WTF Wednesday (June 15)

Re: WTF Wednesday (June 15)

  • @krzyriver I'm so angry on your behalf right now! I get angry with anyone who tries to be judgey about pregnancy with almost anything. Unless you're smoking a pack of cigs while downing a fifth of Jack and shooting up some heroine, people need to BACK OFF!

Having some deli meat, taking a hot shower, having a small glass of wine with dinner, chugging a Starbucks latte... all things that pregnant women can do and decide for themselves if they want to do.

I hope you shot that guy some lasers out of your eyeballs, Cyclops style!

WTF to the Jimmy Johns employee who just made my sandwich. He goes "Aren't pregnant women not supposed to eat deli meat?" And when I told him I usually don't, but nothing else sounds good he got all judgey and kept giving me this weird look. Back off dude! I feel like shit! And I've been eating lunch meat for 28 years and never gotten listeria, I'm sure I'll be fine.

ahhh stuck in the box as usual. I'm surprised he even knows this. Maybe his SO has been pregnant. Most people stare at me with a weird look when I say I can't have deli meat while pregnant.

Edited to add that I hope you enjoyed your sandwich!!!

UGGGGGGGGH.  That would make me so ragey.  There's way more listeria in freaking sunflower seeds/granola bars/frozen veggies right now than there is in deli meat.  More importantly, it is none of his damn business!!!!!!!!!!  I intend to continue visiting Potbelly weekly for the foreseeable future, and to anybody who gives me an OUNCE of trouble about it .  .  .

  • WTF..so we just bought a house and moved in this past weekend (sorry for lack of activity, it's been a busy busy week with this!)

So I noticed water in the garage yesterday morning and asked FI to check it out. He said appears to be a leak and called our warranty company. So they come out today, take a look behind the sheetrock in the garage, and the previous owners had shelves hung and screwed into the pipe!!!! Once they undid the screws and moved out, and everytime we use our master shower, water leaks out of it. Warranty wont cover it and want to charge $400 to get it fixed.
  • @mizzkbrat Lame! I would find out what size pipe you need to replace that portion then go to Lowes. Or, if your H can weld or you guys have a friend who can weld, have them go patch it. Then just replace the square of sheetrock that has water damage, those aren't too much at Lowes =) it would save you a butt load of money that way.
  • Seems like you can never catch a break!
  • @mizzkbrat WTF! That's ridiculous! I really hope you find a way where you don't have to pay for that. What a pain.

@krzyriver I would be so pissed. I've been craving a turkey sandwich and I think I'm gonna get one for lunch tomorrow, in honor of you.

  • @MRSCORKER ummm...is this wedding a hoe-down? Why on earth would she buy you a dress, denim no less, for a wedding that you've already said you can't make it to? And whether or not you've gained weight, there's this thing where the belly starts to stick out, which means we're bigger and clothes start not fitting so well - so mind your own business, lady!!  I think I would ignore her calls/texts for a few days...maybe she'll get the hint to calm the F down??

lol, I don't think the denim dress was for the wedding. They were two seperate WTF moments. But I love the idea of a hoe down wedding, I might take off of work for that!

WTF to my Step-Mother...she won't stop asking me about a baby shower. I've told her to talk to my mom, I'm not planning my own baby shower so I cannot answer her questions. If my Mom doesn't get back to her right away, she goes back to asking me. I STILL DON'T HAVE ANSWERS FOR YOU, CALM DOWN. Then, she keeps emailing me about her brothers wedding. It's his 3rd wedding and he's 60 so when I heard it was on a random Thursday in August, I figured they were going to the courthouse or something. Nope. They're doing a whole big thing and expect guests. In the middle of a Thursday afternoon. I told her I could not attend because I have limited PTO and I'm saving it for maternity leave. Yet, she still keeps emailing me asking if I got the evite. THEN... she texts me and says she bought a denim dress (?!?!?) that will probably fit me. She hasn't seen me in months so I told her it probably wouldn't fit because I'm starting to get big. Her response... "How much weight have you gained? What is your target weight gain per doctor? Back in the day it was 25-30 lbs." I've gained go set yourself on fire lbs. That's how much I've gained. Also, I don't think I would want a denim dress even if I wasn't pregnant. I'm not a Duggar. <end rant>
So, sorry your mother in law is being batshit, but this is hilarious.  It's unfortunate that our entertainment is coming at the expense of your annoyance -- but the way this is written is highly, highly entertaining.  Good luck telling her, hopefully in the nicest way possible, to GTFO with respect to weekday weddings, denim dresses, weight comments, and other such ridiculousness!

