This is a weekly check-in for those in their 1st trimester: weeks 1 through the end of week 13. I know we've all gone through a lot to get to this point so congratulations and best of luck to all of you over the next several months!

Please post a little about yourself, your EDD (if it’s not listed below- if I left you off please let me know )  any upcoming appointments, symptoms, etc. Feel free to also share your IF journey, I know many of us can relate.

QOTW:
okay, I'm having a hard time thinking of a new question and making sure my niece and nephew don't drown in the pool. What are you all curious about this week?

  • QOTW - I'm constantly wondering if my lack of morning sickness is a blessing or a concern. I had one case of vomiting last week but have been ok since then. I get nausea here and there but nothing bad. Sometimes I'll just feel iffy but not to the point of vomiting. I'm at 8w1d so not sure what to expect at this point.

  • @tulips29 I've had no sickness. Never felt nauseous ever. And I see it as a blessing. Completely. I can still function and go to work and exercise and go on with my day.
I'm wondering about my first obgyn appt this Friday. I really hope I get some confirmation that the baby is still ok. It's been two weeks since I've seen a doctor.

  • QOTW: I'm curious about body pillows - Has anyone gotten a sleeping body pillow yet? If so, any suggestions? I'm a back sleeper and DH is starting to make a big deal about sleeping on my side...It's just so uncomfortable for me...

  • Sumo2519 - I just bought a Snoogle total body pillow. I've only used it once but my sister in law used hers all of the time. Technically you really don't have to start sleeping on your side until the 2nd trimester but I know that you are not supposed to sleep on your back after the 1st trimester. I move around all of the time in my sleep so I have a hard time keeping one position to sleep in.

  • @Drove2u that makes me feel better, thanks. How far along will you be at your OB appointment this Friday? I believe you might be close to the end of your 1st trimester, right?  I know it's hard to feel relaxed but maybe think that you've made this so far, and everything is ok so you should be fine.

oh the body pillow information is good, I agree. I'm also mostly a back sleeper but I've been forcing myself to sleep on my side more and more.

@dragonfaerie I think I got lucky and my appetite is returning to normal already. I've only had low grade nausea as my afternoon sickness, but there was a good few weeks where I only wanted bland and boring foods. Now I'm starting to get my taste back for more flavorful things!

@tulips29 I keep getting worried on the days that I do not feel any MS or have other symptoms. As annoying as it is, I feel more pregnant and less worried when I'm feeling the nausea.

@drove2u that is great that you have been feeling so good. There are some days when just the thought of walking around the block is too much! Ok, it's not that bad, but I have been so tired!

@Sumo2519 great question! I'm going to need a body pillow soon! Currently I have been using 3 pillows when going to bed. I have bad lower back problems, which were only made worse by not being able to do yoga for a while, so have already been super uncomfortable whole sleeping (but since starting yoga again it's been much better). I'm very interested to know if anyone has reviews for any.

I went last night and visited the hospital I will probably be delivering in. I switched OBGYNs and this is the only hospital she works out of. It is a really nice hospital, all the rooms are private (there are only about 16 rooms), the only thing is, if there are any issues, they do not have a NICU, the baby would have to be transferred to another hospital, which is only diwn the block. I have to figure out if I am okay with that. Anyone else been on a hospital tour yet?

  • @vssbrm that's a great question about hospital visits. I keep holding my fingers crossed until the end of the first trimester that everything will be ok, and then I can focus on hospitals. Although my OB only delivers at 1 hospital as well. He came highly recommended from others and I hear this hospital has a really good maternity ward, so I think I'm most likely sticking with him and the hospital. I just went on the hospital's website and they offer labor and delivery tours during 3rd trimester.

  • @vssbrm - I don't think my hospital does visits until a little later. I was contemplating the same thing about maybe switching OB's only because mine is about 40 minutes from where I will be moving in October. The only problem is that the hospital I will currently be delivering at is one of the best rated in Phoenix so in the end it might be worth it to stay where I'm at. Plus it's only about 15 minutes from my work which is nice for my appointments.

  • @vssbrm Glad you are feeling better! I'll hold out hope that I start feeling better soon! That's neat that you went on your hospital tour already. I'm going to call the OB that referred me to my RE and see if I can still use her. She delivers at a hospital that I live very close to so I would like to go back to her if possible.

I'm mostly a side sleeper but I had started to train myself to sleep on my back since it's good for you. But I kept waking myself up last night because I'd flop onto my back. Gah! I told DH it's time for me to get a body pillow like he has so that I'll stay on my side.

