Trouble TTC

New to board.. Taking a year and feeling alone

Hi, I'm not new to the Bump but I haven't used the boards much before now.  I just feel so alone when it comes to having trouble TTC.  Like other people have said it feels like there are constant pregnancy and birth announcements.  My husband and I have been trying for about a year and I'm about ready to call a specialist.  I just got AF today and I'm feeling so down right now I'm afraid I'll start crying if I call now to make the appointment.

TTC is hard, especially when you hit the year mark. Calling an RE is a big step. Instead of calling an RE now, I would call your OB or MW and ask for a recommendation. Typically RE's won't take call-ins without a referral from your OB/MW. Once you get the referall an RE will start with a SA to rule out a sperm quality issue and then do your cycle blood work

  • Hello!  You are not alone, most of us on this board have been trying for over a year.  Once I started testing I felt like I had more control over the situation.  What part of the world are you from?  If you are in the states see if your insurance covers fertility testing.  If not, you may want to go to your primary or OBGYN to get some blood work and and u/s done so your insurance will cover it.  My partner had his SA done through his PCP.  Good luck, you are with friends over here who know what you are going through.
TTC since May 2015 with domestic partner of 13 years. Me 33 OH 33.  No ovulation or natural menstruation. Normal SA.

Although this is a good idea, some (actually both of my REs) won't accept outside test results. Many have to have results from tests that their lab/REs conducted themselves. So before wasting time and money doing tests with your OB/MW/PCP make sure you find out if the RE will even accept them.

I definitely think it's a good idea to ask before you have your OB do any tests. My OB ran a bunch of tests last fall to rule out PCOS, thyroid/testosterone/prolactin issues, and Cushing's. My RE accepted those results without question, and he eliminated some of the "standard" bloodwork they do because I had good results last fall.

  • I'm so sorry, but I'm glad you are here with us. My DH and I are jusr past the year mark too and it was so difficult. I actually had a big messy cry at my OB/GYNs office and the staff were so amazing. Remember, they have seen it all (and worse) before. Don't be ashamed of crying in front of them. Sending you lots of love. Let us know how your appointment with the RE goes! ❤️