  • Okay and activate hyperventilating hard core!  So spoke to my boss, who investigated, and passed me on to the head of continuing education, whom is responsible for hiring for summer school.  Yea if you only care about the short version (as my husband says) I am fucked out of the job, long version - keep reading.  She told me that she is aware that this is a new procedure, and she is the one that actually changed it because she wanted my speciality as well as several other specialities within the board to be recognized, so they made sure there was a posting for summer school interpreters this year which was never the case.  In the weekly summary emails that we get (but who honestly reads??? after all the crap in them NEVER pertains to me or my job), it listed the jobs that will be posted for summer school, and then the job was posted for 3 months, closing April 30.  She realizes that I wouldn't be watching the job opportunity boards, because why would I?  I have a permanent position that is centralized at my school, so it's not as if I even could apply for a change of location.  She said that to follow union rules, she has to first look at all the permanent applicants, and in this case there was none, which then means she has to look at the contract employees that applied, and there was 1 - and since there were 2 positions and only 1 applicant, she was forced to give the person the job.  Now in the case of the second position - there was no one else that applied, so it goes to other board employees that might be qualified, and since both myself and the other interpreter emailed the summer school guy expressing interest, it came down to us, and the other one has more sonority.  So ya - hence fucked!  Yup royally, dress me in purple and slap my ass cause I'm done fucked!

Now she did mention she's trying to find deaf blind interveners - which I have worked closely with deaf blind in the past, but depending on what the students' need for communication is, I may or may not be able to provide support.  Now the thing is, it's only for 2 weeks instead of 4 - and yes 2 is better than none, but it still leaves me 6 weeks without.

I now have 2 options and in both cases they suck (the latter more though).

Option 1 is to go to a temp agency and see if they have a job for a temporary receptionist, even if I have to go to several different locations - just plop me in front of a phone and answer it.  In all honesty, I would love to do a job like that, and I don't care what the pay is cause at this point something is more than nothing, and I would need to be able to sit, because being plus sized out of shape pregnant lady in a sitting position now, I don't think my poor ankles could handle being put into a standing position for the next 8 weeks (starting July).  But this is assuming they have a position and they would hire someone temporarily.

Option 2 is to start my mat leave June 30, which will give me my unemployment insurance for the next 52 weeks, and even though it means that come June 30th next year, I will be without income, I am now aware that the summer school interpreting positions are being posted, so I will make sure I actually apply.  Yes I will have 8-9 month old, but my mom said she has 3 weeks vacation, and if she has to she will take off all 3 weeks so she can baby sit, and then we'll see if my dad will do the last week, then I'll be off the month of August.  BUT if there are no students taking summer school, I'll be back to option 1, just a year later.

You know what is overly awesome about this whole situation, and note the word "awesome" is dripping in more sarcasm that my dog drooling watching us eat pizza??  When people were asking me if I was excited about my mat leave coming up, I would honestly answer no, that I was terrified because I don't know how I'm going to do it financially, but I always said "But we'll make it work" because I knew that with the money we brought in, as much as it will be tight and sacrifices will need to be made, it was do-able, but now, if I can't get something for July and August, there is no physical way that we can do it considering one of my husband's cheques doesn't even cover our rent.

I'm so beyond freaked out at the moment, that Dairy Queen is no longer appetizing.  Anyone wanna rent my husband??

  • Wtf at my adolescent dog who is constantly getting herself into trouble and always has surprises for us...all of a sudden today, her paw is red and swollen, she won't really put weight on it, and she cries and snaps at DH when he tries to touch it just to take a look at it. Wtf, bc the week was going pretty smoothly so of course...  :s
  • WTF at people who apply to things past the deadline. I've had three emails today, all stating "I know it's past the deadline, but can you..." No. I can't. There's a hard deadline for a reason, and it's because we work with other departments.

I know that one person in particular is going to pitch a fit, but I can't bring myself to care. She's known about the deadline for a month now, and has been going to different people, trying to get a different answer. Grrr.

  • WTF self?! This happened yesterday and I'm still mad. I was craving an iced coffee on my way to a meeting so I stopped at McDonalds and got one. I went to the valet service at the hospital where my meeting was and unloaded DS and all my gear and hand the guy my keys. When I arrived at my meeting I realized that I had forgotten my delicious coffee on top of the car when I unloaded it and left. I nearly cried. The worst part is that when I picked up my car I could still see where it had hit the ground.  :'(

Thais for all the empathy guys, trying to stay positive about the job situation. But because today has just been a crappy day, I need to add to my WTFs. About an hour ago, DH tells me that he has invited some people over tomorrow night for dinner & to watch the US Men's soccer match. And by "some" he means 15-20. I'm exhausted from this day already, but now I'm trying to scramble & get the house in order for tomorrow. Just needed to take a quick break to whine... Thanks for letting me vent!

