Nervous about daycare

hello fellow mommas
im just looking for some helpful words of encouragement. I have been fortunate enough to have a nanny who comes to our home and cares for my 8 month old daughter as I and my husband work full time and don't have any family around to help. However, due to the nannys unreliability (calling in sick) and our finances we are thinking to transition to daycare (less expensive).
I always thought I'd wait till she was 12 months for that but it seems it'll happen earlier due to our current situation. My husband is all for it but being an over- attached and OCD mom, I'm so terrified of leaving her in a strange place with complete strangers - not knowing how the day will go ( I have a nanny cam so I can always check in).
I guess I'm looking for other moms experience and encouragement if they had LO at an earlier age at daycare.
I know she'll cry like heck the first couple days and it'll break my heart and I'll feel guilty but I'm sure most kids grow to love it???
any thoughts?
thanks !!

Re: Nervous about daycare

  • The center I worked at had cameras in the room and the parents could log in to our website and actually watch during the day. I don't know how many other centers do this, but you could ask around in your area. Even if they don't have cameras, calling to see how she's doing could help reassure you.
  • LO has been in daycare since 12 weeks. The first couple of days were rough but it definitely gets better. LO now 7 months and absolutely loves it! She gets so much interaction and attention everyday. We use an in home daycare and I get daily texts and pictures. Most places I'm sure would be okay if you called or stopped in the first few days.

    THIS!!

My LO has been at daycare since 6 weeks but he loves it and they love him! I get random texts and pictures and it makes me feel so much better. He gets interaction w/other kids and people and its so nice having someone we love and trust with our lil man. She may love it instantly. Our guy isn't really scared of anyone but takes a bit to warm up to adults but he LOVES all little kids. Best of luck on your search! We went w/in home mostly because of cost but also because of the small intimate environment.  Go with your GUT! If something doesn't feel right or you just don't click w/the provider I say move on.
  • Thank you for the insight! It's encouraging to know that even LO do so well there!
  • My daughter has been in daycare since 12 weeks. I have her in a personal in home daycare because it's much more affordable. She is so happy every time I pick her up and she also loves to be around all of the other kids. I was a little nervous about home daycare at first but we couldn't afford any of the daycare centers. My mom did in home daycare when we were little so I was familiar with it. Just go in and ask all of the questions you have and make sure that they're willing to work with your schedule for your child. Good luck mama
