GTKY: What book(s) have had a great influence in your life and why?
Re: Weekly Check In 5/27
How far along are you? 34 weeks 2 days. Home stretch (ish)
How are you feeling? Today I'mat about a 7 out of 10. I tend to have more energy first thing in the morning and by the afternoon I am toast. Having some back pain and swelling. Also some pregsomnia.
Any baby news (tests results/scans/upcoming appointments?) Just had my 34 week appt. Yesterday and everything looks great! I am always a little ashamed when I get on the scale, but the doctor isn't worried and all my numbers look good!
Apparently, i have a nasty case of jock itch all over my hoo ha but doc gave me an Rx for an anti fungal and it seems to be clearing up already. Yay!
Next appt is in 2 weeks and we'll get to see the little girl again. I am going to ask for a 3D!
Rants/Raves/Questions:
I am raving about all the generous people I have in my life: friends, family, and coworkers who have all been very generous giving me baby clothes and baby accessories. I feel so fortunate and loved. This little girl is getting a good start I think.
GTKY: What book(s) have had a great influence in your life and why?
Anything in Middle Earth: The Hobbit, LotR, The Silmarillion etc. I've read them all multiple times since I was about 9 or 10. I am a huge fantasy/sci-fi geek and love to adventure. I still love reading epic High Fantasy from Harry Potter to A Song of Ice and Fire to His Dark Materials. Magic, dragons, epic journies are all great paths to escapism for me!
How far along are you? 24w 4d
How are you feeling? Good! Except that I can't seem to sleep all night, ever. But I am watching a lot of fixer upper on Netflix, and that is fun. I also have some weird dry/rough patch on my knee and it actually hurts. Gonna keep an eye on that.
Any baby news (tests results/scans/upcoming appointments?) had a great and easy appointment on Monday. Yay! Appointment with the MFM on 6/7 for one more peek at her heart and a growth check.
Rants/Raves/Questions: I am SO glad school is done. I start summer classes in a little over a week, but that's ok. I'm looking forward to it, oddly enough. And my parents will be here to visit in about 5 weeks. I can't wait! I haven't seen them since October. Way too long.
GTKY: What book(s) have had a great influence in your life and why? Oh man. I am a lifelong reader. This is a tough one. When I was a kid, I was all about Little Hiuse on the Prairie and Nancy Drew. I think those actually fed my sense of adventure that I try to hold on to today. More recent favorites include Gilead by Marilynne Robinson, anything by Toni Morrison, most John Steinbeck novels.... I could probably think of more, but those are the ones that leap to mind. I'm currently reading a book I found in a little free library in our neighborhood. It's called the thirteenth tale and is actually a lot of fun. I just wish I could stay awake to read more. Haha.
at the dr for weekly nst, hubs has a 4 day weekend which is much appreciated after working the last 2 weeks, and then I'm going to get a pedicure! Good day! Only 2 more appointments after today, 11 more days at most being pregnant!
im a huge romantic sucker, I feel like o should say 'oh grapes of wrath or something,' but nope. I read a book a week, it helps with my decades long insomnia and it's a nice escape. I read 'the pact' by Jodi picoult in college and then rushed out and got all her books. I'll read any beach read and sometimes test my horror level with murder mysteries, but then I don't sleep:)
How are you feeling? Slept through the night the past 2 nights which is a huge win! Horrible pregsomnia the week before that
Any baby news (tests results/scans/upcoming appointments?) Awaiting the "dreaded" 28 week appointment where I find out if I will have to do finger sticks or not for GD. But for now no new news on the appointment front/
Rants/Raves/Questions:
Carters is having a huge sale for memorial day if anyone needs baby clothes!!! I got a whole bunch of short snap up rompers that are soooo cute for $5 each. I figure they will be perfect for the hot weather that is september here.
Today we are driving 30min to buy buy baby today to look at gliders and strollers- wish me luck!!
GTKY: What book(s) have had a great influence in your life and why?
I read a whole bunch of "crap" books all of the time because I am a super fast prolific reader, but in my life I swear I have read the book "memoirs of a geisha" a million times for some odd reason. Not sure the influence it has had on me but it is a great book.
I remember reading "The Red Tent" sometime in my 20's and it having a profound impact on the way I started to see the moon cycles and menstrual cycles.
"Birthing from within" is one of my favorite books on the subject of birth and if you are considering a medication free labor and deliver I feel like it is such a positive influence in that arena. It really helped shape the direction of my choices in regards to birth and supporting woman through their own process in pregnancy.
There is this super obscure book that I picked up along the way in my travels called "yoga for people who can't be bothered to do it" This book is all about travel and it resonates so strongly with my inner gypsy spirit! I find it super funny because I am all about yoga (being a yoga teacher and all) but I love how this book reminds me to not take myself too seriously, and the chapter about amsterdam is perfection!!! If you have ever been to amsterdam and smoked while there, this chapter alone is worth buying the book for.
How are you feeling? Insomnia, horrible pelvic/groin pain, hobbit feet
Any baby news? Heading to an appt in 15 minutes. Just a quickie, but I'm looking forward to having my BP and urine checked so I know for sure that my swollen feet aren't a problem. I went to a party last night and they got huge again, so I went home early.
Rant: Hobbit feet. Enough said.
GTKY: What book(s) have had a great influence in your life and why? Oh gosh, all of them. I read so much growing up, I was at a 10th grade reading level when I was in 5th grade. Books are the best.