@MRSCORKER omg that is ridiculous, and LOL to the dugger comment and hoe down comment haha! My MIL and husband's grandmother have asked me several times how much I've gained! WTH. I really don't care so I tell them but I just dont understand why they think it's ok to ask. I know they would never ask SIL something like that, God forbid.

It's hard to tag the appropriate people here on mobile but I just wanted to say I'm sorry to those dealing with work stress. It REALLY SUCKS and seems really unfair and I hope it works out for you all.

  • @Kaessi that really sucks. I'm sorry about your job, and I really hate when my husband does stuff like that. He always says, oh I'll clean up, but he never does it well enough for company, so I still end up running around like a crazy person.

@LauraPCOS I am so sorry. Hope you are able to find something quickly.

  • @LGW2015 The thing is, I don't even know what I've gained. I don't look when they weigh me at my appts, I just told the doctor to let me know if she's concerned and she hasn't said a word so I guess im good. It is pretty crazy that people think it's ok to ask.

  • @LauraPCOS That is so stressful and unfair. Where  are you located? Maybe someone on here knows of an opportunity in your area. Example, if you live in Pittsburgh, Miami, or several other locations, I know people looking for help with yard- and housework off the top of my head. And maybe you could look into being a summer nanny for slightly older kids? I did that one summer and it was basically driving the kids around and making lunch - very pregnancy-friendly!

  • @LauraPCOS Just hopped back on this thread and want to say, first of all, I am so sorry you're dealing with this. Getting ready for baby and knowing maternity leave is coming is stressful enough. Also, I second the nanny suggestion. I used to be a nanny and was always on Care.com. It is probably flooded with job postings for summer help right now. What they'll want from you (and how much they're willing to pay) will depend on the family, but if I remember correctly, summertime was great because there were so many desperate people that I could be picky about who I wanted to work for.

  • WTF to last night. DH is traveling and weird things NEVER happen when he's in town. My doorbell rang late last night, I was in bed and the house was locked up, but I had left the front lights on to discourage this kind of thing. The dog went nuts of course. I didn't answer the door or even leave my room, but I did text my neighbor to make sure it wasn't her. As I texted her, her doorbell rang. She was also home alone with her baby, but her husband was in town so she called him to come home. He got home and didn't see anyone around thank goodness. We are assuming that it was just some kids on summer break that were bored, but that is NOT an okay game to play!

I ended up sleeping through the night anyway, which surprised me. Thanks pregnancy exhaustion!

  • @LauraPCOS I'm so sorry you're going through this. It seems very fishy to me that they all of a sudden changed the procedure the year you are pregnant. Do you have any suspicions that this was pregnancy related?  If so, some research into the pregnancy discrimination act and pointed questioning might help?
  • @ibabyloveb87 I would have been up all night CERTAIN that somebody was watching the house and my imagination would just further thicken the conspiracy... That is so weird, and frustrating! I'm glad you were able to talk to your neighbor.
  • I know it's Thursday but I can't help myself. Warning, it's another long one.

WTF doctors and hospitals not communicating! My husband has some chronic health issues that we end up in the ER every few months. Nothing serious, just endless vomiting that needs IV meds to stop.

The last few times he has had a high white blood cell count that no one can seem to figure out through xray, CT, blood culture, or urine culture. I wrote to his Primary Care Doctor about it and asked to get a baseline drawn when we aren't in the hospital to see what they look like on a "normal" day, thinking maybe things are high because of stress and dehydration, etc...

After some back and forth and confusion on my part as to why the Primary Care had no idea about the elevated hospital test results, the message back from his office basically said that the hospital doctor should have talked to us about the elevated levels and given us a follow up plan. Well they did and basically shrugged their shoulders and said they have no idea and to follow up with our doc.

We always do follow up by having the Primary Care Doctor's office fax all the labs, testing, etc... to the GI's office because for these specific episodes that's who the Primary Care has asked us to follow up with. But apparently no one at the Primary Care's office looks these over when they fax this information? And no one from the hospital wrote the Primary Care a message to say hey, your patient's numbers are elevated you might want to look into that because we have no idea why? What drives me extra crazy is that the Primary Care and the hospital we use are in the same medical network, so they all share the same information, meaning the Primary Care can see my husband's testing, etc... in real time. So on one hand, we aren't supposed to take control of our own healthcare because asking for testing is weird (although he did say in the end that he would write the order, so that's awesome), but then we are supposed to take control by making sure the Primary Care reviews the high numbers.

Maybe I'm overreacting and pregnancy hormones are getting the best of me. I know that I have no idea about the goings on in the back office of a primary care physician practice and I know they are busy. It was just one of those dumb things yesterday and this morning that drove me absolutely crazy.
