Hey everyone! My LO is 4 1/2 months, and I am not ready to start solids yet, but I feel like I should start getting prepared since I plan on (attempting) to make my own baby food. Does anyone know of any good websites or articles out there about starting out solids? I have the basic concepts down, but is there a place with a generalized suggested foods list to start with?
Re: Any Websites/Articles about Starting Solids
Used the above site for DS1 in 2011, and will use it again for DS2!
@BGoperadiva it's essentially where you give the baby pieces of actual food that aren't purées and they feed it to themselves. There can be a lot of gagging involved and of course the risk of choking more so than feeding them a purée but there are also a ton of benefits! There are some really good videos on YouTube that make it seem way less crazy lol
For tough foods like veggies, they say to just steam and then chop them up. One helpful suggestion was to store pre-steamed foods in ice cube trays and then melt them as needed.
You have to watch your LO, but we've only been doing it two weeks now and she has only kind of choked once, and has almost completely stopped gagging. She's already so great at chewing. (PS this is a good sign that your kid is ready for it)