I asked a ton of questions about their process for if a NICU team is needed, since they don't have one here, they had answers for everything. They have the receiving hospital send an ambulance w/ the Doc, nurses, and someone else and all the equipment they may need so they can start doing whatever they need to in the ambulance. Also asked about how the nurses worked, you get the same nurse dedicated to you when the are on shift. A ton of questions about their natur birth facilities. We actually asked about the beds in the regular rooms and they demonstrated all the features on it. The rooms there are labor delivery and recovery, so they do not move you to new rooms for each stage. So the beds have a squat bar that can be added, the "stirrups" a built-in, there are a few other birthing features on them as well. My 2nd biggest questions were about security. Their security is amazing. All babies wear an ankle bracelet. If it does not have full contact w the skin the alarm goes off, if the bracket comes too close to exit doors or the elevators everything locks diwn and security is called. The mother wears a corresponding braclet, so if the wrong baby gets brought to your room it also alarms. I asked about the food. About visitor protocol. About the process of being released. A lot of questions just naturally popped up.

    to summarize:

    1. If there is an emergency during labor delivery what facilities are available and that is the procedure?

    2. Security?

    3. Are the rooms private?

    4. Food?

    5. Visitor protocol?

    6. Where does dad sleep?

    7. Natural vs. medicated birthing amenities?

    8. Are the rooms all in one? Labor, deliver, recovery and hanging out.

    9. Nursing staff? How many, do you get dedicated nurses, how many nurses per patient?

    10. Is there a lactation consultant on staff? Is there donor milk available if breastfeeding is not working out easily. Most donated breast milk is reserved for NICUs.

    11. And anything else that pops up... There were so many other questions asked!

  • Thanks. I don't think this will even be my NT scan appt. not sure what to expect. I graduated from RE at 9 weeks and that was my last US. so it'll be 16 days since my last one. I hope I get some confirmation that baby is ok and it's not just talking and bloodwork.
  • EDD: 2/17/16  (4w6d)

    Appointments: 3rd beta this morning - I hate the waiting. Beta 12 dpiui - 22; 14dpiui - 84.4; 17dpiui 300
I'm told its progressing nicely, but I'm such a nervous nelly. It took so long to get here!!!!!!!!!

Symptoms: Sore boobs that are better/worse on different days. Cramping that comes and goes, although there have been times when it was awful - it felt like AF would come any minute. it terrified me. I have zero cramping today, and of course that terrifies me too!!!!

My IF journey is in my siggy. :sunglasses:

QOTW: I'm not really curious about anything. Just hoping everything is ok. I wish lab results were immediate!!!

But your numbers are rising well! I seem to find more and more people that had a low number on day 12 (post iui). Maybe its more normal than we think?!

  • @Colleen0516 I would think beta testing at 12 dpiui would definitely be more in the range of where y'alls numbers were. I was thinking this when I read your post on the IF board (I silk lurk there to check on girls who I recognized from my time on there), but I'm no doctor and certainly didn't want to give out any false hope! A non-pregnant beta level is 1-5, so feasibly, even if you started at 5 and implanted on day 8, your doubling time would result in a 20 beta.

  • Tulips29  - at my 6 week ultrasound, he was way up in the corner hiding almost. RE said they can move around a lot so it's normal. Plus as they get bigger, I think even our uterus lays differently. Yesterday, he moved all around and was in a bunch of different positions so don't worry about baby being to 1 side right now. Next time, could be totally different sides

  • @Griffin5413 I just want to see a baby, not just a blob. I go back next Friday so hopefully it'll be more baby-looking  I'll be almost 10 weeks by then. Seems so surreal!

We also decided to tell our parents this Sunday as a Father's Day surprise. They have no clue and DH's parents don't know what we've been going through. I know they will be thrilled as it'll be a first grandchild for them, but I'm so so nervous about telling them. Part of me wants to keep this secret until like week 12, but another part of me can't wait to tell them.

So I also asked my nurse about the very mild twinge-like cramps, but not really cramps, that I've been feeling the past week or so and she said as long as they aren't painful or bothering me, it should be fine. I really wanted her to say "oh, don't worry, it's just your uterus expanding" but she didn't. Kind of bothered me, even though maybe it's not it at all. I can't help but pay attention and worry over every little thing I feel. Ugh.

  • @Tulips29 That's frustrating when you don't get the encouragement you need. I have had some mildly painful cramps/twinges over the last few days as well, but I've just tried to ignore them as long as they don't include vomiting or bleeding. It is really hard though!

  • @dragonfaerie totally frustrating. Did you ask your doc about this by chance? Wondering if maybe you'll get a different answer. Mine aren't painful, but I'm conscious of the feeling where I think about it a few times a day now. Then again, I've been eating bagels and other breads and should probably stop. My stomach doesn't handle carbs too well. I also find it hard to explain to the doctor what I'm feeling because I never felt this way before. I don't even know if the nausea I feel is really nausea. It's more like a yucky feeling that lasts most of the day most of the times mixed with nausea. It's also hard to stay away from Dr. Google and look everything up.

  • Had my first obgyn today at 11 weeks, 2 days. Pap smear and they told me I wasn't scheduled for an US today so I begged the midwife if we can at least hear the heart beat. Well she couldn't find it but said that's not unusual. So she said in these cases we will do an US. I got to see baby and he/she was so active and jumping around everywhere. His heartbeat is good. I also asked if she did the Neck test which I thought was for downs syndrome but the US person  said it was for heart defects. huh? what? Now I'm confused if they ever tested for downs today. Anyway, then they took 7 vials of blood and waiting on those blood results now. Once we get those back I think we will start telling our friends. It was literally a 3 hour appt for me. Now I don't go back for a month. sigh.  US pic coming soon!
