Low Platelet Count

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with low platelet count during pregnancy. Normal range is 150,000-400,000. When I delivered my first child mine was 97,000. All it meant was I was unable to get an epidural. With this pregnancy it has consistently been in the 120,000 range and I'm having it checked monthly to be sure it isn't dropping. I just left my 16 week check up and they drew my blood again so I'll know the results tomorrow. But until then it's just on my mind so I thought I'd see if anyone else has dealt with this.

I had that during my first pregnancy. It didn't affect me though since I never wanted an epidural. My doctor said it's not a big deal as long as it stays consistent and isn't continuing to drop.

  • I had that with my first pregnancy.  So far everything is fine this pregnancy, but it was also fine at this point with the last one.  I had blood draws once a month when they found it last time.  I didn't want an epidural, but ended up getting one after 24 hours of labor.  I think my platelets were in the 90,000-100,000 range, but I can't remember.  Maybe they were a bit higher.  My mom had the same issue as well with my brother, so I'm assuming it will come up again.
  • I have an appt with a high risk OB next week for a consult because my last draw was 108 so they want me to get checked out to see what's causing them to be low or if it's just the pregnancy. It does make me nervous but I've already got my mind set to deliver naturally again without an epidural so at least I'll be prepared for that this time.
