Baby Names

Bennett

Can I get some opinions on this name? This is a family name on my husband's side and he recently mentioned it as a possible first name for our son due later this year. I'm not familiar with this name at all but it's growing on me and I love the nick name options. Middle name would probably be Tyler after DH.

We have been having the hardest time with names and the fact that he chose one I like is major. How do you think it pairs with sibling Susannah.

Thanks!

Re: Bennett

  • I think it pairs fine with Susannah. I personally don't care for it because it's just a surname to me, but it's not a name I'd roll my eyes at.
  • Loading the player...
  • I think it sounds great! I know many girls who have used their maiden names as their baby's first name (Sullivan, Simmons, Norman), so I don't think there is any sort of taboo using a name that could be construed as a last name.
  • I just find it incredibly trendy and my thought when hearing it isn't that it's a family name but that the parents thought it sounded cool and unique

  • I'm not a huge fan but it doesn't bother me, either. I just think Susannah should be paired with something else traditional yet unique... Bennett isn't something I'd side-eye, but it's not as great as Susannah.
  • I like Bennett. It is a surname (which won't get a lot of love here) but it isn't too trendy or pretentious, which is what I hate about any surname names. I think it's a nice pair with Susannah.
  • I love Bennett. I'm in the South where it is a name you hear often as a first name.

It didn't occur to me that it is usually a surname since I know 4 people named Bennett ranging from 2-34. It think of it like Barrett or Beckett, except Bennett has the ability to be shortened to Ben. I also like the Pride and Prejudice connotation (Elizabeth Bennett).
  • I don't particularly like it, it's trendy and has started to be used for both male and female children-not that I am against neutral names, I just know that matters to some.
  • I know one family with Bennett as their last name, and one family with a little boy Bennett as first name. I don't mind it, and like the option of Ben as a nn.
  • I like it. I especially like the family significance and i think it pairs well with your dd's name.

  • I think it's right in line with the trendiness that is "surnames as first names". Susannah is a beautiful, classic name so I don't think it pairs at all. The only perk is that it has Ben as a nn option and I love Benjamin, nn Ben or Benny.