ps ladies, if you're looking for a good show, bloodline (with my crush 'coach' from Friday night lights), starts up season 2 on Netflix tonight!
How are you feeling? Not to bad. Boobs hurt and they're starting to get weird and tingly. Tired, but that could also be jet lag. Some minor cramping.
Any baby news (tests results/scans/upcoming appointments?). I have a nurse visit on Tuesday. OB appt and US in 4 weeks
Rants/Raves/Questions: still nervous about if this will stick.
GTKY: What book(s) have had a great influence in your life and why? To be honest, I'm not sure if I have an answer to this question. I don't read a ton because I have a short attention span. I can't think of a book off the top of my head.
Me: 37, DH: 36

BFP: 6/22/2016 EDD 3//6/2017
@PattersRN--that wait for the first appointment seems SO long. Glad you have a nurse visit just to break things up!
My BIL and SIL live in Nashville and ran into her and Sheryl Crow at some little bar in a small town nearby that I can't remember the name of. They went and chatted and said both Tammy Taylor and Sheryl were really nice.
How are you feeling? I've been feeling a bit light-headed and spacey lately. Not sure what's going on. Just normal pregnancy hormones?
Any baby news? Got to see baby on ultrasound yesterday. He was face down the whole time, though, so we didn't get to see much of him. But he seemed all happy and content in there. My placenta has moved up and my cervix is all clear, which is great news! I've also been getting the hang of the daily finger pricking. So far my sugar levels are well within range so that's good.
Rant: Air conditioner broke down yesterday. We had to go stay at a friend's house because I couldn't handle the heat. The HVAC guy is supposed to show up this afternoon so I'm at home waiting for him. I can't even think straight. I've basically been glued to the fan for hours. And have given up on clothing. If he doesn't show up, then we're going to have to pack up and go somewhere for the entire weekend.
GTKY: What book(s) have had a great influence in your life and why? I loved reading Judy Blume when I was a kid. I wish I had more time to read these days...

How far along are you? 14w 5d
How are you feeling? I was hoping for a little more energy as I move into the 2rd tri, but no such luck so far. I think having 2 little ones, plus running my own in-home daycare means I will never not be exhausted during this pregnancy.
Any baby news? My appointment was supposed to be yesterday, but it got pushed back to next Thursday. I am a little frustrated, but I'm sure next Thursday will get here quickly. My schedule is pretty packed, so I'd really like to schedule my anatomy scan so I can work on fitting it in.
In good news, I've been feeling tiny pokes :-) I was feeling pretty sure they were baby, but yesterday I sat down with my Doppler, felt a poke, and then used the Doppler right there and was perfectly on the heartbeat :-) The little one loves to wiggle around, but I heard it for a bit before it took off.
Rave: We are going camping this weekend with 2 other families. I'm do excited to get away, and my kids are going to have a blast!
GTKY: What book(s) have had a great influence in your life and why? I love reading, and read a million books in my childhood. I still read as much as possible now My dad was a middle school reading teacher, and I think that period for me has the books I am most attached to. Anything by Madeline L'Engle, Anne of Green Gables, From the Mixed up Files, etc.
BFP 3.8.16 EDD 11.20.16
How are you feeling? I'm feeling pretty good. I've been very tired because of my long weekend/babymoon to NYC. SO much fun but so much walking with very little sitting. Finally really feeling kicks and DH was able to feel a few himself last night!
Any baby news (tests results/scans/upcoming appointments?) Not really. My only appt was getting my eyebrows waxed. I needed it.
Rants/Raves/Questions: Lowe's has flowering and shade trees 50% off this weekend. I bought a cherry blossom and a dogwood. The dogwood will be in honor of my m/c. We never knew the sex of it, and this dogwood had no tag on it, so we don't know if it will be pink or white blooms. I took it as a sign.
GTKY: What book(s) have had a great influence in your life and why? I'm not much of a book reader, although I read Dead Poet's Society before I saw the movie... The book was wonderful and really made me "feel". I didn't know books could take you away like that until I read that book. I also loved The Help. My grandmother had a housekeeper (Beulah) and so much of the storyline resonated with me. I loved my Beulah when I was little.
How far along are you? 26w4d
How are you feeling? I'm feeling pretty good. Just really, REALLY tired. Work is exhausting for me. The ten hour days are too much. I'm going to speak to my OB about it at my next appointment in a couple weeks. I'm not sure what the answer is, but I don't think I can do it for 12 more weeks. Other than that, all my other symptoms are minor. @CarrieandRoy - you should SERIOUSLY consider a chiropractor for your pelvic/groin pain. I'm amazed at how much better mine is. I'm currently sitting on my bed cross-legged!! It's not gone, but I barely notice it anymore. Mine chiropractor also does fascial release and found that I had a lot of scar tissue from my c-section in that area that she was able to help release, but she still finds the bones "out of whack" when I go in and she's able to get them realigned. It's amazing!!
Any baby news (tests results/scans/upcoming appointments?) 28 week appointment in a couple weeks with a growth ultrasound. I can't wait to see how the babes have grown. They were 91st and 71st percentile last time, which freaked me out, thinking I was going to have two 9 pounders in there or something. I think their growth may have slowed a little bit. My fundal height measurement only went up by 2cm in 4 weeks and I lost a couple pounds, so I think maybe they've slowed? Who knows though.
Rave: My co-workers are seriously amazing. I sent out an email just asking people if they'd mind if I left at 3:30 on days we're fully staffed and it's not too busy. They were all really supportive. Today I sent out a text to the NPs replacing me this weekend and just asked if anyone would be willing to come in early so I could leave and heard back right away from people willing to help me out. They have been so supportive of me through this whole process - when I had to come in late for ultrasounds and RE appointments and now when I have to leave early because I'm so darn tired. It truly has taken a village to make and gestate these babies. I'm so lucky.
GTKY: What book(s) have had a great influence in your life and why? Gosh, I can't even pick just one or two. Since I can remember, I've loved to read. It's been a huge part of my life. I think my love of reading in general has had a great influence on my life. It's given me grammar, writing skills, SPELLING skills (so many people can't spell or use correct grammar - eek!), imagination, and the ability to travel to other worlds and places in my mind. Reading is such a gift and one I hope my kids love as much as I do. It seems like a lot of us love to read. Maybe we should start a book thread to give each other ideas of good books/authors we've read.

