Thought it might be fun to do a throwback Thursday thread! Let's post an old photo (or two), and then a story to go with it.
I'll go....
I did a hike in Sedona back in like 2012 with my ex and we hiked to Devil's Bridge:
Right before the hike, I found a baby bird in the parking lot. We tried putting her back on a tree away from cars and danger, but she kept flying down to the street, and I was terrified she'd get run over. So I took her with me on the hike:
Took her back to the airbnb we were staying at, and fed her chewed up cantaloupe (like a mommy birdie would!) She slept on the lamp the entire night. We brought her back the following day to the parking lot we found her in and put her up in a tree where her mommy would find her.... I was so sad to say goodbye... and that was when I realized, I was ready to be a mommy! (it didn't happen with my ex despite a year or so of trying). When I split with my ex, I had given up the idea of having kids...
So fast forward to this year, I wasn't expecting to get KU... and now I am... and it takes me back to this moment in my life when I first realized I wanted to be a mom.
This is me at Nationals in the middle of the final race. I used to hate this picture because it looks like I am going to eat someone's face off (starting with some chick who wears ribbons in her hair at a sporting event -aah!), but now I love it. I am usually the least tough-looking person ever but clearly I can turn it on when I need it
Also, this is clearly a professional photo - I'm not breaking any laws if the copyright is on it, right?
This picture was in November 2008 about a month after DH and I started dating. We had a powderpuff football game every year (and my class won every year since freshman year) and I begged DH to cheer. Surprisingly not only did he cheer, he wore a wig and had a lot of fun doing it. He also had to wear the biggest available cheer uniform and it wouldn't zip.
I love throwback Thursday! H and I are high school sweethearts so we have some fun ones. The picture on the left is from the Jersey Shore summer 2004. The one on the right is from a friends wedding in 2014. We didn't find the photostrip from 2004 until H's parents moved at the end of 2015, so we thought it was pretty funny that 10 years apart we still take pretty much the exact same photobooth pics!
@annabenanna My FIL brought him home from an oil rig 2 years ago, they took him to a reserve 6 months ago. His name was "Bucko", and he once got out of the yard and police chased him around the town my in-laws live in for 2 hours trying to figure out why he kept circling the neighborhood until he finally jumped on the front door for my MIL to let him in the house!
These are pictures from the last 2 years' Halloween costumes. My friend and I make our costumes each year and it's so much fun! Aside from just loving the chance to craft something, she and I love that our fun costumes makes it so that we start conversations with new people and get to meet and make friends because of the conversation topic that is always our costumes. I'm super outgoing and love meeting new people so put that together with crafting and I'm in heaven Extra fun fact, I am terrified of sharks, so our Shark Week costume last year was actually my favorite. Plus, who doesn't love Shark Week?! (and yes, we had a full week's worth of sharks for Shark Week... I was Wednesday)
We only had one wig, so that got passed around all night
This is DH and I at one of the breweries in Asheville, NC, where we spent Halloween last year.
The side view of these magnificent costumes
Most of the group before going out (Saturday wasn't around for this shot )
@bnsmith85 I LOVE Halloween and Halloween costumes!!! Love the shark week idea. So funny, last year, we were at a Halloween Party and my best friend ended up meeting a guy from the Jamaican Bob Sled Team (well he was dressed up as one of them).. and they're still together up to today. Told her if they got married, the wedding needs to be Halloween themed. Also, i'm a little sad I probably will not be getting dressed up for Halloween this year.
@annabenanna ... omg, I know! I'm so disappointed that Halloween is probably just going to be out of the question for me this year. If we end up being able to swing a costume this year, I think I'll dress as a pinata. I made a pinata shirt to wear while I was up at our corporate office for Theme Thursday/cinco de Mayo this year (I know, I'm a really professional boss lol) and my team loved it... so at least I know it'll go over well
Edited to delete the question I asked you b/c I re-read what you posted and got my answer
Throwback to the day before I got my BFP. I ran the "Joe Cain Classic" 5k that morning, went to a Mardi Gras parade that day with my mom and DH (who looks like a creeper in that photo lol), then went to another parade that night with DH. It was a crazy fun day!
The last picture (bottom right) is of that night after we got home. We had been noticing how clingy our sweet Molly girl had been toward me for days and that night was no exception. She's not allowed on the couch (her nails rip the fabric), but she just HAD to touch me. She stayed like that for a while, then I couldn't stand it anymore and had to get down on the floor and snuggle her. I may sound like a total yahoo, but I think she totally knew I was pregnant before I did!
