Horrible Mood Swings/Anxiety

Hi ladies!

I am 4w3d today and have been having HORRIBLE mood swings and anxiety.  To the point where I'll yell at my husband for something stupid for 10 minutes, then start crying, then laughing then yelling again.

Is anyone else going through this?  I'm worried I'm somehow hurting my baby by getting SO worked up.  :(

Re: Horrible Mood Swings/Anxiety

  • Chances are it's just the increased hormones. You won't do your baby any harm, but helping to find a way to relax everyday would be very beneficial. I have also found myself very short with my husband lately.

If you find that the mood swings are getting worse or really worrying you it's never a bad idea to mention it to your Dr.

  • It's hard. I think there's a combination of hormones plus the stress and worry of very early pregnancy going on. Yesterday I had a near meltdown in Shaw's because they were out of cilantro and I didn't want to go to another grocery store, so you're not alone. It won't hurt the baby, but I'd look into ways you might be able to relax for your own sanity. For me, yoga is very helpful. I tend to be a bit Type-A, and the breathing exercises really help me to let go. I often do them in my regular life, outside of class.
  • Yes I've been having really bad mood swings and being super emotional. Yesterday I bawled for no good reason during work. And I definitely have a shorter fuse with my husband. It was the same last pregnancy. I cried so often that my male boss didn't even think anything about it towards the end (I work in a very laid back office to begin with). It's the hormones. I think it does get a little better second trimester, but then I was extra emotional again at the end of the third when I was hot and huge and wanted the baby out!

Thanks ladies!  It makes me feel so much better knowing I'm not alone!  :)
