the same way as you about being left out! Like, I think people should remember me, but I have a hard time remembering other people sometimes, so maybe they don't. Also, maybe they don't like me, because I'm not very likable! People never liked me and I never have friends. Partly because I hate doing anything that involves going anywhere, so maybe online it's different? This group has seemed really great and inclusive and not to cliquey so far - so hopefully that will last even when we're all in third trimester and super cranky!

  • Im going to see the Justin Bieber Concert Sunday with my niece, who is obsessed with him and she's 26. Can't believe I'm doing this. I'm my defense we only had to pay $100 for the tickets and we are sitting in the 5th row.

MIL does this. It used to bother me, and then I realized it makes her happy to do it since she isn't here often to do things with us, etc. so now I happily let her :)
  • I'll let you know how the show is @CopperBoom86 and @nlane0723! I'm sure it'll be pretty good. And I'll admit I do like some of his music.  :) I love concerts so I'm sure I'll have a great time!

  • @RainMira9e I'm the same way! I have friends online, and a small few in person because I honestly don't have a filter...I am as surprised as what comes out of my mouth as you are (the other day I called a guy at work a douche when I meant to call him a do-do bird but I couldn't stop it as I heard douche coming out).  My friends find it funny, so they stick around for a long time, others tolerate me but are gone as soon as they can.  But I remember your name <3

@nlane0723 my mom stocked my fridge and cupboards today! So excited.  She would have brought more but she knows it might go to waste so she brings in smaller batches (hubby is a super picky eater and I can only eat so much).

@sportiegrl1213 I used to hate him and his music but I have to admit I turn it up and hush hubby when the "Love Yourself" song comes on

  • On a related note, but on the opposite end of the spectrum- I suppose I could confess that the thought of breast feeding toddlers and young children, not a baby, is weird to me personally.

(I've read the material, I know the benefits, I know it's not uncommon so on and so forth, and I certainly am NOT judging or flaming anyone who does, it would just make ME uncomfortable)
You do you. DS will be three in a few weeks, starting preschool in September, and he still nurses. *shrug*

DS decided he wanted nothing to do with the boob at 10 months. I think it became too much work and bottles were faster. It was sad...esp because I kept pumping another 3 months or so
  • I'm hopping on the Mom train - she still spoils me and I love it. I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to care for and help your child, no matter what age. And we're very appreciative, never take advantage. I do tease her now that just because she's getting a grandbaby doesn't mean the perks stop for her only daughter... ;);)

My guy self weaned at 7 months, but I kept pumping for 3 more months.  Your comment made me think of something--probably better for the breastfeeding thread but I wanted to mention it.  At the bf'ing class I took they recommended using Dr. Brown's bottles with Preemie size nipples because  the flow is more similar to breastfeeding.  It really did seem true that once I moved up a couple sizes in the nipples he was less and less interested in boob, and wanted the bottle bc it was faster.

If you do this, the bottles come with size 1, but you can buy preemie nipples separately.  I'm sure other brands have this option too, but Dr. Browns worked so well for us we never tried any others.
  • Thanks @gatorMom2014! I'll add those to my registry!

  • My mom was the bestest yesterday! Not only did she end up bringing my tons of food, she took me out clothes shopping and dropped probably $300 on a few outfits.  I tried to keep everything to clearance, but 3 regular priced items slipped through which took up half the cost.  I'm just relieved now cause plus size maternity clothes were starting to stress me out, so now all I need is my shower dress which I have options if I can't find anything.

@AllyTheKid I think you'll be an awesome mom! Not that I know you in person but you seem awesome!

  • @LauraPCOS Awe, shucks, thank you :) And likewise!
  • I can't relate to the mom posts, but I aspire to be that mommy for my kids for forever ♡
+1. But MIL/FIL spoil us so much as to MORE than make up for my parents...so I could never ever complain
  • A couple days late but, my FFFC is that this is just my first baby and I'm already not planning on washing all new baby clothes and crib sheets before using them

Also, read up on paced bottle feeding. Bottle feeding a breastfed baby is completely different than a formula fed baby.

  • @TurtleMomma what?? Bottle feeding a breast fed baby is different??  How? I am such a noob at this, that actually surprised me.  I knew there could be challenges (nipple confusion) but I didn't know there was more to it than that.

Very simply, milk from the breast comes in waves while milk from a bottle comes in a constant stream. The point of paced bottle feeding is to mimic the wave-nature of milk flow from the breast. Also, creating a "wave" of milk release at the breast takes effort on the babe's part but tipping a bottle back with a constant flow takes no effort and some babes get used to that and don't want to work for it anymore. Lastly, paced bottle feeding tends to keep babes from over-eating (extremely important if you are pumping) because they're more likely to stop eating when they're full because a feeding takes a little longer and they can better recognize full cues.

KellyMom explains it in more detail  :)

I thought I was the only one :) I don't do it when I buy new clothes for myself either.