How are you feeling? Great today, other than it being hot and my thighs rubbing and chafing under my skirt...
Any baby news (tests results/scans/upcoming appointments?) DP and I had a night away at an inn in a the mad river valley on Thurs and then went for a 4-mile trail hike through national forest along a brook. At about the halfway point on the trail I realized that I had soaked through my underwear and crotch of my pants (and knew it wasn't urine since I had stopped multiple times to squat). I was a bit worried, so we turned around, got back to the car and I called the midwife as soon as we were in cell service. She told us to get up to the birthing center (about 45 min. away) to get checked right away b/c if it was amniotic fluid obviously we had to deal with it ASAP. Needless to say, it was a very tense drive over a mountain gap to the birthing center w/DP driving like a bat out of hell. Got there and they did an exam and found very watery cervical mucus. They checked the fluid in the lab to make sure it wasn't amniotic fluid and thankfully, they determined it was not. I felt like a bit of a schmuck for going in, but the midwife said she was glad I did and with the super watery quality of the cervical fluid that it was no wonder I was soaked through and concerned. So, a little baby-related drama yesterday, but otherwise just waiting for my 28 week appt. in a little over a week when I get to do the dreaded GD test.
Rants/Raves/Questions: I went to the birthing center stressed and fearing for my baby's safety and left with all the warm fuzzies. A couple of the nurses that were there when I delivered my son three years ago were there, remembered me and reminisced with me. The staff is just so incredibly warm, thoughtful and reassuring that it reinforces for me that it is absolutely the right place for us to have this baby. I really hope I make it to at least 35 weeks (and obviously a lot further) because that's the earliest that they will deliver at the center.
GTKY: What book(s) have had a great influence in your life and why? I have also been a life long prolific reader. There are so many books along the way that have made an impact or just been the right book at the right time. A few I can think of off hand are The Color Purple, The Red Tent, A Staggering Work of Heartbreaking Genius and pretty much all the Jane Austen. I think I got into reading as a kid because of the escapism of it and as an adult it feeds my need for introversion. I wish I had more time to read now, but with work and a family, I usually only get the 15-20 minutes before my head hits the pillow at night.

I just got back from a little camping babymoon. It was fun to getaway and be in nature, but I'm happy to be back home where I have a shower and bathroom
How far along are you? 22 weeks 5 days
How are you feeling? I feel pretty good. I've had some acid reflux/heartburn recently and finally started taking a couple of Tums for relief which helps.
Any baby news (tests results/scans/upcoming appointments?) No appointments this week. We are going to start changing the guest room to the baby's room this week.
Rants/Raves/Questions: Only 6 more days of the school year! My patience has been wearing thin lately. Friday I was able to have fun just playing with the children and it felt great. A teacher I observed during grad school gave me the advice that when things feel hard to just enjoy being with the children.
GTKY: What book(s) have had a great influence in your life and why? I loved "The Death & Life of Great American Cities" by Jane Jacobs. I read it in undergrad as part of my urban studies major. I decided a while back to borrow rather than keep and collect books, but this is one of a few that survived the purge.
i have an appointment coming up on Tuesday for a repeat HCG and progestone as well as my first u/s to check and see if it etopic. Super nervous.
i am super tired and with school coming to a close I am really nervous for the beginning of the summer vacation.
For books... I don't remember the name, but I remember the story. I had picked up the book when I was traveling for business and it had a girl
in a red jacket on the cover. It was about a woman who learns about her past
and what happened to her family during WWII.
