Hip Pain

Anyone else having hip pain at night? I feel fine sitting or standing but I constantly have to rotate at night. I have a feeling it is only going to get worse

Re: Hip Pain

  • I have mild discomfort when I sit at my desk too long. My hips don't bother me at night as much as a weird feeling in my stomach, maybe ligament tension, I have no idea. But I sleep with a pillow btwn my legs so if you aren't doing that perhaps start. That will help take a little pressure off you hips and back. If you are already doing that maybe add a gentle yoga routine before bed to stretch everything out really well.

  • I second the pillow. I just got one of them regular body pillows that I wrap myself around, and I sleep far better with it than without. Hubby's a little mad that he's been squeezed out by the pillow, but he'll live.
  • Yes. But mine is all the time. When I walk it feels like it's dislocated or I get shooting pain down the back of my butt from my hipbone. Lying on it is hard for long periods. I've dealt with this before with my bursitis. Try stretching it out or a prenatal massage or yoga.
  • Last go round I actually ended up buying a cheapie memory form mattress topper from Walmart for $50 and I found it helped my hip pain.  That and all the pillows!

  • @kristah2 definitely run it by your Dr at the next appointment. There is a potential that there could be something else going on. In the meantime, I would try the pillows to see of it alleviates some of the discomfort. My other go to when things ache is an Epsom salt bath.
  • Yes!  My SIL gave me a snoogle and it has helped but I like to snuggle H falling asleep so it only really helps when I rotate to the other side.  I also got a prenatal massage once I was in my 2nd tri and that really helped.  She gave me some stretches to do that helps.  I don't do them every day but when I hurt in the AM it helps a lot.

While I can't empathize on the hip pain, I just want to make a plea here @sarac986... There's a thread specifically for this kind of thing here: https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12680443/weekly-symptoms-thread-6-19-6-25#latest so that the front page of the board isn't clutter with individual threads. In fact, no one has chosen to post there, but rather make their own threads, which is why we can't find anything that already exists on this BMB.

So that we don't feel like this:

    Welcomed baby girl: 06.10.14
Second pregnancy EDD: 06.16.16 MC: 10.29.15
    Welcomed baby boy: 11.25.16
  • Mine have been hurting quite a bit, but mostly sleeping. I've had hip issues before from my hamstrings being tight (and they're all connected), so I started stretching more and I'm signing up for yoga.  The pillows only help a little, for some reason it's having room in the bed that helps. With a dog, H, and I all in the queen, it's too cramped and my hips end up hurting  (maybe from lack of movement.)

  • I'm getting it all the time.  Swimming has helped me

  • This is my most painful and difficult pregnancy symptom. I had it last time too. Like others have said, a pillow in between the legs at night is the key. I also find stretching my hip and the back of my legs daily helps as well.