I love throwback posts! The first picture, is the first picture I posted of us on Facebook after we officially began dating. We had been dating several months before that point, and we started dating after both of us had just recently came out of long term relationships of 4-6 years! The second is us still being silly on our wedding day. Im so glad even when things aren't as easy and fun as they used to be, we can still goof off and laugh together. The last is our most current picture, with our little boy, pregnant with our little girl
Love this idea! This is from our Mad Men themed Christmas party in 2014 (I'm the blonde in the bow dress). I LOVE theme parties/dressing up and I have so many good memories from this night. We had a mid-century menu which was...interesting. I don't know what everyone has against fish Jell-O molds
I wanted to share a picture of my favorite Halloween costume but DH
& I are both wearing wigs and I realized you ladies have never seen
my face before this!
#tbt to Mardis Gras when it was too early to know if we were pregnant so we had my boss and her husband dance around us with sage - all completely drunk after the parade.
I love this idea too! Right now I don't have a lot of cool pictures, like baby birds or baby deers (both of you, seriously! can I have your lives?!?!), but this will give you an idea of who I am lol <--- ruh roh!
I took this picture at my ex's apartment when I was about 24 - it became my "hottie" picture that I used to date after I finally came to the conclusion my ex was an asshole. Let's just say it did me very well! lol but it doesn't truly represent me.
My girlfriend and I are from Canada, so we decided one year to partake in Black Friday. We went to Buffalo, got a motel for $50 a night (split, not each), and went shopping. Our motel was right out of a horror movie, missing numbers on the door, the sink outside of the bathroom that didn't even work, and gross dingy bedding where we decided to sleep in our clothes (even though we only crashed for 2 hours before hitting the next store). This was me probably shortly after arriving considering the lack of bags littering the floor. This was the start of our tradition, which unfortunately stopped 2 years ago due to her bitchola of an aunt that forced her way into our outings and I couldn't be around the negativity that long anymore.
And then there is now! This was taken after 13 hours of sleep and 3 shots of espresso (before BFP) in one of the classrooms I work out of. Yea I'm one that one friend everyone has that is as surprised as what comes out of my mouth as you are. Came a long way since my hottie picture lol but at least this is a true representation.
This tbt is from November 2014 at the shower for our DD. I was eight months pregnant and remember thinking why in the actual eff did I wait so late for my shower because I was so big and so uncomfortable. It was so beautiful, though, and our moms did an amazing job with everything. It was also the only time I've ever gotten DH to wear pink!
PS I also think the awkward Prom-y tummy grab from my husband is pretty funny and cute, hahah.
Some homemade costumes are amazing. Some not so much. My mom tried. She really did. Here I am as grapes. No idea what my sister is supposed to be. Maybe a princess? My brother is just a cute baby.
And just to be a braggy bragerton, here's the costume I made my son for his first Halloween in 2014.
@LauraPCOS, I love the Laura-come-hither-look from when you were 24! Also, I'm jealous you have a Black Friday tradition (or had one). None of my friends ever wanna go.
@ignoscemihi , OMG, that is the BEST costume!!! Did you crochet it? knit it? Teach me your ways!
I just kinda winged the cuffs. The chest plate is sewn from a pillowcase (blue) and felt (red). And my husband made the sword with cardboard and tinfoil.
Last year, I made him an Elvis jumpsuit (from an old shirt of my husbands and rhinestones which cost an arm and a leg) with a knitted wig (which he wore for about three seconds):
This year's going to be tough since we'll have two to make. Might have to start now. Any ideas?
@ignoscemihi, OMG girl you go ALLLLLL out! I'm so impressed! And that Elvis costume? Dayum! Must start thinking of ideas for this year! Are you gonna make one for the newborn too?!?!?!?!
My husband doesn't like to dress up, so I put all my Halloween energy into my son. I was hoping to make two costumes this year, but my husband thinks they should go together, so I'm trying to think of famous male duos. Siegfried and Roy? The Blues Brothers? Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr (too soon?)?
Back when Carrot Top and I were long lost lovers for 3 seconds on the hotel floor.
The day little baby Harpsicle was transferred.
And since we are sharing Halloween costumes, last years. My SILs and I had the girls within months of each other so we do a joint costume every year. Last year was so fun!
I think this is a great idea! Before I got pregnant I was really into running. I'd done 5Ks, 15Ks and a half marathon. This is about 2 years ago my husband convinced me to do a Tough Mudder, 12 miles, 26 obstacles...well earned free beer! Checked it off my list and don't think I'll be doing another one!
It's a bit blurry, but this was our first halloween together after about a month of dating, in 2012. I was a lion tamer and he was the lion. He really pulled out all the stops to impress me by renting an actual mascot lion costume lol, head isn't pictured, but it was a full costume.
the first is my favorite Halloween costume, which sadly perished in hurricane sandy. the second is our honeymoon and the third is me and our holiday themed lawn flamingo.
lol @bnsmith85 inbox me I'll show you! and @spaceburger if it wasn't at the bottom of the ocean I would buy the baby a matching one I wore it 5 years in a row!!!!
10 years ago with my husband (then boyfriend) holding his oldest nephew - now he's (obviously) ten and the youngest is five - I wish my kids were closer in age to their cousins, but husband's brother is seven years older than him, so there was bound to be a difference
