Pregnancy brain

Anyone else feel like pregnancy brain has already kicked in? I'm already forgetting things and mixing up words. Example: earlier today I told my husband "I think I am going to start eating lunch meat again, I just have to vacuum it first"

Re: Pregnancy brain

  • I read this thread and I was like, this is me all the time!!
And now, as I'm typing this, I cannot remember a single instance.

I'm totally getting it! I'm so forgetful and can't think straight lol

  • We just traded in my car for an Equinox and I cannot remember the name of it 99% of the time. I kept calling it a Terrain yesterday for some reason. Then I would be irrationally mad at DH when he corrected me. I also was convinced it was October the other day.

I read somewhere that pregnancy brain is a myth. Maybe it's morning sickness and exhaustion fogging my brain, but I've definitely been saying some weird things!
  • Ugh, I feel like my brain is in a permanent fog. Yep, pregnancy brain.

  • I went to put the ketchup in the closet today instead of the fridge... it feels real to me

  • I've definitely been mixing up my words and forgetting names of common things. For me, I'll mix up the words in the sentence. Sometimes it'll take me longer to process something.

Oh yeah! I can't remember half of my vocabulary. I spent 5 minutes using desciptive wording since I couldn't remember that a "sun roof" is a thing.
  • Between exhaustion and nausea I was for sure in a fog for the first few weeks. Embarrassing when your job is to talk to people all day. It is starting to get better, don't need a nap every day anymore.

  • When I went to leave town Friday my husband ran out the front door waving something at me...my phone. I was about to drive off on an 8hr trip with no phone! Then of course after going to pick my mom up I realized like 3 things I forgot and we went back to my house lol

  • I was sitting at a red light today on our way to LAX. The GPS had advised me to continue straight. A few minutes pass.... I start to panic because there is a no left turn sign. I told my husband that " I can't turn left here and I don't know what to do"...yes pregnancy brain.

Oh it's real.  Last pregnancy, I spent 4 hours in JoAnns looking at options for table decorations for our gender reveal BBQ at 21 weeks.  It should have taken me 30 minutes.  I remember at one point, I told my husband to just make all the decisions because I basically couldn't anymore.  At the doctors he had to start speaking for me because I couldn't speak without getting all befuddled and mixed up when answering questions, which made me emotional and blubbery.  I could barely read at one point, he had to read questionnaires to me.  My head was just way too fuzzy.

I had HG though, so my baby was basically living off the muscle and fat stored in my body.  I don't think my situation is typical.

  • I had it super mild with my last pregnancy. But this time!? Oh it's so bad! And it's definitely real. At my last baby shower my pregnant sister in law forgot how to work my can opener and cried "I have a doctorate" over and over. I'm always finding things where they don't belong- I was getting so mad at DH who has a tendency to walk off with things and was blaming him. Until he went out of town and it was still happening. All me and pregnancy brain.

H said he's going to start filming me, because I refuse to believe I'm making as little sense as he says I am. Haha!

Im a nurse. Yesterday i told my patient "i got you girl" after she asked for a fresh glass of water. That is NOT something i would normally say to anyone much less a patient in the hospital who is sick. It's weird how foggy/spacey you can be. Why!?? It's real. I'm so much more of a space cadet than i was before.

I've been really forgetful if something isn't my main focus. For example, I got in the car and drove to the gym without my gym bag earlier this week. But I had been talking to my Mom on the phone as I walked out the door, so I didn't think to grab my bag (which was sitting right by the door).

  • We have a big brita water reservoir (is that what it's called?) thing that we fill up with tap water to make filtered water. We have a detachable sink faucet and I usually just put it in the reservoir top and let it run, go do some quick things, come back and turn it off.

The other day my pregnancy brain forgot that I had turned the faucet on...queue water spilling all over the floor because I definitely forgot to turn it off. Whoops!

Hahaha! I couldn't believe that came out.
  • Y'all are cracking me up!

So I poured myself a glass of milk last night (finishing off the gallon) and put the empty gallon back in the fridge.  I never thought about it again until the hubs went to get some today! hahaha!
  • So this is a little scary, but I've definitely noticed coming OUT of a major fog like 3 times in the last week or so. It almost felt like a low blood pressure episode, like I just lost a second or two, or my brain froze for a second.... So weird. I would like for that to stop happening... (My doc wasn't too concerned?? I've always had low blood pressure/ fainting spells so I guess they trust that I know what to do and won't kill myself, but I don't feel it coming on, only lifting)

    scary!
  • @tinabelcher I wouldn't like that either! I know it's normal for blood pressure to lower during pregnancy - right now mine is running 100/70 when I am normally 117/78 - I wonder if having twins lowers it even more?

  • @ceclarlinetlo the really weird thing is that yesterday at my appointment it was SUPER high (for me) I'm usually around 100-110/60 and yesterday it was almost 130/80?! (Which is still perfectly healthy I know but daaaang. My doctor didn't even blink at the numbers and I really trust him so ::shrug::)
  • Mine is typically very low as well and it was high at my last appointment.  They had to retake it.  After I took some deep breathes and relaxed it went down, but it was still higher than normal.  For me, I think it was nerves.
  • Last night I was standing at the sink about to take off my makeup. Except instead of my remover I grabbed my toothpaste and started unscrewing the lid as if I was going to use it for taking off my makeup (They look nothing alike)

Wait, how did you even realize that then? I feel like that would happen to me regularly without tags, pregnancy brain or no pregnancy brain...
  • Omg, I'm sitting at my desk eating lunch reading these and dying!! They're so funny and all so relatable!
  • I've needed new face lotion for weeks because I had been using one with salycilic acid in it.  I finally lugged my 2 DD's to Walmart yesterday and was pretty excited about the lotion I got, until I went to use it this morning and in big lettering it says "facial cleanser."
It's the little things that get me!

I don't want to admit it to my husband but yes. I'm so distracted it's ridiculous.
