  • Happy birthday @PootsDragon! And good luck to all the ladies seeing progress now!
  • I had my first doctor appointment since giving birth and the discussion was around birth control. She also said I need to wait a year until we try for number two. Number two?! Number one isn't even a month old yet, slow your roll doctor lady! I think I'm going with an IUD (Mirena) which is new, I've only ever used BC pills. Has anyone had experience with Mirena?
  • @theshannondee I'm thinking about doing mirena as well because I'm pretty sure I don't want another child ever...i was on the mini pill last time because I knew I wanted a second child at some point. I do not want any room for error this time though. I don't have any prior experience with it though. I'm curious what others might think about it.
  • @theshannondee I had the Mirena for six years before getting pregnant. I was one of the lucky ones and I didn't have a period the whole time! The only time I had an issue was toward the end of year 5 when I was on a hormonal roller coaster (not unlike now) and my husband actually figured out that I probably needed a replacement.

@theshannondee that's what I was on for about a year and a half after DD, and it was hell. I had periods that were heavier than they had ever been before, I would get a period every 3 weeks and bleed for 5-7 days. They also thought it had punctured my uterine wall which would account for how much pain I would be in. I got it because my sisters raved about how much they loved it and, I won't be getting it again.  Hubs and I need to figure out what we will be doing for bc after this guy is born because there will be no more.
  • I also had the Mirena and loved it. I had a few light periods over 4.5 years but no other issues. It hurt for 20 minutes after they put it in and then viola! Instant birth control. I plan on getting one asap after Baby is here this time.
  • I got the Mirena after DD and loved it. I think about 40% of women don't have periods while on it. I was one of the lucky ones!

My SIL had an ectopic pregnancy that erupted while on it. Which makes me nervous to use it again.  I think this time DH is getting snipped so I'm not planning on BC.
  • I had the mirena prior to getting pregnant and like it.  I stopped getting my period after about 5 months and had no issues when it was in or removed.  I did have quite a bit of cramping for about 5 hours after it was put in and remember thinking how much it hurt.  LOL to that when compared to birthing a kid.

A friend of mine had the mirena and had a miscarriage. I guess there's always a chance of something like that happening. I don't have any experience with it, but I would be cautious.
  • Anyone DONE with kids after this and having tubes tied/removed? My midwife said the procedure couldn't be done until at least 6 weeks PP (unless for some reason I had a c-section) but talking to my mom this afternoon scared me a bit, she said the recovery from her tubal was extremely painful.

I am,  @MDmomma1217. My OB had me do the paperwork a few weeks ago so that IF the surgeons have time while I'm in the hospital (if delivery w/o a c section) , we can get it done. Otherwise I will have to schedule it as a later surgery.

My sister had hers done after her 5th and didn't have any trouble with recovery + newborn and 4 other kids.
  • Thanks @erin7264. I go back on Friday, maybe I should ask what the process is for paperwork if I could have it done sooner rather than later.
  • I have an interview in the morning and I can't sleep because I'm so anxious.  I've been super excited and confident until tonight and it finally hit me how much I'm relying on this job to work out.
  • @theshannondee - also had the Mirena x 2 (total
of eight years) and loved it. Totally forgot it was in there and after a few weeks of initial spotting never got a period again. I get super emotional on oral BCPs and never had a problem with the IUD. I did have a copper IUD briefly, which I recommend against as it causes pretty heavy periods and is not as effective. I plan on getting another Mirena after this baby. The first insertion was painful but apparently its not for most women who have delivered before.
  • @sboston06 same here. Last night LO went bonkers for almost an hour. I thought it was gunna lead to something labour like but no dice.
  • For all ladies that have had the Mirena- did it interfere with breastfeeding at all?

I've heard mixed reviews so I would love to hear thoughts from those that have had it and continued to bf.

  • @jwittwer- I had Nuvaring before DD and loved it but it isn't recommended with breastfeeding.  After DD I went with Mirena and had no troubles breastfeeding. I breastfed DD for 18 months.

If you're breastfeeding I think you're limited to the progestin-only contraceptives like Mirena, the mini pill, depo-provera (the shot), and Implanon (thing that goes in your arm -- that creeps me out like woah!!) Or condoms I guess. I'm going with Mirena this time -- I did the mini pill last time and I don't think it interfered with breastfeeding although I've heard it can drop your supply a bit.
  • I got Mirena 8weeks PP and it was glorious. Placement wasn't too painful. It was fine for 4.5 years at which point it moved slightly and the strings disappeared. Knowing I wanted more children I opted to get it removed and go on the mini-pill for a year before TTC. I would do it again but I don't plan on having more children and am looking for more permanent solutions. It never interfered with breastfeeding for me.

I feel you! I hate sex  right now and have for a while.  I feel huge and unsightly.  I guess that's the wrong word because I can definitely be sighted.  My DH finally gave up I think.  Sometimes I let it hurt my feelings but I think after our last few attempts not going so well (he had a broken rib too, which made matters worse) He's just put it off until after the baby comes.  I'm just so over this.

Husband put together the crib and I missed it. But I figure, if the urge to sleep hits, take it!!

  • I've had the mirena twice and would recommend it! I bled quite a bit for a few months after the first time and my doc left the strings really long and they felt like razors for the first 2 days (until they softened), but other than those two things the first time around, it was wonderful and the 2nd time I got it I had neither issue! I was also one that didn't get a period really (maybe some very slight spotting - panty liner only) but not even that every month. I nursed both of my kids for a year + on the mirena without any trouble. Overall would highly recommend it!
  • I know there's a GD thread but I looked and it was last commented back on June 19th so I didn't want to bump it...
My random for the week is my glucose number. Randomly went from not being able to eat 2 carb choices without being over or very very close to able to eat 3 and it's still low. Just when I thought I had it figured out!

  • @LF93 I would've immediately kicked my DH in the balls if he called me an Ogre... but I have no patience right now so that's just me.
  • @LF93 Men have no filter.
  • @LF93 sounds like my DH.  Yesterday we went somewhere and when we came home he parked to close to the car.  I told him that and he says "No, i think you're fine." So i try and get out and can't fit.  Even worse, almost got stuck.  He found it funny and i told him to F off and go inside so that I could climb over the seat and hop out the other side with some dignity.  He was nice to me for the rest of the day because he knew he messed up.
